Argentina - On 22 January, Elton John returned for a concert at the Boca Juniors Club Stadium, 16 years after his last show in Argentina. The show was performed in front of an audience of 25,000, with James Blunt as the opening act. Buenos Aires Live Show was the company responsible for providing sound to the event.

The company employed Powersoft amplifiers K10, K8 and K6 to power the sound system, sound which consisted of a main L/R system of 14 JBL Vertec VT 4889-1 and an out-fill of 12 JBL Vertec VT4889-1 per side with subwoofers (VCA Sub Low 2x21"), while for the monitoring system BALS used 16 bi-amplified coaxial Proel CLX15 with six Powersoft Q4002 amplifiers to achieve eight monitor mixes.

New Zealand - New Zealand PA company, Noise Productions, employed its Allen & Heath iLive digital system at the Christmas in the Park event held during the festive period in Masterton, near Wellington.

Hosted by a local radio personality and supported by More FM Radio, the community-based event was held in Masterton's main park and featured a performance by the Nick Tansley Big Band, custom-created for the event using session musicians and fronted by the host himself.

iLive managed FOH and monitor sound for the 26-piece band. The iDR10 MixRack was installed on stage linked via CAT5 cable to the iLive-144 Control Surface at FOH, whilst monitor sound was mixed on stage over WIFI with a laptop loaded with iLive Editor control software. Switzerland - One of the final elements in a 3-year renovation of the Bundeshaus (Swiss Parliament) in Bern is the installation of a Nexo GEO S8 sound reinforcement system in its largest council chamber, specified for its "exceptional intelligibility and low profile".

International architectural and acoustic consultants Walter-Storyk Design Group (WSDG) worked closely with installation company Kilchenmann AG and Nexo distributor ZAP Audio on this project, which began in 2006.

One of the goals was the integration of modern technology into a faithful restoration of the building's original structure. This applied in particular to the installation of a PA system in the National Council Hall.

Australia - Thanks to its long-standing Australian distributor Syntec, Rycote, the UK-based microphone windshield specialist, has secured a sizeable order for nearly 70 windshield kits from one of Australia's newest outside broadcast companies.

On Site Broadcast Australia (also known as OSB) was created late last year when two existing OB companies, Sydney's zerO1zerO and Melbourne's Broadcast Rentals, merged. The windshield kits, which are for use in OSB's outside broadcast vehicles, are being supplied via Syntec.

Even before the company merger, zerO1zerO was in the process of ordering over 20 Rycote windshields last year to kit out its newest HD OB vehicle, which was commissioned with assistance from Sony Broadcast.

Following the merger, the decision was taken to refurbish two of Broadcast Rentals' older SD vehicles and to re-equip zerO1zerO's existing SD truck. Rycote win

Croatia - Oktava, RCF's distributor in Croatia, working closely with RCF's Systems Engineering Department, have designed and installed a complete new audio system for the Zadar sports arena.

The system was specially conceived to be extremely compact and controls and distributes audio in every part of the arena.

RCF TT+ loudspeakers were chosen for the playing and the seating areas because of their "high power and sound definition". TT25-A loudspeakers were installed on the round structure above the parterre, amplifying the sound towards the seats while TT22-A models were used for the playing area. An MX1822 mixer manages the audio signals sent to the loudspeakers.

RCF PL60 ceiling speakers have been installed in all the other areas - locker rooms, corridors, pressroom, restaurant and VIP room - using the A1360 mounting hardware.

UK - DPA's UK distributor Sound Network has supplied a large quantity of DPA microphones and accessories to the Department of Music at the University of Huddersfield. The university has purchased a DPA 3511 stereo cardioid kit, DPA 3506 stereo condenser kit, a DPA 5006-11 surround mic kit with an S5c surround mount, a DPA 3521 compact cardioid stereo kit and two each of DPA SMK 4060 and 4061 miniature stereo kits.

The mics were specified by Dr Pierre Alexandre Tremblay, senior lecturer in composition at the university, as part of his research in mixed music, a blending of acoustic instruments with electronic sounds and processing.

At a meeting on 13 February, representatives of the programme making and special events (PMSE) sector agreed their common position on Ofcom's latest proposals for the future of the 'Digital Dividend' spectrum. These stakeholders included equipment manufacturers, end users, rental users and trade associations.

USA - At the 51st Annual Grammy Awards Show, telecast on CBS from L.A.'s Staples Centre 0n 8 February, XM Productions/Effanel Music employed Genelec 8200 Series Active DSP Monitoring Systems.
