The Opening and Closing Ceremonies are the first and last opportunity for the organisers to show off their venues and set the stage for the Games themselves, providing the ideal opportunity for the host country to showcase its culture, history and civilization.

The centrepiece of both the shows featured a huge helium balloon, believed to be the largest of its kind, rising from the centre of the stadium, the underbelly of which provided a 360-degree projection surface. With Elle Macpherson as its new host and executive producer, the show's production design was ramped up, too, and for the first time this year's final was broadcast live, in a 90-minute HD spectacular from BBC TV Centre's Studio 8 on 4 October.

Secret Cinema events operate by providing a creative, immersive experience for its audiences in which to view the film, recreating settings and characters reminiscent of the films such as Blade Runner's China Town and Lawrence of Arabia's souks and deserts.

3D processing will be shown throughout the Exhibition on the TV One Stand with dynamic demonstrations of CORIO products being fed live video from two standard 2D 1080p cameras sources. These two inputs will be processed within the TV One unit to produce a single 3D image of live video which will be output to a 3D monitor.

Curious passers-by were treated to a visual installation, entitled Get Your Energy Back, which used the latest 3D projection mapping techniques to dramatise the technology contained within the new Toyota Auris Hybrid car. The resulting film of the occasion has proved a massive hit on social sites.
