Europe - Since first shipping about a year ago, the EAW NT Series self-powered loudspeakers with "Gunness Focusing" onboard DSP technology has been making significant strides into the global professional audio market. Already, nearly 200 NT Series systems have gone to customers in Europe.

UK - Harman Pro UK has appointed Vince Borrelli to the role of senior music retail sales manager in charge of MI sales for the UK.

Previously with Mackie UK for more than seven years, Borrelli explained that he saw a huge untapped potential in the MI market for Harman Pro UK, a fact that he finds very exciting. Vietnam - Spanish pro audio manufacturer D.A.S. Audio continues its successful worldwide seminar tour. The company's qualified personnel so far have visited Argentina, India, Colombia, Venezuela, Syria, Sri Lanka, Sweden and Mexico with the objective of providing Aero training for people in the audio field and to bring the company and its products closer to professionals around the world.

The latest training session took place on 19 July in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, under the direction of D.A.S. Audio sound engineer Joan La Roda, together with Pham Kim, D.A.S. distributor for Vietnam, who assisted La Roda in the organization of the event.

USA - Eight GQ600 Dual Channel Graphic Equalisers from XTA Electronics are at the sonic centre of a sophisticated line array PA system designed and assembled by Sound Image and deployed by live sound specialists Star Way Productions. The XTA GQ600 equalisers and the rest of the system are used regularly for major concert events at two of the country's leading Native American gaming and resort facilities, the Pechanga Resort & Casino and the San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino, both in Southern California.

Italy - Even from a considerable distance, travellers near the city of Ravenna, on the main road along Italy's Adriatic coast to Venice, can see a huge Ferris wheel on the horizon: this is the landmark of one of the country's best-known amusement parks - Mirabilandia.

UK - On 25 July, the government launched the final consultation on implementing the 'producer responsibility' aspects of the WEEE Directive - the EU-led initiative that affects all manufacturers by making them responsible for paying for the treatment and recycling of products at the end of their life.

PLASA - the main body representing the manufacturers in the sector - has been active in the consultation process and is now rallying members for the final time to feedback on the draft regulations before their full implementation in July next year.

UK - Birmingham-based Matthews Electronics has spent the past year systematically upgrading the ribbon of pubs and bars that make up the city's gay village, using exclusively Wharfedale loudspeakers.

At the chic Loft Lounge on Bromsgrove Street the sound is relayed via a discrete Mission Pro NXT flat panel system, from the same IAG stable as Wharfedale Pro. Malta - While much of the industry was ensconced in Earls Court, Denon DJ staged a spectacular European launch for its professional multimedia player and controller, the DN-HD2500, on the Mediterranean island of Malta.

Parent company D&M Professional Europe chose the location mainly because Denon DJ playback devices have a huge presence in the island's progressive DJ set-ups - thanks to the efforts of local distributor, Stefan Farrugia of Future-Tech.

Korea - Recently built, the five hundred-seat Jung Sung Po Temple is situated on South Korea's second largest island, Keo Je Do, which is joined to the mainland by a bridge. The temple is part of the Chon Tae Order, a new Buddhist movement that promotes patriotism, Buddhism in daily life and the teachings of Buddha for the common man. USA - A crowd estimated by police to be 500,000 strong celebrated Independence Day at and around Boston's Hatch Shell, an outdoor concert venue adjacent to the Charles River, by listening to the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and Aerosmith rockers Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. Scorpio Sound provided concert audio services for the event, including JBL Vertec line array systems.

In addition to the massive onsite live audience, millions of viewers also watched the July 4th event with a one-hour television special broadcast over the CBS television network. USA - The Rolling Stones have invited hip-hop superstar Kanye West to join the first three dates of their North American tour this month. West will be bringing his unique rapping style and an AKG Acoustics WMS 4000 Wireless System to The Rolling Stones A Bigger Bang world tour for several dates.

Over the past year, Kanye West has been noted for using AKG Acoustics microphone products for his live show performances. During last year's Touch the Sky tour, West used an AKG WMS 4000 Wireless System with C 5900 M condenser capsule to deliver his high-energy performances.

Tremendous interest was generated by the introduction of eight new models in the Lab.gruppen line, says the company, with the FP+ Series catching the attention of a variety of potential customers from major sound rental companies to theatre and AV specialists.

USA - Pro Sound Service installed JBL Vertec line arrays and AE Series loudspeakers at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, MA for the 2006 summer concert and event season.

The Tweeter Center is a 19,900-seat outdoor venue with a covered, roofed section of about 7,500 seats with the balance in an open seating area. A wall at the back of the seating area separates it from the community. The new sound reinforcement system to serve the lawn area was designed and installed by Pro Sound Service, a 16-year-old firm that has been providing repair and maintenance on the venue's existing system for 10 years.

Sweden - Power amplifier designer and manufacturer, Lab.gruppen, celebrated the company's most successful year ever, and the launch of the new FP+ Series and line-extending C Series amplifiers, by inviting its worldwide distributors to Kungsbacka, Sweden, for the first ever Lab.gruppen distributor conference. The event was held pre-Plasa in early September and more than 45 distributors made the journey to the factory.

Australia - Jands Production Services (JPS), Australia's largest sound rental company, has made a significant upgrade to its monitor systems, including the purchase of 12 Clair Bros Audio (CBA) custom Dolby Lake Processors. The units feature proprietary software and custom CBA presets not available in the standard Dolby Lake Processors.

Additionally, JPS purchased 48 new Crown MA3600 amplifiers and added an extra 32 Clair Bros Audio 12AM monitor wedges to its already extensive CBA speaker inventory. The new monitor racks debuted in September on a national concert tour by the Australian electro-rock band, Rogue Traders. Monitor engineer Ben Shapiro commented: "This is the best monitor system I have ever heard. They sound absolutely fantastic. After I ran the 12AMs with the new Clair Dolby Lake Processor presets, I left my outboard equalizers back at the shop!"
