UK - Some of London's most acclaimed restaurants have been installing Electro-Voice loudspeakers of late, via installer CGA Integration. Most recently, the new Alain Ducasse restaurant at the Dorchester Hotel, China Tang (also at the Dorchester) and Mayfair restaurant Tamarind have all commissioned CGA Integration to apply its audio expertise.

Chris Gunton of CGA Integration observes a distinct trend in the city's fine dining rooms: "We've recently worked at several venues where the traditionally high standards applied to cuisine, service and décor have now been transferred to audio-visual aspirations: AV is no longer the poor relation in a prestige hotel or restaurant project, but has come of age with the benefits it offers both the finished venue and its bottom line."

After successfully installing EV-based background music systems in China Tang and The Cryst

South Korea - The Daedeok Presbyterian Church was established 50 years ago, and construction on a new building was completed in October of 2007. Located in Daedeok, a special district of Seoul designed for science and engineering research, the Church's congregation is made up of students and faculty from the surrounding scientific colleges and laboratories, which devoted their talent and knowledge in the building of the architectural sanctuary.

The sanctuary rejects both rectangular organisation and symmetry, similar to the Berlin Philharmonic hall. Its concrete finished wall was influenced by the Opera house in Sidney. This abstract design makes achieving crisp, clear sound very difficult.

The church's staff closely reviewed proposals with the top 5 industry leading sound companies designs for matching its architecture and decided that Adamson's SpekTrix line source array sys

UK - Shure Distribution UK (SDUK), a leading multibrand distributor of professional audio equipment, has teamed up with Primacoustics, a high-end sound and studio acoustic manufacturer, tobe their exclusive representative in the UK.

Primacoustics offers comparatively priced acoustic-treatment solutions in packages designed around common room sizes and audio applications. Their acoustic treatments have taken various factors that are often overlooked - expense, room logistics and the perception of acoustic design, say the company.

Dennis Harburn, managing director of Shure Distribution commented: "We are delighted to be working with Primacoustics. They make an excellent addition to our studio portfolio which already includes products from Shure, Phonic and Radial. They have over 30 years experience in studio and live sound equipment and are a perfect match for the Shure bra

UK - Allen & Heath will be exhibiting a cross section of its new digital and analogue mixers at the forthcoming ABTT show in London this June.

New to the show is the iDR0 2U rack processing unit, which provides all the processing features of the company's iLive digital mixing system for networked audio. It is billed as a cost effective and compact solution for users who wish to mix common sources for different applications such as FOH and Monitor, or need an additional mix for broadcast or recording that allows full processing and mix capability with the source material.

The unit will be shown as part of a comprehensive iLive system, comprising an iDR10 mixrack and iLive-112 control surface. Also on show will be an iDR DSP system for installed audio distribution.

Allen & Heath will also be demonstrating the 4 bus ZED-428 from the new ZED range of compact USB-equipped mixers

UK - RTS Digital Intercoms have supplied a Cronus Digital Matrix to Glyndebourne Opera House as the centrepiece of a new "state of the art" integrated communications and paging system. The new system provides flexible paging to multiple zones and integrates production communications and 85 radio belt packs covering the site. The entire system is controllable from any PC in the complex via the easy to use software interface AZ Edit.

Simon Yapp, head of audio visual and sound at Glyndebourne and his colleague Keith Benson, head of lighting, needed to find a solution to replace the Glyndebourne's old paging system, which had become unsupportable. The solution was required to not only replace the original paging system with 16 zones but also offer increased flexibility without throwing away the existing cable infra-structure and speaker system, all of which were still serv

Japan - The Alios Iwaki Performing Arts Centre is a newly built multipurpose city hall in Iwaki, Japan. The word ALIOS stands for Art, Life, Information, Oasis and Sightseeing. The sound system that was installed in to this new build included 16 XTA DP448 audio management systems.

Situated 300km east of Tokyo, the city of Iwaki is in the southern part of the Hamadori coastal region of Fukushima, Tohoku. Iwaki is the industrial hub for the region, and is also very popular with tourists - around 7.6 million visit each year.

The main hall of Iwaki Alios seats up to 1,700, and although it was mainly designed to stage classical concerts, musicals and classic Japanese theatre productions, careful consideration was given during the design stage so that all types of performances could be staged. The recently opened complex also comprises a 230-seater theatre as well as four band rehea

Germany - Berlin-based microphone manufacturer Neumann is celebrating its 80th anniversary.

