This allows Community engineers to accurately measure complex loudspeaker data and to gather polar data in precise 1-degree resolution. Measurements are automated with an ELF robotic rotator system controlled by EASERA software.

The new test facility follows in the footsteps of a long tradition of loud

USA - At this year's South By Southwest Music Festival held in Austin, TX, Allen & Heath digital consoles were used to stream the experience live to millions of fans around the world. One of the world's largest music conferences with 100+ music venues, Allen & Heath mixers managed the Festival's British Music Embassy, sponsored by the UK Trade and Investment Corporation, where over 40 UK bands played sets over a five-day run, and BBC Radio streamed live to the UK for the first time, and the Dell Computer Fader Fort.

"We had these two official venues using Allen & Heath consoles plus a dozen more unofficial South By Southwest venues using a variety of Allen & Heath mixers," states Michael Palmer VP of North American sales for Allen & Heath.

For the British Embassy series there was the challenge of lack of sound checks, plus the need to send the audio signal to the BBC

Germany - - With the launch of the new X Series at ProLight + Sound 2014, Powersoft plans to change the landscape of the professional amplifier market once more.

Much more than a simple amplifier, the new series provides unmatched levels of versatility, flexibility and power without compromising on size, efficiency, audio quality and sheer elegance that has become Powersoft's modus operandi, says the company.

The Powersoft X Series mark a real evolution in pro-audio amplification, much as the seminal K Series did back in 1995 when technologies such as Power Factor Correction (PFC) and switch-mode amplification were introduced for the first time into the professional audio industry.

The Powersoft X Series represents the next step in the evolution of the power amplifier: the first amplifier that in reality is a system tool that integrates a large amount of functionality, gener

USA - Joseph Electronics has announced its Digital Fibre Transport (DFT) Series of signal transport solutions. Designed for low cost and minimal rack space, these solutions can be customized to accommodate a variety of production requirements, especially for electronic newsgathering, small stadiums, and anywhere else that simple point-to-point solutions are required.

"In response to customer feedback, it became obvious to us that we needed to provide a solution that could be easily reconfigured, occupy only a single RU, have built-in redundancies, and not break the budget," said Carl Roszczybiuk, director of engineering at Joseph Electronics. "With the DFT Series, we have combined some of the best fiber transport components available on the market with our integration and packaging strengths to come up with a solution that, we believe, sets the mark for economical

UK - Liverpool based Adlib designed and supplied lighting and sound equipment plus technicians for multi award-winning comedian Jack Whitehall's massively successful in-the-round UK arena tour.

Neil McDonald was production manager and Johnny Dodkin stage manager, working with Adlib's Sam Proctor who specified a Coda PA system and was joined on the road by systems tech George Puttock and PA techs James Petch, Richard Cook and Michael Madsen.

Coda Audio was chosen as the "Most suitable" option for two primary reasons - its light weight meant more boxes could be flown in the centre of the rooms, and the proprietary HF planar wave drivers ensured they could get clarity and detail into every corner of the room.

The venues all varied slightly, but the average set-up featured eight hangs of Coda, each comprising 12 x LA12s and four ViRAY downs per array, all flown on thei

Korea - Solid State Logic reports that HanSeo, SSL's long-established console distributor in South Korea, has been appointed as its Live console partner for the territory.

"The Korean marketplace has high expectations for the new Live console from SSL, both in terms of sound quality and reliability, and particularly from the house of worship market which is very strong in Korea," says Je-Ho Shin, president of HanSeo. "The response to the console we exhibited at KOSOUND was very positive, and several engineers visited us there to specifically see the console. I think there is a very bright future for SSL and HanSeo in the Korean live market."

UK - A.C. Entertainment Technologies (AC-ET) Ltd's Audio division has supplied a versatile RCF HDL line array sound system to cater for the diverse programme of events at Cumbria's popular theatre and arts venue, The Forum.

The 500-seater Barrow-in-Furness venue, which is owned and run by the local Borough Council, plays host to everything from stand-up comedy to rock 'n' roll to musicals. The Forum's technical officer, Lee Winter, reported an increase in problems with the venue's 30-year-old FOH point source system, and recognised the need to upgrade to a modern speaker system that could "handle it all".

"The problems were notably with the amps, the degradation of the speaker woofers, and the restricted sight lines due to the size of the speaker stacks," says Lee. "We were granted some money from our council to update the FOH speaker system and amplif

Vietnam - VDC client QV Sound has recently installed a very successful sound system for Saigon's new Dong Tien Church using Van Damme cabling throughout. One of the largest and most beautiful churches in Saigon, the 2500 sq. m Dong Tien Church consists of a central aisle, left and right wings and a 24m high dormitory ceiling.

Saigon's Bishop Tran Thanh Cao said, "The most critical element of Dong Tien Church is not in the beauty or the architecture or the landscape but in the sound system. The sound system needs to deliver the natural sound and clearly convey any single spoken word of God."

A typical church layout is a distribution system with multiple speakers hanging low just above ear-level. The result is the members of the congregation only hear the closest speaker, either from the left or the right hand side. The QV Sound team designed the speaker layout with a

The main concern was to create a sound system that would be powerful, accurate, flexible and easy to operate whilst being abl

UK - London-based audio and lighting equipment supply and rental business Podd Sound has had a busy 12 months supplying sound reinforcement equipment for PAs, live webcasts, launch parties and live performances by some of the hottest names in the music business, including Daft Punk, Little Mix and Olly Murs.

