UAE - Event design and technical production specialist Maestra has launched a new scenic department in Dubai. It will operate from a dedicated facility close to their HQ in Investment Park.
Maestra has been providing its clients with creative scenic services for the past few years in both London and Dubai, so this consolidates the business model, and brings a key division of the contractor services portfolio in-house.
Already delivering lighting, audio, video, rigging as well as scenic elements including the fabrication of set and staging, it was a “totally logical step” confirmed Maestra Dubai’s managing director Tom Clements.

Germany - Phil Myers has joined German IP video, audio and control specialist Lawo as senior director of IP Systems. In this newly created role, Myers will coordinate the IP product portfolio and core technology development across the Lawo business as well as supporting the Advisory Board with strategic and technology direction during this fast-changing transitional period in the broadcast industry.

Germany - Pro audio specialist DirectOut Technologies has announced a new hardware version of its popular EXBOX.BLDS automatic redundancy switch.
As a result of requests from FOH engineers all over the world, the hardware - which has proved to be a life-safer for big playout systems in live environments - will ship with a modular MADI interface in order to cover all applications and formats in multichannel MADI systems.
CTO Stephan Flock explains the reason for a new hardware revision five years after its launch: “EXBOX.BLDS has always been a special product for DirectOut, since it is one of our typical problem-solving solutions. Very many live systems and broadcast environments worldwide rely on our fail-over hardware to ensure proper signal transmission in redundant recording setups or playout rigs.”

USA/Europe - Nine-piece tribute band Brit Floyd has recently switched to DPA d:facto vocal microphones.
Brit Floyd’s tenor saxophonist Ryan Saranich had already switched to a d:vote CORE 4099 Instrument Microphone and was delighted with the results he was getting, so he approached DPA’s business development manager Vincent Gabriel Antonini and asked him for vocal mic recommendations. After a meeting with Antonini in Philadelphia where the band tried out the d:facto during a soundcheck, Brit Floyd sound engineers Gareth Darlington and Andrea Pellegrini were so impressed that they recommended them for the entire vocal line up.

USA - Electropop artist Halsey has been busy with her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom world tour, following the release of her second studio album of the same name. FOH engineer Simon Thomas (Ariana Grande, Sam Smith, Tracey Chapman) has chosen an SSL L200 console for FOH duties, supplied by Eighth Day Sound.
Having previously used the SSL L500 on a Sam Smith tour, Thomas was familiar with the SSL Live consoles already. The L200 is SSL's mid-scale Live console, with the same accelerated workflow, feature set, and sound quality, in a more affordable package. It has up to 144 fully processed paths and three independent fader tiles side-by-side. "The L200 is a great ergonomic console," says Thomas. USA - Meyer Sound Laboratories co-founder John Meyer will deliver the AES New York 2018 Convention’s Heyser Memorial Lecture on 19 October (Friday) at 6:30pm. Speaking on the topic Taking the Room Out of the Loudspeaker: New Tools for Transparent Reproduction, Meyer will share his expertise on loudspeaker design and applications from his lengthy career the industry.
Meyer first got involved in pro audio in the late 1960s when he started out as designer of custom amplification systems for guitarist Steve Miller. Meyer created the Glyph very large horn loudspeakers and he was the in-house loudspeaker designer at San Francisco’s McCune Sound Service.
In the 1970s, his audio research at the Institute for Advanced Musical Studies in Switzerland led to his first patent awarded for a low-distortion horn design. In 1979 he co-founded (with his wife, Helen) Meyer So

Brand new out of the box at InfoComm 2018, PB-32 provides the connection between Crest Audio’s flagship Tactus digital mixing system and the new powered Versarray Pro line array system, both of which will also be featured at PLASA.
The PB-32 enables the audio signal to remain in the digital domain from the desk right through to the Dante-enabled Versarray Pro PA system. Company representatives and distributors gathered in the Felix Pakhuis in Antwerp, with over 100 people from 42 countries worldwide in attendance.
On day one, main topics were future marketing and product plans. Visitors also received a preview of several Apart products yet to be released. A dinner and casino night followed and highlight of the evening was the Apart awards ceremony.

USA - Lectrosonics has announced the release of the RPS4, a high-reliability universal DC power supply with redundant internal supply modules. The unit is designed as a 12V DC source for low-voltage devices such as wireless microphone receivers, IEM transmitters, IFB transmitters, and audio signal processing equipment.
