Monitor engineer Graham Blake, whose 25 years' experience includes working with Queen, Live Earth, Spice Girls and the Classical Brits as well as the last five years with Simply Red, says, "The band all commented on the warmth and richness of the sound. They really noticed the difference. I've never had a band respond to new equipment like that before.

The tour provided Blake with an opportunity to use the XL8 on the road for the first time, having completed the training with Midas' brand development manager Richard Ferriday some eight months earlier. "Even with that kind of gap it was easy to pick up," says Blake who was won over by the XL8's scope and versatility, and eager

Europe - Pearl Jam engineer Karrie Keyes has taken a Midas PRO6, supplied by Rat Sound, out on the band's 2010 tour in support of the current Backspacer album.

This marks a digital first for Keyes, who has never before taken a digital console on the road. She has been mixing monitors since 1991 and, in recent years, more usually opted for a Heritage desk.

"In the past," says Keyes, "we have not been able to get (vocalist) Eddie Vedder on a digital because we've not got the sound quality but the PRO6 has really delivered. We have found no issues with latency and the band loves the sound."

Keyes herself quickly felt at home on the PRO6. "I felt pretty comfortable with it after the first show," she says, "and the factory support from Midas is amazing.

"The key to mixing monitors for Pearl Jam is keeping my eyes on Ed and the band

Malaysia - Aviom personal mixers are helping to tame the battle between monitors and front of house for the services at Tabernacle of Worship in Seremban, Malaysia. Established in 1983, the Tabernacle's congregation has grown to about 900 worshipers attending its weekend English and Chinese language services.

For years, the church battled with a poor monitoring system that did not effectively meet the needs of the musicians and singers in the worship band. Frustrated musicians complained that they could not hear themselves while the volunteer audio staff said the musicians' high monitor volumes made mixing for the congregation impossible.

As part of an upgrade to its monitoring setup, the church moved to an Aviom personal mixing system, installed by First Live Sound Sdn Bhd and supplied by Coda Audio Services Pte, to help overcome the challenges. With the Aviom Personal Mixers

UK - Children's television favourite Peppa Pig is currently on a major UK tour, bringing a first experience of theatre to thousands of toddlers and pre-school children. Coping with an inherently noisy audience without having volume levels too high is a tricky balancing act, but one which front of house engineer Colin Allen and a Yamaha LS9 console are well in command of.

The tour is a genuine ABC of Britain's city and provincial venues, ranging in size from 500 to 1500 capacity. From having actors visibly working the puppet characters to a sound that's loud enough, but not overly so, everything is geared to making the show enjoyable and interactive - but not overwhelming or frightening - to its very young audience.

Designed by Ian Horrocks-Taylor and supplied by Blitz Communications, at the core of the audio system is a Yamaha LS9-16 mixing console, SB168-ES stage box a

Commissioned by Siqqel Holdings, the truck's inaugural appearance was in the town of Tala earlier this month, where crowds gathered for a Mulika Mwizi event. "Everyone was satisfied and the occasion was a

USA - Atlanta Institute of Music (AIM) has installed 10 Fostex LR16 digital recording mixers to teach recording techniques and signal flow in their main studio classroom. Located in suburban Duluth, Georgia, AIM is an accredited educational institution that offers both music and recording programs. One of the challenges facing the recording program was finding a reliable hands-on method of teaching recording techniques and signal flow to students in a group situation.

"We have a very nice studio set-up, with a full live room and tracking studio," says Ryan Williams, director of the recording department at the school. "But with up to 20 students in a class, we needed an efficient way to give them experience with the real basics of recording and mixing."

To give students experience in multi-track recording without having to take turns on the main console, AIM

Norway - Cinema is as popular a form of entertainment as it has ever been, but today's audiences are more demanding than ever. Fulfilling those expectations was the main requirement of Norway's Bergen Kino, when it commissioned the installation of an Alcons system at the country's highest profile cinema.

Built in 1918, originally as a concert hall, Konsertpaléet screen 1 (KP1) is the premier cinema auditorium in Bergen and attracts cinephiles from across Scandinavia to enjoy its quality surroundings, sound and vision facilities. UK - Once again MilTec (UK) worked with South West Audio Group to supply equipment for the Glastonbury Festival.

A dozen of the MT Pro Acoustics MTA-TP12 speakers were bought by SWA Group for use as monitor wedges on the BBC Introducing Stage. They were chosen by SWA Group's MD Alister Pook after a demo at their HQ near Bristol.

The multi-purpose cabinets are intended to double as both PA speakers and stage wedges, with a 45 degree slope incorporated into the design. SWA Group needed a 60 degree slope for this particular application and worked with MilTec to develop an adaptor bracket to change the angle of projection. The bracket bolts on using two of the speaker's built-in flying points. This allows the speaker to be directed upwards at 60 degrees or horizontally as FOH fills or drum monitors.

Designed by MilTec's technical director, Graham Gosden, the birch ply cabinets a

USA - Australian band Jet has hit the road in America to support the group's latest album, Shaka Rock. Manning the controls at front of house is veteran mixer Kyle Chirnside, with Will Burston on the monitor desk. The group is carrying its own front of house console, a Midas PRO6 live audio system supplied by Big Mo Pro in Parsippany, New Jersey.

"I've been using the PRO6 for two years now," says Chirnside. "In fact, we did the first few shows on this tour without it, and I can tell you, it makes a huge difference. With the digital snake system and on-board processing, the PRO6 really makes everything easier, and helps us get the most out the house rigs we encounter."

All shows on the tour are being recorded. For that task, Chirnside opted for the Klark Teknik DN9696 high resolution audio recorder. Designed to integrate seamlessly with Midas digital

"Andy and I discussed what would be the best mic for the 4 Poofs," says Terry Tew, "and I advised him that the SM63s would be the right product to cope with their microphone technique. The fact that they've used the same ones for the last nine years is testament to the fact that we got it right."

Now the four mics are to find four new homes via four separate e-bay auctions, which will start at 9am on Wednesday 14 July following the recording of Ross's last show, which will air on F
