UK - Loudspeaker manufacturer Logic System Pro Audio has announced the appointment of two new staff members. Ade Hardy, who has joined the company from the Birmingham office of Logic dealer LMC Audio, takes on the role of sales manager. Also joining the company, in an R&D support role is Chris Turner, who has joined from Sheffield-based Academy of Sound. Turner has a background in electronics and will bring additional skills which complement the existing R&D team.

Staff changes are completed with the appointment of existing production manager Sue Ellis to the role of operations director. USA - As QSC's newly appointed global sales manager, Greg McLagan will begin lending direction to the company's worldwide sales efforts. A well-known and respected industry veteran who has logged over a decade with QSC in a number of sales and marketing positions, McLagan comes to the post with plans for increasing QSC's global market share.

"In one sense, mine is a building mission of sorts," McLagan commented."QSC has dedicated a lot of resources to the development of new products outside of its amplifier lines. Now, with the DSP, loudspeaker, network control and signal transport technologies we've added to our catalogue well on their way to becoming established here in the US, it's time to build the presence of these systems in the rest of the world too. As part of this expanded international commitment, we'll also be offering added support to both distributors

UK - beyerdynamic (GB) has recently supplied Crawley-based Advanced Digital Solutions - an integrated systems provider - with its sophisticated MCW-D wireless digital conferencing system for use in the conference chambers of Southampton City Councils.

Southampton's Civic Centre contains all the local government administration departments, as well as a spectacular purpose-built conference chamber. Advanced Digital Solutions were contacted earlier in the year to propose a conference system that would be effective, aesthetic and fall within the budget set for the upgrade. Hardest of all was the caveat that the conference benches should not have cables or equipment fixed to them and that installation was to be non-invasive to preserve the integrity of the installed furniture.

Paul Langridge of Advanced Digital Solutions said: "This project was a natural choice for beyerdynami

UK - The launch of a second generation CM Series loudspeakers at PLASA 2003 completes a product development cycle for the Logic System brand, whose first generation products were launched at PLASA 1998. The company's sales manager Ade Hardy commented: "The launch of the new CM Series gives us one of the most complete product ranges in the pro audio industry and lets us compete in a diverse range of markets. The great thing about my job is that I don't really have to sell the product, I just need to get it under peoples noses, from there the product sells its self."

Logic System's new CM boxes benefit from cosmetic changes - to bring them in line with the rest of the product range - and from upgraded cone and compression drivers. The product mix for the range, which is principally intended for stage monitoring, will remain the same with co-axial 12" + 1", 15&q

USA - QSC Audio has introduced the new SRA (Studio Reference Amplifier) Series. Based on the company's flagship DCA Digital Cinema Series, the SRA Series brings QSC's 'Power Behind the Pictures' audio standard to environments such as recording studios, film and video post-production facilities, boardrooms, and high-end residential installations, say the company.

The three SRA models, ranging from 200W per channel to 725W per channel at 8 ohms, are designed to offer the professional cinema reference standards of the DCA series, with performance optimized for demanding production and residential applications. The SRA Series is packed with features designed to meet the specialized needs of critical listening environments, say QSC, such as a very quiet variable speed fan which is virtually inaudible at low signal levels, individually addressable clip limiters and subsonic filters, b

Ireland - Irish PA company, Nolan Sound & Light, have purchased a Nexo GEO S Tangent Array System for use on the next leg of the Daniel O'Donnell tour in the UK. Proprietor Alan Nolan confirmed the order with Irish Nexo/Crown distributor Rea Sound after the Irish singing legend had been impressed with the system - particularly the large CD18 subs - when he performed through it in the States.

Nolan Sound & Light, his long-time PA provider, had earlier experienced the Nexo GEO S system closer to home when visiting Millennium Forum Theatre in Derry with another act, and played through Rea Sound's newly-supplied house system. Alan Nolan explained what had motivated him to make the investment. "Whenever I brought Daniel to the British mainland we always ended up sub-hiring the Nexo kit in - which simply wasn't cost-effective."

And so he ordered 32 GEO S805s and a pair of

UK - Autograph Sound Recording is using LLW LDS700 ribbon loudspeakers on a production of Stephen Sondheim's Pacific Overtures at the Donmar Warehouse. The musical, which continues Autograph's long relationship with the theatre, chronicles the arrival of an American expedition on the Japanese island of Nippon in 1853, changing its way of life forever.

"Pacific Overtures is a fantastic musical which requires subtle amplification," says Autograph sound designer Nick Lidster. "Choosing a loudspeaker system for this type of reinforcement, while providing the auditorium with even, 360-degree coverage is extremely difficult. These problems are made worse at the Donmar as it has no obvious loudspeaker rigging positions, and this particular production is unusual because it is performed in-the-round, with the stage in the centre of the theatre."

Germany - In the second weekend of August, the Museums Insel (museum island) in Berlin saw (or more accurately 'heard') the first appearance of Alcons Audio's 'The Ribbon' line array system. Its debut came at the museum's annual festival, which takes place on the museum island in Berlin, and features a range of concerts.

Götz Berge, owner of Lichtwerk Berlin who were responsible for the lighting and sound elements of the event, commented: "With a concert stage in the centre of Berlin, and especially in a cultural place like the Museums Insel, we've had to deal with a lot of specific requirements for the audio specification. A number of problems had to be addressed, including limited SPL leakage to surrounding buildings and the fact that SPL inside the adjacent Berliner Dom (Berlin Dome) had to be as low as 50dB. At the same time, sound pressure on the concert ground itself

UK - A Shropshire audio-visual company has re-launched its website with an online facility aimed specifically at DJs wanting to purchase new equipment.