"Each decade has its great stars and big hits," says the company. "The majority were produced using Neumann products". This has inspired the company to bring music history back to life with a special series of illustrations. From the swinging 50s, all through the colourful 70s and into modern times, Neumann has consistently represented innovation, reliability and quality."

Wolfgang Fraissinet, president marketing/sales at Neumann Berlin says, "Those who want to put their knowledge about music history to the test have the opportunity to do so at www.80yearsneumann.com. The main prizes are three brand new TLM 67s."

Germany - Waxy's Irish Pub opened its doors for the first time on 13 December 2007, in a prime central location right behind the Frankfurt stock exchange. Considerable importance was attached to the sound system installed. The task of planning was entrusted to YourEvent, directed by Mario Klein; Ludwig Becker of The Guitar Place Aschaffenburg handled the installation.

The unusual décor of the venue, which consists of a restaurant and a club, suggests the interior of an Irish church - complete with a mock organ, statues of angels, choir stalls, and a mock pulpit. Klein opted for a decentralized sound reinforcement concept, in accordance with the wishes of the Doyle family, who now run a total of seven Irish Pubs throughout Europe.

After careful testing, Klein opted for a mixture of different VariLine loudspeakers (VL62, VL262 and VL122) from Dynacord, plus FX20 subwoofer

Germany - The Thalia Theater in Hamburg, one of Germany's oldest, has chosen an Alcons QR36 system as its main sound reinforcement system. After many tests and measurements, Florian Scheunemann, head of sound department and Tobias Wursthorn, planning-assistant of the theatre, decided to go for QR36 pro-ribbon loudspeakers.

Scheunemann reports: "Soon after the first tests, it became clear what a remarkable resolution a pro-ribbon system has, as well as how exact the dispersion of the QR's really is. The refined architecture of the venue does not allow for every sound system design, as the ground floor seating needs to be covered without any interference. The QR's seemed to be the perfect fit."

Scheunemann continues: "Absolutely convincing, however, was the throw of the brilliant ribbon highs, that made a delay line obsolete. For a further system extension, we hav

Norway - The celebrated FIS World Cup skiing competitions are a tradition dating back nearly a century. For the sixth year, the Norwegian city of Drammen played host to the Cross-Country Sprint race for 1,700 athletes to compete in the city streets. The annual event attracted thousands of winter sports fans, many of whom pitched tents overnight to claim the best spots along the route.

The track encircled the main city center with the finish line in front of the historic Bragernes Church. Two large video displays enabled the crowds to follow the action while a Sound MICA and M3D line array loudspeaker system provided by Oslo-based AVAB CAC ensured that the attendees could hear the event clearly from anywhere along the route.

The nature of the outdoor event presented multifaceted challenges, each of which was tackled using a seamlessly integrated Meyer Sound system. "The Cr

Italy - Rimini's Paradiso is one of the few clubs in the world able to boast a 50-year history. The venue, offering clients a breathtaking view from its vantage point overlooking the Adriatic Riviera, recently made front-page news when the new owners - Luca De Simone and Alessandro Volta - announced their intention to re-open the legendary Italian venue precisely 50 years after its original inauguration, undertaking to restore it to its position as one of Europe's leading venues, and adopting a Martin Audio sound system.

The club became by-word on the international club scene thanks to the far-sighted management between 1970 and 2001 of Gianni Fabbri - son of Mirti Fabbri, who had the original idea of converting her country villa into a top class venue in 1957. Now the venue has again undergone a substantial renovation and technical upgrade before reopening its doors again to a

USA - NAB 2008 sees the fruits of a collaborative effort between Neumann and UK-based digital mixing console manufacturer, allowing Neumann's digital microphones to interface directly with DiGiCo's desks.

"Despite the development of the AES 42 interface, there wasn't any easy way to directly connect Neumann digital series microphones to a console," explains Sennheiser's senior applications engineer, Mike Pappas. "Now, with DiGiCo directly supporting AES 42, we have a digital path from microphone to speaker."

The latest Neumann product on show at NAB will be the TLM 103 D, the next classic microphone to enter the digital realm. Its integrated, fast peak limiter promises optimal recording levels at all times and the Neumann A/D converter built into the microphone eliminates the necessity of tedious experimentation with external converters and preamps, says th

USA - Miami's Drummer Boy Sound, 99 JAMZ WEDR, Powerade, and the City of Miami Gardens recently teamed up to sponsor and host the national touring Hoop It Up 3 on basketball challenge at Calder Race track in Miami Gardens, Florida. DBS deployed their portable Dynacord Cobra line array system for the event, with additional equipment from Electro-Voice, Midas, and Klark Teknik.

