USA - When American Idiot hit the Broadway stage in 2010, theatregoers were treated to more than just the punk-rock sounds of Green Day's rock opera; they experienced the visual impact that lighting can bring to storytelling. When Pace University staged American Idiot in 2016, lighting designer Zach Blane took an approach with his lighting rig that - like punk rock - broke the rules.

As Blane's design required getting a wide range of colours from his rig, his choice of units was critical. "I selected an assortment of ETC [Source Four LED] Lustr [Series] 1s and Lustr [Series] 2s, because I definitely needed endless colour options, plus it is a rock show, so I knew there was going to be a lot of haze, meaning I needed something that would look great in the air and great on the floor. Also, the director [Leslie McDonel] wanted the entire rig to be able to strobe. Th

USA - Some buildings seem destined to become obsolete before their concrete has even dried. Such was the case with the Austin Downtown Post Office, an ungainly grey and white structure built in 1996 and closed only two decades later. Derided by a local scribe as an "urban disaster", the luckless building on Block 51 never delivered much mail, but for three nights earlier this year, it did deliver a lot of eye-popping visual excitement, thanks in part to a collection of ÉPIX Strip 2.0 RGB linear fixtures from Chauvet Professional.

Bryan Azar of ILIOS Lighting Design used 300 ÉPIX Strip 2.0 units with domes to create a stunning impression inside the abandoned building for Samsung Galaxy Life Fest during SXSW 2016. Most of the 1m strips were mounted on the ceiling to form a chevron pattern over the dance floor. The remaining strips were used to created lines and bor

Stayin' Alive - Coldplay gave Glastonbury's grand finale with a little help from the Bee Gees. Barry Gibb joined the band for two Bee Gee covers - To Love Somebody and what Chris Martin called "the greatest song of all time", Stayin' Alive. Gibb was meant to play Glastonbury's "legend" slot this year, but pulled out when a family member fell ill. The Bee Gee tribute came towards the end of a set that defied the pouring rain. "This is our favourite place in the world!" declared Chris Martin.

Judgement Day - Led Zeppelin did not copy the opening chords of Stairway to Heaven from the US band Spirit, a US jury has found. USA - From a bible study group started in 1936, Old North Church Canfield, OH has grown to over 1,300 members and atendees. The church's modern new building includes a 1,000-seat sanctuary, a library, classrooms, and a family life centre (gymnasium).

Executive pastor Chris Drombetta says the church's worship gatherings prioritize Biblical preaching and teaching, supported by music, and a blend of traditional and modern expressions of the gospel. Many of these expressions utilize new dynamic technologies, such as the recently installed loudspeaker system.

Drombetta emphasized, "The message must be crystal clear." Yet, the church sanctuary has multiple reflecting surfaces and the church's original loudspeaker system was forty feet in the air. Thus, despite the addition of front-fill and delayed loudspeakers above the balcony, it was difficult to hear and understand the spoke

USA - For the first 36 years of its existence, the Wichita Riverfest was held in May. Then in 2011, after rain put a damper on successive festivals, the event's organizers figured that moving it to June might change their luck. How right they were. Attendance has risen steadily since the rescheduling, ultimately breaking a record this year when a crowd of 450,000 visitors turned out for the nine-day celebration -- not a bad draw, considering that Wichita's population is 390,000.

A key attraction at the festival was the main concert stage, which featured 29 different bands performing under the light of an Erich Meitzner-designed rig that featured a collection of Rogue fixtures from Chauvet Professional, supplied by Parr Sound and Lighting of Great Bend, KS.

Meitzner positioned four Rogue R2 Beams on mid stage truss and four additional units on upstage truss. He also flew ei