Telford-based BK Sound & Vision Ltd specializes in the hire of audio equipment, computer projectors, video recorders, stage and theatre lighting and public address systems. The website, however, concentrates on selling DJ tools - everything from headphones, microphones and record cases, to turntables, mixing desks, lighting and portable public address systems. BK director Colin Willacy decided to offer online purchasing having noticed a change in the market. "Initially BK was only a hire company supplying AV equipment to local businesses and hotels. In the last two years, there has been a shift towards sales caused mainly by the ever-falling purchase price of electronic equipment. Our new website reflects this, offering qual

UK - The first Nexo GEO S system to be installed in the UK or Ireland was finally commissioned in the Millennium Forum, Derry, by Rea Sound (NI) Ltd. The theatre's technical manager, Jim Nelis, was demonstrated a number of key sound systems, but ultimately chose the Nexo GEO series for the clarity and quality of sound throughout the auditorium.

This 800-plus seated auditorium required a sound system that would cope with the wide range of uses, from poetry recitals to modern pop and rock bands, from local school productions to West End extravaganzas. With the GEO system the theatre is able to provide a high quality sound system previously lacking in Ireland's largest purpose built theatre. Rea Sound (NI) Ltd, the Irish Nexo dealer, installed the system, consisting of seven GEO S805, one GEO S830 and a pair of CD12 sub each side of the stage.

UK - Arbiter Pro Audio has supplied Liverpool-based Over Audio with JBL speakers for the Ministry of Sound's substantial refit. The project, at the world famous London nightclub, involves extensive building works and wide-ranging technical upgrades.

In the main bar area, the existing JBL SP128S subwoofers have been upgraded with four of the new horn-loaded units from JBL's AE range - the ASH6118. Arbiter Pro Audio's Andy Duffield said: "The single 18" driver within these units is extremely efficient due to the 14ft folded horn inside the cabinet. Given the coupling effect of having the cabinets stacked as they are, the result is a formidable partnership with the existing VerTec Line Array system in this bar."

As part of the upgrade, two new exclusive private rooms have been developed within the VIP area, both of which have the JBL SMS1 Soundzone Music System pro

With their roots in broadcast and DJ consoles, Dateq, based in The Netherlands, now also designs products for the installation market. Initially we will be focusing on Dateq's sound limiters and MusiCall paging and audio routing system."

The MusiCall system is an audio matrix available in three formats: 8 mono/8 stereo/16 stereo audio source inputs routing through to 8 mono/8 stereo/16 stereo audio output zones respectively for amplifiers, or loudspeaker systems in, for example, a 100V system. MusiCall comes with a central control unit and can be eas

UK - Arbiter Pro Audio has supplied Edinburgh-based SI Sound and Light with JBL 25AV speakers for a new multi-purpose installation at The Traverse Theatre bar. SI Sound & Light's Neil Silver designed and specified the sound system. The challenge was in making it affordable whilst also covering the Traverse's large bar area. Silver chose 16 JBL Control 25Avs. They are rigged in the shallow mesh roof running right across the top of the bar area and attached to the grid via custom mountings. Silver commented: "Control 25AVs are an ideal sized and sounding speaker for the environment."

The Netherlands - August 2nd 2003 brought over 40,000 dance fans to Spaarnwoude, just outside Amsterdam, to enjoy a line-up of the world's finest DJs featuring Sasha & Digweed, Tiesto, Deep Dish, Sister Bliss and Yoji Biomehanika.

Allen & Heath played an important role as Xone mixers were installed in a number of stages. Those DJs who were particularly conscious about sound quality specifically asked for a Xone console. Amongst them was Carl Cox, who hosted his own stage and formed a line-up featuring other big names, including the techno pioneers Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May. Cox specifically asked for the Xone:62, not only for the sound quality, but for its "wicked'' filter section as well.

However, the biggest surprise was shown backstage in the 'DJ headquarters', a hospitality area showing new DJ techniques and equipment, as the brand new Xone:V6 EQ Isolator was o

UK - Christian band '100 hours' have put their faith in professional audio developer Mackie Designs with a recent investment in brand new equipment to help bring their blend of music and praise to live audiences across the UK. "When we decided to do the live record, we knew we needed a few things from the gear we chose for the project," says band front man, Tré Sheppard. "Quality was paramount because the recordings are for commercial release and it had to be easy to use in a festival situation, there is so little time to set up gear, and the various FOH guys we work with don't need another complicated piece of gear to figure out in the midst of sound check madness! It also had to be reliable because we don't have time to check everything twice, we just want to hit record and capture the live magic without having to think too much about it. If any of those factors

UK - Mipro is leading its competitors by creating a variety of new designs, satisfying user requirements with professional quality at sensible prices. The company have adopted international EIA standard 19" rack half-rack metal frame. LED panels ensure that receiving channels are clearer, featuring RF/AF signal metering. This is unlike the more common mono LCD panel and enables the user to identify information and thus operate more easily.

Adopting UHF PLL-synthesized diversity reception, with Pilotone and NoiseLock dual-squelch control, guarantees a longer operating range and also eliminates signal dropout and unstable reception, whilst avoiding noise interference from karaoke machines, PC and DVD players. Noise indicators on the control panel clearly displays if a receiver is in a state of interference.

There is a [SCAN] button on the front panel, enabling the device t
