Germany - With more than 100 years of tradition behind it, the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus is among the largest and most important theatres operating in the German speaking countries.

Since 1970 it has been located in the Bernhard Peacock building at Gustaf-Gründgens space where it was spectacularly designed by architect Bernhard Pfau. The sculptural structure boasts curvaceous lines, is staggered in height, is divided into a large house (with 760 seats) and a small house with up to 200 seats. It also contains the 'Young Schauspielhaus Dusseldorf-Rath', with separate 300 and 100 seat theatre spaces.

Australia - Monitor engineer John Merchant has worked with The Bee Gees and now Barry Gibb solo, since 1989. A highly qualified professor who teaches audio production in Nashville, Merchant is a studio engineer who has also worked with artists such as Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion and Michael Bublé.

Merchant has just finished touring Australia with Barry Gibb and FOH engineer Howard Page using gear supplied by JPJ Audio.

The audio for the tour constantly garnered rave reviews for being emotional and intimate whilst making the audience feel close to Barry.

The stage was clean with not one speaker in sight as the entire band were using in ear monitoring. All of the front line singers (Barry, Steve, Samantha and Beth Cohen when she sang lead) used Shure PSM 1000.

USA - Behringer has checked off another milestone on their expansion into installed sound with the announcement that the CL Series of loudspeakers are now shipping to all markets, globally. UK - Celebrating its status as the first quadrennial UK City of Culture, the Northern Ireland city of Derry / Londonderry is staging an array of events throughout the year. The most spectacular was the finale Showdown on the Foyle of The Return of Colmcille on 8 June, where a mile of the River Foyle was the stage for a dramatic battle of good against evil. Despite immense technical challenges, Yamaha audio equipment ensured that thousands of the city's citizens had the night of their lives.

UK - Liverpool-based technical solutions provider Adlib supplied innovative singer / songwriter Lana Del Rey with an L-Acoustics K1 sound system for her on-going and highly successful UK and European tour.

Adlib's George Puttock designed the audio system, which was specified by Joe Harling and tour manager Peter Abbott. Puttock and Adlib's Sam Proctor rigged and oversaw all the equipment on the road, with Adlib's Simon Lawson as PA tech ensuring that Del Rey's FOH and monitor engineers Joe Harling and Matt Kanaris could achieve the best possible sonic results in a wide variety of venues.

The main PA hangs in their largest configuration were 12 x L-Acoustics K1 per side with three Kara downs, together with side-hangs of three L-Acoustics SB18s with 12 Kara underneath.

Fundraising Fellowship - The Arts Council is to fund a new fellowship programme to train arts fundraisers of the future. The Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy Fellowship will offer 11 places for entrepreneurial graduates at organisations including Opera North and Tate Liverpool. The programme is the first of its kind in the UK. With continuing spending cuts it is thought fundraisers will be increasingly important for the arts. A recent study by the charity Arts & Business suggested a growing divide in donations to the arts between London and the rest of England. Philanthropic giving to theatres and galleries rose 10% in London between 2011 and 2012. while donations elsewhere fell 3.5%. The trainee fundraisers will take part in an intensive 12 month training programme and it is hoped that they will go on to be leading directors of arts organisations in the future.

Belgium - Hifi-Center Melis and Jan Geerts have completed the installation of a new Community Entasys sound system for Sint-Leonardus Church, located in Aartselaar on the southern outskirts of Antwerp.

With its oldest parts dating back to 1792, and additions in 1861, Sint-Leonardus Church is a traditional building with a beautiful interior, but its dimensions and highly reflective surfaces presented difficult acoustic problems.

The supplier Hifi-Center Melis, and installer Jan Geerts, worked closely with Olivier Massart of Community's Belgian distributor, M-Pro BeNeLux, to determine a solution that would provide the wide coverage required for the congregation with the very narrow vertical dispersion needed to avoid reflections.

UK - For the third consecutive year, Adlib Solutions supplied an L-Acoustics K1 PA system for the popular Capital FM Summertime ball event, staged at Wembley Stadium, London, which this year seriously upped the ante with line up hosted by Justin Timberlake, and featuring Robbie Williams, Taylor Swift, Lawson, Jessie J, Disclosure, Rudimental, Ellie Goulding and more.

The K1 was tuned by KSE & systems engineer Tony Szabo, who was joined by an Adlib crew of 16 including crew chief Marc Peers, and Dave Kay who worked as RF Co-ordinator.

Ian Nelson operated the presenter console, Michael Bernard Flaherty supervised the patch while Adlib's project manager Phil Stoker collaborated closely with the event's technical producers Production North, specifically their sound supervisor Andrew 'Baggy' Robinson and production manager Sarah Hollis, on the logistics.

UK - Manchester based dbn Lighting supplied lighting equipment, LED screens and a top crew to seven performance areas at the vibrant 2013 Parklife Weekender Festival in Manchester, which moved for the first time to a new venue in Heaton Park, complete with an expanded capacity and up to 50,000 guests a day.

dbn's Nick Walton and Nick Buckley project managed the event, taking care of lighting and visuals for the Main Stage, Stages 3, 4, 7 and 8, the VIP area and the Tree House.

Working for Ear To The Ground, they provided over 250 moving lights site-wide and engaged in extensive advanced planning to ensure that everything ran smoothly and seamlessly once on location. The operation involved 12 dbn crew the week before, all working efficiently to maximise time and resources.

Belgium - As well as live music, theatre, sport and broadcast, Yamaha's CL series digital consoles are increasingly being specified by colleges teaching state-of-the-art sound mixing and networking. One example is Belgium's Institut des Arts de Diffusion (IAD), where a CL5 is a vital part of its live production courses.

UK - Princes William and Harry recently conducted a rare Royal engagement together as they opened the latest Help for Heroes recovery centre at Tedworth House in Wiltshire. CPS Group chose a Yamaha CL5 system to provide audio feeds for the guests and a large media presence.

Tedworth House is one of four recovery centres run by the Help for Heroes charity, providing both residential and day care to servicemen who have had life-changing injuries or illnesses, acting as a 'launch pad' back to life.

Brazil - An Allen & Heath GLD mixer has been installed in Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium in Brazil. One of the most renowned stadiums in South America, the venue has been closed for a three-year major renovation, and now includes a GLD-80 mixer at the heart of an EV sound system distributed via a Dante network.

"The main reason we chose GLD was because of Allen & Heath's fantastic sound quality, reliability and ease of use," explains Augusto Bergamim, sound manager and system programmer at the Maracana.

The stadium reopened with a friendly match featuring Ronaldo and Bebeto, and has since hosted a friendly match between the national sides of Brazil and England. The Maracana will host world class events such as the final games of the Confederations Cup and the FIFA World Cup in 2014.

USA - One of this season's hottest tickets on Broadway is the runaway hit Motown: The Musical, which features a story line that weaves together more than 60 hit songs by the artists that transformed Detroit into a hit-making capital. France - The Odeon Theatre in Tremblay-en-France situated north-east of Paris, has recently replaced its aging digital desk in favour of an Eclipse GT digital console from Innovason. It is also one of the first sales/installations to have been handled by Sennheiser France since they took over distribution of the Innovason brand at the end of 2012.

The Odeon theatre in Tremblay is part of a municipal cultural centre that also houses an academy of arts offering courses in music and dance. There are two performance venues within the Odeon; the main theatre which offers a wide variety of musical production, from classical concerts to jazz, blues, contemporary music and 'la chanson francaise', while the smaller stage is dedicated to auditions for the arts academy.
