USA - Yamaha is launching new products for the installed and live audio industries at InfoComm 2019.
The new PC Series D and DI models are a new kind of power amplifier, featuring state-of-the-art signal processing, Dante audio networking and a 20 x 8 input matrix. The matrix means that sound from analogue or Dante inputs can be output via Dante to another amplifier, after adjusting using the onboard processors, greatly enhancing the flexibility and scalability of the system.
There is a choice of standard (D) or installation (DI) version, both available with a power output of 600W or 1200W (8Ω) and delivering stable operation at a high load of 2Ω. The DI models can handle high-impedance connections, allowing them to drive multiple speakers from a single channel.

Young French lighting designer Victorien Cayzeele is an integral part of the creative team bringing the Phoenix touring show to life, a task he is doing spectacularly with the help of around 150 Robe moving lights which are at the core of an innovative and emotive visual experience.
Victorien has worked with the artist for six years, each tour seeing the shows getting bigger and bigger as Soprano’s influence and popularity grows. The 2019 touring schedule is action packed with a mix of own shows - including five stadiums in September - and festival headline slots as well as over 40 arena gigs.

UK - The Institute of Acoustics (IOA) has installed Shure Microflex Advance MXA910 microphone to complement a Voice Lift system at the organisation’s Milton Keynes headquarters.
This has helped to restore the natural speech level for far-end participants within a space used as both a meeting room and a classroom for attendees participating in courses involving working within acoustics.
Students undertaking courses now benefit from clear speech across the space, while those collaborating online via distance learning are delivered the same audio as their classroom counterparts, with the system raising the quality of the captured content.
The client brief consisted of a system that was hands free and could be permanently installed in a room with the ability to be divided as necessary and with multiple furniture layouts.

UK - Room 2, Glasgow’s new events space, is embracing the city’s rich and diverse creative culture with a forward-thinking approach to sound. The basement venue, which is located in the heart of Scotland’s largest city, is home to a Funktion-One sound system.

USA - Orlando-based Professional Wireless Systems has announced that the PRZM RF over fibre (RFoF) conversion system and Alpha Quad-4 and Alpha Quad-8 units will make their InfoComm debut in Orlando this week.

Integrators can now freely design multiple user interfaces for systems built on the dLive engine, tailored to different user levels and/or device types. USA - Brompton Technology reports that LED screen manufacturer digiLED will feature its Tessera SX40 LED processor and XD 10G data distribution unit on its booth at this year’s InfoComm.
As well as displaying the SX40 and XD units on a dedicated plinth, an SX40 will also be running digiLED’s new digiTHIN HD screen. This 1.5mm pixel pitch LED screen offers a true 16:9 ratio, native HD resolutions and is designed as the replacement for fixed installations that would traditionally be serviced by high end projection screens. Belgium - The installation arm of TiMax Benelux distributors, FACE Projects, has designed and implemented an advanced TiMax immersive audio research resource for the new Auralisation Sound Lab at Alamire Foundation’s newly created Library of Voices.
As an international study centre, the Alamire Foundation has set itself the goal of stimulating, coordinating and conducting scientific and practical research on music and musical life in the Low Countries from the early Middle Ages until 1800. The Library of Voices complements the House of Polyphony already in existence.

UK - The Association of British Theatre Technicians’ Annual Theatre Awards took place after the first day of the 2019 ABTT Theatre Show at Alexandra Palace, London.
The five awards for lighting, sound and engineering products of the year, widget and stand of the year, were complemented by the announcement of the ABTT’s technician of the year for 2019.
The lighting product of the year went to the Robe T1 Profile. The judges said: “This is a new moving light that has clearly had a great deal of thought put into its development. Robe’s new T1 fixture delivers an immensely useable theatre lantern. It is light weight, quiet and extremely well featured. UK/USA - Following the successful release of the major V4.8 update at the beginning of 2019, SSL has now followed up with the latest Live V4.9 console and SOLSA software.

Europe - Yamaha has announced an upcoming upgrade to its iActive Field Control (AFC) acoustic enhancement system.
AFC4, the fourth-generation system, features upgrades in DSP processing and hardware. Yamaha says that when combined with optimally placed microphones and loudspeakers, AFC4 operators can enhance or create any acoustic environment, even in an outdoor or roofless venue.

Belgium - The Cathedral of St Michael and St Gudula is one of the oldest and most beautiful cathedrals in Belgium.
It originated as a chapel to honour St. Michael and was built on the Treurenberg hill in the ninth century. In the 11th century, it was replaced by a Romanesque church and in the 13th century, they added two round towers to the church.
In total it took about 300 years to complete the entire church and it was finished in 1519 just before the reign of the emperor Charles V. Since 1962, the church is given the status of cathedral. The towers are each 64m high and the Cathedral is built of stone from the Gobertange quarry, which is located 45km southeast of the city.
Because of the versatile character of the church there was a need for a complete, new audio system that can be used during these different types of events.

Cambodia - In Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, the Hard Rock Cafe has opened a two-floor venue in the city’s newly opened Exchange Square building. The Cafe has a capacity of 370 people, including a 75-seat outdoor terrace, a VIP room and a Hard Rock gift shop.
