Europe - American singer Lana Del Rey has had a busy 2013, with her Paradise tour taking in arenas and theatres across Europe, followed by an array of summer festival appearances. A package of Sennheiser wireless equipment is ensuring that her cinematic sound loses none of its impact onstage.

Monitor engineer Matthew Kanaris specified the Sennheiser items for the tour, which includes two SKM 5200-MKII handheld microphones with Neumann KK105 capsules for Lana's main and spare vocal, 12 sets of G3 in-ear monitors and four G3 wireless belt packs for the tour's string section.

"Lana's vocal is the most important part of the show, so we wanted to use a microphone that was perfect for her and was sensitive to the different dynamics in her voice," says Kanaris. "We have always had great results when we used the wired version of the Neumann mic, so we decided to

Fringe Figures - Ticket sales at this year's Edinburgh Fringe are up by an estimated 5%, according to its organisers. The Fringe Society said more than 1,943,000 tickets were issued, with some shows still to have their final performance. It follows a slight drop in ticket sales last year caused by a clash with the Olympics being held in London. Many individual venues are reporting even higher increases, with established venues up between 20% and 30%.

The 2013 programme for the Fringe, the biggest arts festival in the world, featured 45,464 performances of 2,871 shows at a total of 273 venues across the city. Argentina - Since 2009, The Addams Family musical has been entertaining audiences on Broadway and on tour across the US. In 2012, an additional production opened in São Paulo (Brazil), followed by Rio de Janeiro and Sydney in 2013. This year saw further international expansion with a new production in Argentina where a DiGiCo SD7T will be back at the helm.

The original production was the first Broadway show to use a DiGiCo SD7T, with sound designers Acme Sound Partners working closely with DiGiCo, UK rental company Autograph, and local provider Masque Sound. Subsequent touring and productions had fewer demands for the Front of House console so the SD7 was not specified. But associate sound designer Jason Crystal, who has represented the show on these various productions, was very pleased when Loudness Sound Rental & Services, the local audio provider, requested that an S

Finland - The Finnish equivalent of 'roll up, roll up', doesn't really translate into English, but that aside the language of circus is nothing if not international; even the horses seem to understand. "Good point," said BonBon the clown, or Lasse NØrager as he's known to his family. "Communicating with animals is one of the most important things that happen under the big top. That's why we paid it so much attention when we considered purchasing a PA system for Sirkus Finlandia." NØrager, besides his talent for visual humour, doubles as technical advisor.

"I have been with the circus for 30 years. In Finland circus began to engage with modern lighting about 20 years ago, sound about 10 years later. I've been looking after the Sirkus audio system for the last four or five years. By profession I'm a performer, but I've worked with sound since

Europe - Known for his boundary-crossing repertoire that includes classical arrangements of rock, pop, and punk music, violinist David Garrett recently performed a series of open-air shows across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. German production service provider POOLgroup deployed a Meyer Sound Leo linear large-scale sound reinforcement system for the tour.

Kai Ulrich, FOH engineer for Garrett, was first attracted to Leo's headroom, which would allow him to eliminate delay loudspeakers for many shows.

"Everything sounds so effortless with LEO," says Ulrich. "You can really feel the headroom, even though the David Garrett show is not very loud. The first time I used the system I was actually completely overwhelmed by the sound, and I am not at all 'brand religious'."

David Garrett's touring Leo system featured up to 12 Leo-M line array loudspeakers per

Denmark - Rune Slot, live sound engineer for Danish rock band D-A-D, has turned to DPA Microphones to deliver the loud, punchy sound for which the band is famous. Slot has been on tour with D-A-D for most of this year, taking in countries such as China and the US as well as plenty of places in Europe.

To mic drummer Laust Sonne's snare drum, Slot uses a combination of a DPA d:dicate 2011C Twin Diaphragm Cardioid Microphones and DPA d:vote 4099 Instrument Microphones, with the former positioned above the snare and the latter below. The d:votes are also used to mike the toms, high hat and cymbals, with reinforcement provided by a DPA d:dicate 4011 Compact Cardioid Microphone positioned underneath the cymbals. He also uses the 2011Cs to pick up Jacob Binzer's lead guitar. The musician has two cabinets that give a great combination of clean and dirty sound so Slot positioned the 201

Serbia - Making its stylish debut this summer was Serbia's latest nightlife spot, Hot Mess, in the capital of Belgrade. Hot Mess opened its doors in July to a crowd of beautiful party people, with a high powered Nexo system keeping the sounds going throughout the day and night.