The event included a host of local and national R&B and Hip Hop artists, including Ray Lavender, ACE with DJ Khaled, and Urban Mystic, to name a few. The event was hosted by radio personality Mike B (99 Jamz WEDR) and DBS' VP of marketing and development, Tangela Cummings, AKA 'Lady DBS'. The banging bass and sounds were spun by Miami DJ's, DJ Ice and DJ Greo from WEDR 99 Jamz.

"It's a good thing when the only complaint you get for a two day event is that your system is too loud," says Harold Cu

Germany - Sennheiser's new studio microphone, the MKH 800 Twin, is based on the MKH 800 RF condenser microphone, and opens up completely new dimensions for sound engineers in broadcasting, studio recording and film scoring, suggests the company. The MKH 800 Twin is a dual-capsule microphone that provides two separate sound signals at the microphone output. This means that the pick-up pattern does not have to be set at the microphone before the recording but can be remotely fine-tuned and corrected at the mixing console under monitoring conditions, and even during post-production.

"The infinitely variable pick-up pattern enables sound engineers and recordists to try out new settings with minimum effort and to optimise the sound at the mixing console," explains Sebastian Schmitz, Sennheiser's product manager for microphones. "Any intermediate stage between the indiv

UK - Watford Grammar School's new music centre, designed by Tim Ronalds Architects, has bnenefitted from treatment by Arup Acoustics. Additionally, ETC lighting and controls have been installed by Lighting Logic.

Raf Orlowski, director at Arup Acoustics, says, "Around 15 years ago, Arup Acoustics carried out a survey of music facilities in schools for the then DfES and found inadequate conditions in many instances; pupils practicing in corridors, music classes blighted by extraneous noise and band rehearsals in totally inappropriate acoustic environments. This survey led eventually to the publication in 2004 of a government directive, Building Bulletin 93, which has resulted in a massive change in the acoustic quality of new music facilities and school buildings in general.

"The new Watford Music Centre at Watford Grammar School epitomises the best intentions

USA - Production Resource Group, L.L.C., (PRG) has formed a new company, PRG Distribution, L.L.C. (PRG Distribution) to distribute entertainment technology product lines from leading global manufacturers to dealers in North America. PRG vice-president Tim Brennan will oversee the new company, which operates independently from PRG with headquarters in Dallas, Texas.

Brennan states that the new company will sell exclusively to dealers, not to end-users. "PRG Distribution gives North American dealers and their customers access to state-of-the-art lighting equipment and other entertainment products that have been hugely popular with customers outside the US but difficult if not impossible to purchase in this country," he says. "Buyers can purchase this equipment from their regional dealers, fully confident that they will be able to get any parts and service they need

India - V-Dosc owner Electrocraft, a Mumbai-based sound company, was contracted to provide the FOH sound system for the kick-off concert of Iron Maiden, who started their Somewhere back in time tour last month.

UK - In support of the pop trio's fifth album, Change, Sugababes are performing throughout the UK on a series of sold-out dates.London's Canegreen is supporting the tour with a flexible self-powered Meyer Sound Mica system, frequently rearranged for the tour's varied venues. "We've been obliged to reconfigure it depending on where we are," says FOH engineer Andrew Thornton. "It's no problem at all, as the fundamental tonality of the system is unchanged."

Yan Stile, Canegreen's managing director comments: "The Mica array was really the obvious choice for the Sugababes' tour. It's got the power to deliver the mix, and great articulation and imaging to handle the vocals. And it's lightweight and quick to rig and tune; you just hang it and you're ready."

Two hangs of 12 Mica line array loudspeakers serve as the main system. Low frequency conten

UK - Audiovisualbay.co.uk is a new web-based sales resource that has been launched by Hertfordshire event production company Universal Event Production (UEP). It is designed to help companies of all types all around the world sell equipment they no longer use or need.

UEP's Steve Butcher comments: "We had bits of kit here collecting dust for ages which we always meant to sell on, but never got around to doing anything about it for a variety of reasons ......and I kept encountering people in this exact same situation. A major reason no-one was selling their unwanted kit was that they didn't have the time to get it together - it was always last on the agenda and something that no-one ever got around to. Also, until now, EBAY was the only serious option to reach a wide audience."

Butcher has decided to take advantage of this gap in the market with Audiovisualbay, making
