The Netherlands - Over 100 Robe moving lights including 40 x of the new DL7S Profile 'full spectrum' LED luminaires joined the craziness and mayhem of the latest series of Professor Nicolai & Dr. Beckand, a popular mad science based TV quiz show recorded in Aalsmeer studios in the Netherlands and broadcast on prime-time Dutch national channel, RTL4.

The show was lit by Martin Beekhuizen of lighting and visual design practice Light-H-Art, with lighting equipment supplied by Eventec, a company based at the studios and a technical service provider for the majority of programmes created there. With over 100 Robe fixtures in Eventec's regular rental stock, shows will often feature the brand's moving lights.

UK - Rebound, the new £1m trampoline park in Hull, has been opened by Monkey Bizness, specialists in indoor play centres.

The first in the city, it contains up to 75 trampolines, tumble tracks, foam pits, cafeteria - and a Martin Audio sound system to cover all activities.

Part of a complete integrated audio-visual and lighting package, it was provided and installed by Kent-based Old Barn Audio, who were awarded the contract after carrying out work in previous venues for director, Nick Stevenson.

The brief from the client was clear: that the sound system needed to be as if specified for a nightclub, and should not be bettered by anything else in the area. Therefore OBA had no hesitation in recommending Martin Audio's new patented CDD Coaxial Differential Dispersion installation range.

UK - DJs is a newly opened 350 capacity pub / club venue in Ilfracombe Devon, which has just received a major technical upgrade designed and installed by S+H Technical Services, which is based nearby.

S+H MD Terry Murtha was approached by DJ's new management to help create a visual scheme to make the space a vibrant nightspot. The premises had been empty for a year and before then had been a sports bar.

"It's a great brief to have almost a blank canvas and be asked to produce something original and imaginative," comments Murtha, who decided on a fresh visual approach based around using LED screen and video content as the main lightsource.

Spain - A.leda B-EYE K 10 equipment took part in the independent music festival held in Barcelona from 1-5 June, to brighten the Beach Club shows, Primavera Sound's new setting. ARA SO was responsible for lighting the llatest Primavera Sound edition.

The event featured 18 hours of non-stop music from Jessy Lanza, Helena Hauff, Floating Points, Powell, Mano Le Tough, Leon Vynehall and DJ Richard.

Ten of Clay Paky's A.leda B-Eye K10 delighted the audience with a real show of light and colour, thanks to its wash effect and light beam.

This music festival has been staged annually for 15 years and is now established on the international festival calendar.

UK - Former InfoComm president and founder-director of Paradigm AV, Greg Jeffreys has announced the next chapter in his career, with the formation of a new company, Visual Displays Ltd (VDL). Based near the former company's Bedford HQ it will have "a completely new structure designed to introduce more efficiencies to the business via a faster-to-market policy".

Greg states that while VDL's mission of offering best practice to a wide client base of audio visual professionals and their clients will remain the same, the company will offer a more direct approach with regard to sales, specialist consultancy and installation architecture.

Europe - The 2016 European tours of Santana and Grimes are using ImageCue in their designs.

Michael Ledesma, LD for Santana, is using ImageCue with LED panels in a "V" configuration on either side of the stage. The video director controls the central imag screen, but Ledesma controls the "V" visuals from the lighting console allowing him greater coordination between the lighting and video effects.

Lighting and video designer, Michelle Sarrat, is using ImageCue this summer on the Grimes tour with a background video wall. The tour is hitting many of the festivals throughout Europe.

Michelle says "I've been very satisfied with the ImageCue so far - it's been very helpful on all these festivals." ImageCue LLC is based in Running Springs, California with a European office in Dietlikon, Switzerland.

Poland - The Polish city of Wroclaw is the 2016 European Capital of Culture, a status which it has celebrated with numerous events. These included the Flow Quartet, which comprised four large scale performances based around the city's River Odra. These reached a climax in mid-June, with Yamaha and Nexo equipment working seamlessly together to deliver the audio for a remarkable production.

The highlight of the celebrations was The Flow II, which took place around the River Odra during the evening of 11June. Featuring 300 performers from several orchestras and musical academies based in Poland, Germany, Israel and the Czech Republic, an audience of over 100,000 enjoyed the specially-commissioned work of five composers with a spectacular son et lumiere.

UK - Creative technical production expert Hawthorn will make the trip north of the border once again as it prepares to support The Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the 27th time.

The largest arts festival in the world, Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2016 will feature over 3,000 shows across more than 300 venues over the course of three weeks. Running from 5-29 August, Hawthorn will this year provide equipment to Assembly Festival, Paradise Green and New Town Theatre. They will also be supplying equipment to a number of productions across the festival, including The Lady Boys of Bangkok, which they've supported on the current UK tour and will be located in Edinburgh for the duration of the Fringe.

UK - Peavey Commercial Audio, a division of Peavey Electronics, is to reintroduce UK-held stock to serve its expanding EMEA footprint.

The Mississippi-based company, one of the largest commercial audio manufacturers in the world, reorganised its logistics in 2015, with its UK warehouse closing in preference for a more centralised operation from the US and China.

However, with recent new distributor agreements expanding Peavey's presence across Europe, the company is bringing back a UK-based stock holding of their Crest Audio and Peavey Professional lines, with availability expected mid-July.

UK - The University of South Wales (USW) and the Lighting Industry Association (LIA) have agreed a formal partnership, cementing a relationship which will see the development of a range of specialist lighting courses.

Steve Davies, LIA CEO, said: "We are delighted to have signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of South Wales. Our partnership is part of a drive by the LIA Academy to improve and co-ordinate training and development opportunities for lighting professionals throughout the UK."

UK - Following a highly competitive tender process, VisitBlackpool has appointed Richmond Event Management (REM) to undertake the event and site management for the Blackpool Illumination Switch-On Festival Weekend, 2-4 September, 2016. The three-day festival weekend will take place on The Blackpool Tower Festival Headland.

Last year's Switch-On Festival attracted around 30,000 people to the arena across four events, including two music concerts, a comedy roadshow and a live CBBC broadcast, as well as Hollywood film director Tim Burton turning on the famous Illuminations display.

Details of this year's line-up are beginning to be announced, with special guest performers and the switch on star set to be unveiled in the coming weeks, while global TV channel Nickelodeon have already signed up to deliver a host entertainment across the resort during the weekend.