The 400-capacity club is based around an open-air pool complete with swim-up bar, sun loungers and seating areas. Operating as a restaurant during the day, by nightfall the volume and pace are turned up as Hot Mess moves into club mode, with poolside dancing and drinking providing entertainment into the small hours.

The Nexo system was provided by local distributor Light and Sound Design, who designed and installed a system of six PS10-R2 high power cabinets and four LS600 sub bass units driven by NXAMP 4x4 amplifiers, plus two Yamaha MSR400 active monitors. The PS10-R2s have been positioned around the

Australia - Criniti's has become an institution since it first launched in 2003, building up a cult following and reputation for lovingly prepared recipes that reflect authentic cuisine from their origins in Southern Italy. With four restaurants already in tow, Criniti's Manly is the latest venue to join the family.

Constant Technology were called upon to design, supply and install an audio system, and fortunately budget was not an issue!

"They wanted a system that would sound great, be well distributed and would offer control of all areas independently," commented Con Constantinou, managing director of Constant Technology. "The venue has eight audio zones, including a main restaurant, pastry area and outdoor areas, which is quite a lot for a venue of 400m²."

The pastry kitchen and reception area has fifteen JBL Control 42C in ceiling speakers plus three

USA - Founded in 1850 by German immigrants, St. Joseph Fullerton is a Roman Catholic church located just north of Baltimore in Perry Hall, Maryland, USA. St. Joseph's current building, an octagonal structure with around-the-sanctuary seating, and imaginative décor has impressed parishioners and visitors for more than 40 years.

St. Joseph's original sound system used ceiling loudspeakers to cover the sanctuary and had been augmented with loudspeakers in the organ chamber. However, coverage was uneven in many locations and very poor in the back of the church.

Through a referral from another church, St. Joseph's contacted Mike Flaherty of Nelson White Systems in Baltimore. Flaherty recommended a system based on Community's Entasys column line arrays. He had used Entasys in other church sound systems and knew they would provide smooth coverage throughout the sanctuary and p

UK - The Roland R-1000 48 track audio recorder/player has been out on tour with James recently, used by system engineer Mark O'Neill from AudioPlus to record their live performances. The UK tour, which took place earlier this year covered 11 dates in venues of varying sizes, from arenas to academies.

To make the recordings, the inputs from a DiGiCo SD8 desk were fed into a Roland S-MADI REAC Bridge which converted the signal from MADI to REAC (Roland Ethernet Audio Connection) to go into the R-1000. The S-MADI REAC Bridge is a bi-directional signal converter between REAC and MADI enabling connectivity between MADI-equipped digital audio mixers/systems to any REAC-based devices. A Roland S-4000 chassis was custom loaded with SO-DA4 output cards and used as an output device from the R-1000 via REAC to break the signal into analogue lines to feed into the Midas XL4 desk in use at F

USA - Imagine Dragons, the alternative rock band from Las Vegas, has spent the majority of 2013 on their Night Visions tour performing in North America and Europe. Their hit single Radioactive boasts more than 4.0m downloads and counting.

Escondido, California-based Sound Image was chosen to providing sound reinforcement for the US portions of the tour. The Nashville office heads up the production.

"When we received the bid, it came down to determining which system would provide the SPL, flexibility and sonic quality the band required," explains Andrew Dowling, systems engineer for Sound Image. "The band needed the ability to do full size sheds and arenas as well as smaller venues."

FOH Engineer Scott Eisenberg and production manager Eric 'Shakes' Grzybowski ultimately decided that the Adamson Energia E15 line arrays would provide everything

France - Located in the picturesque Alsace region of France, the Espace Culturel Le Parc in Ribeauvillé is one of the region's primary entertainment centres. A recent technical upgrade has seen an all-digital Yamaha and Nexo audio installation deliver a dramatic improvement to the venue's sound quality and flexibility.

Built in 1997 and run by the local municipality, the 580-seat venue hosts mainly live music and theatre, but also presentations and conferences. After 17 years of near-constant use the audio system needed a significant upgrade because cables, connectors and other components required replacing, plus the PA was no longer sufficient to meet the demands of contemporary shows.

Supplied by French audio specialists Lagoona, the new PA system comprises flown arrays of Nexo Geo S12 and S1230 loudspeakers, plus ground-stacked RS18 subs and PS10 R2 front-fills. The