For many of these events, held in smaller, intimate stages or meeting rooms on record company premises rather than traditional concert venues, Podd Sound's owner Mat Podd is increasingly turning to a QSC WideLine-8 line array, supplied by exclusive UK QSC distributor Shure Distribution UK.

For the recent events by Little Mix and Olly Murs, Podd deployed eight WL3082 elements and six WL212-sw subs, arranged in two arrays of four tops and three subs per stereo channel, and driven by six QSC PowerLight 380 amps, with DSP system management by twin SC28 processors.

Dawn Raid - Tickets for Kate Bush's first live shows in 35 years sold out in less than 15 minutes. The singer said she was "completely overwhelmed by the response". "Thank you so much to everyone," she added. The Before the Dawn concerts, which take place this August and September, mark the singer's first return to the stage since The Tour Of Life in 1979. Demand was so high that the singer's own website, as well as some ticket-selling sites, crashed as people tried to log on.

Late News - A new Michael Jackson album, featuring eight new tracks from the late artist's archive, will be released on 13 May. UK - Shure Distribution UK (SDUK), the distributor for leading pro audio brands including Shure, QSC, DIS, Sound Devices, and Radial Engineering, has announced the end of its UK distribution agreement with US company Movek, manufacturer of the myMix network-based personal monitoring and recording system.

The company's internal reorganization last year prompted a review of distributed brands to ensure consistent focus and a cohesive product offering. Both SDUK and myMix recognised that the niche myMix product portfolio, which is a near complete solution to many audio applications, was now a difficult fit and would be better served by a new distributor. Effective 1 May, SDUK will be passing all responsibility for myMix sales and support to UK-based distributors Synthax Audio UK.

"As we moved to a selective distribution strategy and restructured our organisation to support s

UK - The Inception Group's evergreen homage to the late Margaret Thatcher has undergone a major lighting upgrade at the hands of Sound Division.

Opened by the fast growing company's Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling in April 2010, Maggie's in Chelsea is a 1980s-inspired boutique club named after the former British Prime Minister.

It had been trading largely without dynamic lighting until the operators contacted David Graham's London-based installation company, based on their sensitive lighting implementation at another heavily themed Inception venue, DISCO in Soho.

While the focal point at Maggie's is again the dance floor - now brought to life by a laser, strobe, scatter beams and four hemispheres - the more subtle work has been applied to bringing 80s icons such as Wham, Mr T, Super Mario, Sonic The Hedgehog etc to life with a series of cleverly detailed fixtures and driv

As a result, the Grand Ballroom, 680sq.m in size, is often used for convention centre events during trade fairs and exhibitions.

"The entire audio system is managed and configured via a PC in the control room loaded with the Q-Sys Designer software," explains Tommy Ho, senior sales manager at Audio System Consultants (Asia) Ltd (ASCL), the QSC distributor in Hong Kong. "In addition to providing delay and dynamics processing, and controlling meters, crossovers, filters

USA - Boulevard Pro, a leading NYC metro area audio systems and backline provider, has been assuring clients of great sound since 1986, when owners Anthony and James Cioffi came off the road as musicians, backing up artists like Gary U.S. Bonds and Mink Deville.

It's where they learned the value of having the right technology products for the markets they were working in, from renting out classic Fender Twin amps that clients of their rehearsal studio business in the 1980s knew to come to them for, to more recently having the in-demand products and systems that their live event and touring customers require. Boulevard Pro's latest addition to that latter category has been the recent addition of a full L-Acoustics Kara package.

According to Anthony Cioffi, 80 percent of what goes out their door for rentals are sound system components from L-Acoustics, whose products have litera

New Zealand - Four Allen & Heath Qu-16 digital rackmount mixers were used for the recent New Zealand Folk Festival in Auckland. Running for 40 years, the event annually attracts a line-up of international touring artists.

"There are certain considerations when mixing folk bands; firstly there are many unusual instruments - including bouzoukis, dulcimers, seven string acoustic guitars, harps, and accordions with built in mics, musicians unexpectedly come back on stage to perform with other bands, the crowd like a mix where you can hear a pin drop but at a "festival" level, and vocals must always be on top of the mix," explains engineer, Davyd Hodge. "That's why I need a dedicated surface area to manage this event."

Previously, Hodge has used a 40-channel analogue GL2800 from Allen & Heath but opted to use the company's new Qu-16 digital mixers arra

UK - MilTec (UK) Ltd will be showcasing a wide range of new products at the PLASA Focus show in April (Stand N-C07). In addition to the usual stand in the New Dock Hall, the company will have a live demo room in the Holiday Inn Hotel next door. Demos will be running all day and will give visitors an opportunity to listen to the successful Blakite range of speakers and to see a selection of LED lighting products.

The Blakite speakers were designed by MilTec and are built in the UK. Most are loaded with British drivers. The success of the speakers has inspired the company to expand the UK manufacturing base to include amplifiers and LED Lighting products.
