Europe - Absen Europe has announced the appointment of industry experts Liam Winter as product director and Michael Scott as technical and project manager.
Winter joined Absen Europe in July from PSCo, Absen’s UK distribution partner. With more than 15 years of experience in the AV industry in a variety of senior sales, business management and product management roles, he has a wealth of knowledge to draw on.
Based in the UK but with frequent travel to Europe and Absen’s headquarters in China, Winter’s brief is to manage the customer experience end to end for Absen’s European client base.

Germany - Video designer Ben Miles has praised the Avolites Ai R6 media servers in their performance for festival opener Coldplay at the star-studded Global Citizen Festival in Hamburg, Germany, ahead of the annual G20 Summit.
The Festival calls on governments and the private sector to increase support and funding of issues associated with extreme poverty. This year was the first time the event had been held in Europe - and featured performances by world-renowned superstars including Pharrell Williams, Shakira, Ellie Goulding, German superstars Herbert Gronemeyer and Andreas Bourani - all opened by multi-million selling British band Coldplay.

UK - The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is going international, with technical equipment hire company Hawthorn supplying lighting equipment for the award-winning production.
The international leg of the Curious tour will visit Amsterdam, Toronto and other international cities to be announced.
Hawthorn is continuing its relationship with production after supplying lighting for this year’s UK tour and has worked with renowned lighting designer Paule Constable to supply the lighting equipment for her Olivier award winning design. This included supplying industry workhorses such as the Martin MAC TW1 and the ETC Source 4 Revolution combined with newer technology such as the ETC LUSTR 2 LED Profile and the VL3500Q Spot.

Sweden - The Polar Music Prize is recognised as one of music’s most prestigious international honours and this year’s ceremony saw Hippotizer Media Servers playing a key part in Sundin Designers Sweden’s lighting and image display for the show.
Founded in 1989 by the late Stig ‘Stikkan’ Anderson – Anderson was the publisher, lyricist and manager of ABBA and the name stems from his legendary record label – the Polar Music Prize customarily goes to one contemporary musician and one classical musician. This year saw Sting and Wayne Shorter, the American jazz saxophonist and composer, become laureates and the venue was again the beautiful Stockholm Concert Hall.

UK - CPL (Central Presentations) working for creative event producers Bright, took its experience and knowledge of festival productions and delivered full technical production - sound, lighting, rigging and some AV - for the 2017 OVO festival.
The event, now in its third year and a big hit with OVO’s staff, families and friends, was again staged at Mojo Active, Almondsbury near Bristol. CPL and Bright are regular collaborators and there is a great synergy between the two companies in their respective roles and end-goal of ensuring that event environments are smooth, entertaining, memorable and fun for all guests.

Belgium - British lighting console and media server manufacturer, Avolites, has appointed Fairlight as the exclusive distributor of its lighting and video network control products in Belgium. The exclusive partnership, which took effect on 1 July, follows nearly two decades of successful collaboration between the two companies.

UK - PRG XL Video, the UK operation of Production Resource Group (PRG), has announced the addition of Luke Stevenson to its Corporate and Events team.
Reporting to director of corporate, Steve Greetham, Luke joins the team as senior account manager, bringing a wealth of experience from his time with AVC Live.
During his 11 years with AVC Live, Luke undertook several roles including venue manager; sales and operations manager; and most recently four years as technical producer, where he applied his extensive experience of delivering events on-site.
At PRG XL Video, Luke will focus on the end to end production of 360˚ events, and working with both agencies and in-house event teams.

UK - Opera North has called on the video division of A.C. Entertainment Technologies (AC-ET) to complete phase two of their upgrade, by supplying control and transmission equipment to work alongside the existing front-end display system in the Howard Assembly Room, Leeds.
Back in 2014, Opera North approached AC-ET to supply the first part of the system upgrade - front end display. A Christie WU14K-M Series projector was selected because of its high performance, high efficiency and flexibility. At the same time, an Audipak Silencer Housing was also installed to minimise the ambient noise levels of the projector within the auditorium.

Russia - This month, some of Russia’s best eSports gamers descended upon Cyberspace, a new event venue located at Moscow Riviera shopping centre to play League of Legends RT CyberCup. There are lots more tournaments, competitions and events planned in the pipeline over the upcoming months.

UK - Twisted Audio, the Peterborough-based events production company, recently utilised nearly 18sq.m of IP65 rated ProLights AlphaPIX6T 6.6mm pitch LED video wall for the Lovebullets house and disco parties stage, which this year was re-located to the Glade area at Glastonbury Festival.
Owner Barry Williams, who has been supplying to the UK dance scene for over two decades, purchased the system from the specialist video sales division of A.C. Entertainment Technologies Ltd, the UK distributor for ProLights AlphaPIX.

UK - Two Avolites Ai R6 media servers and an Arena lighting console running the latest Ai and Titan software were chosen to control the high-energy light and video package for the design relaunch of Glastonbury's dance stage, The Temple.
The British media server and lighting controls manufacturer was called in for the third year running by Alan King of Rockin Horse - technical coordinator and production supplier for Block 9 and The Common - who designed and sourced lighting and lasers for The Temple, whilst also keeping an overview on video production.

Europe - Panasonic has launched a new range of indoor display panels engineered for digital signage.
The Full HD SF2 range replaces the LF8 indoor signage series and features new data cloning software, accessed via LAN, which allows for the copying of menu settings and adjusted values from the original display to multiple others.
The E-LED LCD display is available in four sizes (43, 49, 55 and 65-inch), the adaptable screen features wide-view IPS panel technology with 450 cd/m2.

UK - Holo-Gauze has been instrumental in helping Realtime Environmental Systems (RES) and creative director Liam Tomaszewski to realise superstar DJ Eric Prydz’s holographically-enhanced performance for his EPIC 5.0 show, debuting at London’s Victoria Park in front of an audience of 15,000 in late May.
Projected onto a huge, highly transparent and reflective 20m x 9m Holo-Gauze screen, mind-bending animations – including a giant astronaut – created the “biggest hologram in the world”, according to Prydz. Four Panasonic RZ31K 30,000 lumen laser projectors were merged together, beaming a single image of creative director and VJ Liam Tomaszewski’s optical illusions onto the Holo-Gauze screen, which was positioned in front of Prydz.

Europe - When a band like Kiss takes to the road on a European tour, they demand an aesthetic extravaganza which delivers the ‘wow factor’ on an epic scale. Annalisa Terranova joins as senior training manager and will provide training at Green Hippo’s London HQ, as well as taking sessions, including ‘HippoSchool’ Hippotizer training meets, across the rest of the world.
Annalisa comes equipped to deliver immediately effective Green Hippo sessions, bringing extensive experience of the media server technology, including projection-mapping projects.
