UK - Acoustic specialists Vanguardia Consulting has announced that environmental acoustics expert David Trevor-Jones has joined its management team, headed by Jim Griffiths and John Staunton. The enlarged firm also opened a London office near London Bridge on 1 November.

Jim Griffith comments: "David, John and I have kept in close contact since we worked together on local authority noise research projects at the GLC's Scientific Branch in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Romania - The club La Mania on Romania's Black Sea coast which is only open in the summer months features a newly installed Dynacord alpha system. Located in Mamaia, the club can accommodate around 2,500 guests at a time.

Cornel Petcu of the Romanian Dynacord partner HSA Audio described how the system was put through its paces for the benefit of the La Mania team: "The club's sound technicians were already fully informed about the system before we arrived. They knew all about the Dynacord alpha's international references. Even so, when they actually heard the system for the first time with their own ears, they were totally convinced not only by the sound pressure levels the system was delivering but also by the quality of the reproduction."

UAE - Atlantis, The Palm - the focal point of the man-made island of Palm Jumeirah, billed as the ultimate fantasy hotel and estimated to have cost around 1.5 billion dollars - launched itself upon Dubai on 20 October with a much publicised event attended by stars from stage, film, music and sport. Audio specialist Delta Sound, which has recently expanded its Dubai office, provided the sound system.

"We were recommended by technical director Simon Ransom, and worked directly for Atlantis's owners, Kerzner International," says Andy Jackson, in charge of Delta Dubai and sound designer and project manager for the Atlantis launch. "Simon asked me to design the sound design and so it made sense for Delta to look at the whole project, including supplying equipment."

With an 11-month planning period and Delta already in a significant growth period, it gave the co

Korea - The Studio '80s Dance Club in Seoul's Shin Chon university district specialises in music of the 70s through to the 90s, playing almost everything except for current chart tracks. Kim Gino, one of Korea's top DJs and a music business veteran with more than 30 years experience, owns the club which launched five years ago.

The venue's old sound system was deemed too small and inflexible, so the Studio '80s Dance Club was recently treated to a new rig. And the system of choice was an HK Audio Actor DX.

Kim Gino comments: "We selected HK Audio Actor after trying out several systems. The records of the '70s, '80s, and '90s sound really powerful and much more dynamic with Actor. That's probably because tracks weren't compressed as much back then as they are today and that's closer to the real live sound."

UK - Cadac Electronics was placed into administration yesterday, 1 December, following the eventual collapse of a prolonged 14-week negotiation over the sale of the company. LSI Online understands that all of the staff have now been made redundant.

A notice is expected to be posted on the Cadac website shortly.

News of Cadac's troubles emerged in June, with the announcement - premature as it turned out - that the company had been placed into administration, following an unexpected fall-off in anticipated sales of the company's analogue products. However, shortly after, a new finance package was agreed with the bank and a new business plan drawn up before the administration papers were filed - as revealed by Audio File in Lighting&Sound International's July-August 2008 issue.

Sound engineers, organisers and the 800 invited guests at the opening event were convinced and satisfied with the sound quality. "We like the sound and the user-friendly handling. This small, compact system with its clear design fits perfectly in our functional architecture," says a spok

Czech Republic - SK Slavia Praha has scored another success after winning its first 1 Liga title in 17 years, installing Europe's first Renkus-Heinz RHAON-empowered audio system for its brand new Stadion Eden. The system delivers single-cable digitally networked operation throughout the stadium.

After a saga stretching back to the team's birth in Prague in 1892, the new 21,000 seat Stadion Eden opened in the Vršovice district of Prague this spring, with an innovative roof suspension that allows an unobstructed view from every seat.

Lucie Antonsonova of the company's Czech distributor, Audiopro, observes: "Sound distribution in sport stadiums is usually a big issue - there are only few which can be proud of their solution. It's often a last-minute solution because the budget has already been spent. SK Slavia Praha wanted their new stadium to set a new standard."

UK - Adlib Audio supplied a V-DOSC sound system to the recent Scouting For Girls UK tour which was specified by the band's FOH engineer, Andy Williamson.

It was the first time Williamson had toured V-DOSC. It was also his first time using Adlib on a full touring show although he's known Andy Dockerty and Tony Szabo for many years and worked with them on previous gigs. "Adlib work in a very personal way with all their clients, and I wanted a company that could guarantee this commitment to service and attention to detail," he states.

They used 8 V-DOSC elements per side with six of the new L-Acoustics SB28 subwoofers per side and 4 ARCS per side ground stacked. Due to the large differences in venue sizes, they also carried 24 dV-DOSC and four dVSUBS to act as side-hangs. For the arenas on the itinerary, they upped the total V-DOSC count to 24. The ARCS also served as f

Bermuda - Roselle Park, NJ based sound company Audio Inc. utilised BSS Audio Soundweb London to help run live sound reinforcement at the Bermuda Music Festival, a multi-day live concert event held in October, featuring artists such as Beyonce, Alicia Keys, and UB40.

Mike Sinclair, vice president of Audio Inc. learned how useful Soundweb London could be to him at the InfoComm 2008 show. "We were looking for a return snake for large sound systems, and it was suggested by Geoff Lissman of Harman that we consider Soundweb London.

"We used Soundweb London devices to do all the processing," stated Sinclair. "We can get 256 channels to the stage and I have complete control and confidence in how they run. BSS Audio gave us the flexibility to have three or four consoles live and plugged in all the time. Soundweb London became the system matrix. Everyone had t

"The club is in one of the older buildings in town," says Andy Gilbert of ALG, "so there are high and low ceilings in different rooms. We install a lot of EV equipment and we knew that the ZX1s would give us the coverage we wanted as well as high SPLs on the dance floor." 12 ZX1s have been wall-mounted t

UK - The latest production of Living's Most Haunted Live was set in a location that would raise the goose bumps of even the most pragmatic onlooker. The derelict and dilapidated Denbigh Asylum, was the setting for the live shows produced by Antix Productions and broadcast for four hours live each consecutive night for the week leading up to Halloween.

Antix Productions worked with Stage Electrics on the project having already delivered 13 Most Haunted Live programmes together over three years. The location, due to be demolished and redeveloped after filming had ceased, was initially visited by Antix, Stage Electrics and lighting director Warren Hodge in September, just eight weeks before the show. Its potential as the perfect location was instantly recognised.

Due to the dilapidated state of the buildings, Stage Electrics' Live Events team had first to ensure the

Italy - Last summer, Italian DJ Joe T Vannelli took over a second discotheque: the Canniccia Versilia in the Tuscan resort of Marina di Pietrasanta. For the Canniccia Versilia, he opted for the same formula that worked so successfully in his first club, the Area Venezia in Venice.

While architect Massimo Cadamuro concerned himself with the refashioning of the interiors, installation engineer Dario Juka selected and assembled the requisite equipment; Juka's first decision was to replace the existing audio system with an alpha concept system from Dynacord.

Dario Juka notes, "Our watchwords are 'state-of-the-art in every respect'. Since we engage as resident and guest DJs only the very best in their fields, we cannot and will not tolerate any compromises. All the experts - whether DJs or music producers - are convinced of the qualities of this system."

"In our business, working with marine applications, we have specific issues to address. For example, our client needed a public address system approved for ship use (for insurance purposes), and we needed to replace our previous system quickly in the dry dock, because the ship can't sail if the system isn't working.
