RCF have announced the launch of two new products: the Vision 151 is the latest addition to the Vision series of loudspeakers, and the AM1120 is part of the new AM1000 series of integrated mixer amplifiers.The AM1000 series has been specifically designed for transmitting announcements and/or musical programmes through all PA sound systems. The AM 1120 offers two jack inputs, selectable line/mic sensitivity, two XLR microphone inputs with 24volt DC phantom supply, one RCA stereo input, one main input, one pre-out, one tape out output. All inputs are fully balanced with XLR connectors and each input has phantom power.The Vision PA 151 loudspeaker is a short-throw unit that can be used as a standard passive enclosure or in bi-amped configuration. The PA 151 includes a 15" LF transducer in combination with a 1" compression driver loaded on a 90 x 75 degree CD horn.

In a move aimed at strengthening the sales department in both its technical and administrative functions, Fuzion has appointed Tim Harrison to take on the role of technical sales support. Harrison has a strong product knowledge gained during three years at Raper and Wayman. On the administrative side, meanwhile, Fuzion has appointed Natasha Dawson, who joins as PA to the sales director, Paul Ward. Dawson has previously worked as a PA in the City, including a stint with a US stockbroker. She is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the sales and marketing function with the exception of specific sales order processing, which is ably looked after by Steve O'Neill.

The first Soundcraft FIVE Monitor console has been ordered by Finland's largest sound rental company, Eastway. The Helsinki-based company operates a mainly EAW-based rental stock, which is used primarily in Finland's busy summer festival season. The Series FIVE Monitor was chosen for its versatility, as it can be used for front-of-house and monitoring, and is also well-suited to in-ear monitoring – a popular choice among Finnish musicians.

Celtus, who have been support band on the recent UK tour by Deacon Blue, have been using two Spirit Digital 328s mixing consoles supplied by EFX as a major part of their front-of-house set-up. For FOH engineer Mat Miller, the opening show of the tour was the first time he had used the 328. He spoke very highly of its on-board dynamics and Lexicon effects, as well as other useful features such as the recall facilities. As a first-time user, he commented: "It can only be testament to how easy the board was to use that my only worries as doors opened were to do with how far away catering was."

Blitz Communications' sound division, TP Sound, has been contracted to take the touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar on the continental leg of its European tour in January 2000. Front-of-house control for the production is from a 56-channel Amek recall console, running Showtime automation software. A Yamaha ProMix 01 is used as an effects submixer, while effects playback is sourced from a pair of Denon DN990R MiniDisc players. 38 channels of Sennheiser EM 1046 UHF receivers are used, visually linked to the FOH position by the company's remote monitoring system. Cast members are fitted with Sennheiser's MKE2 and DPA Microphones' 4060 head-worn mics, with SK50 beltpack transmitters.EAW's KF300 full-range cabinets provide the reinforcement, along with a pair of KF850s and four SB625 subs, with amplification from Yamaha and Crown. JBL Control 1s are used for effects and delays.

Canford Audio has launched a new sourcing service alongside their new-look year 2000 catalogue. The new service, called Canford Plus, will run in conjunction with the existing service now to be called Canford Express. The new service aims to provide a 'one stop shop' solution, whereby customers can order almost any product, whether or not it is in the Canford catalogue.The Plus service team will include sales, technical and customer service personnel, and will be dedicated to sourcing their customers' requirements. Canford believe customers will benefit for a number of reasons, including the simplified payments and shortened waiting times.

C Audio amplification has been installed at Fantasy Island, Europe's biggest indoor amusement park, situated in Ingoldmells near Skegness. The units are used to power the loudspeaker system within the live entertainment area from late afternoon and throughout the evening. The need for powerful sound reinforcement is clear, as the stage itself is housed within the huge glass pyramid structure of the park, together with the background noise associated with a myriad of fairground rides.Fantasy Island's Tufty Gordon turned to Rob Walker of Blacklight International, whose experience of this type of installation was already known to him. He specified four JBL 300W full-range cabinets with two 600W sub-bass units, to be powered by two C Audio GB 602 amplifiers, all purchased through Arbiter Group plc.

Gearhouse Australia, will be supplying turnkey operational facilities for major German broadcaster ARD/ZDF at the Sydney Olympics next year. Stephen Chadwick, general manager of the company's Broadcast division, said of the project: "Each day, the Gearhouse facilities will produce more than 30 hours of programmes that will be screened in Germany through two free-to-air stations and one paid service. We are obviously delighted to be supporting one of the world's lading broadcasters." This latest deal brings the total value of Gearhouse Australia's Olympics contracts to more than $10m.

The rapidly-expanding Fiddlers Pub Company has recently installed Xtra Music satellite systems into six of its premises in North London. The recent AES Convention in New York saw the first Stateside sales of the new BSS FDS-366 Omnidrive Compact Plus, with the first six units being sold to On Stage Audio of Chicago, through Mike Flynn of Sound Marketing.Thomas Nicks of On Stage Audio commented on the purchase: "We have worked with BSS products for the last few years, and when Mike Flynn and Paul Freudenberg (of BSS USA) showed us the specification for the new FDS-366 earlier this year we instantly decided to place an order. The huge advantages of the system are the 96kHz sampling rate, the addition of a third auxiliary input and the ability to use the unit with the BSS Soundbench PC control software."Several further sales announced at the AES Convention included the sale of four units to the Hit Factory in Florida.

London-based rental company, Entec Sound & Light has invested in several pieces of equipment from Klark Teknik to complete the inventory for the last leg of a European tour by British band Skunk Anansie. The equipment includes a complete Klark Teknik DN3600 programmable graphic EQ system supplied by Shuttlesound, and Midas XL-4 and Heritage 3000 mixing desks courtesy of LMC Audio.

Gemini Sound Products has launched the CDJ-10 professional CD player, a small, top-loading, frame accurate CD player featuring a variable pitch control of +/- 16%, three time display modes, reverse and forward stutter, cue function and continuous play mode. Also new from Gemini is the Scoop series of loudspeaker enclosures, which include single 15", double 15" and sub-bass units.

A tri-amped Martin Audio THX system has been specified for the feature cinema at the three-screen York City Screen cinema. Arranged in L-C-R configuration, the three-way system includes three Screen 5s and a pair of Screen Sub 2s, with 16 Effect 5s for the surround sound. Amplification is from QSC. The system is accompanied by the new THX-SG01 digital crossover, which is tailored to the speaker type as well as to the positions of the speakers in the auditorium. The system was installed by South London-based cinema specialist, Future Projections.

The first week of November proved to be a busy time for London-based sales and hire company, Eskimo Noise, supplying both Warp Records 10th Birthday Celebrations and The London Borough of Islington's Firework display. For the Warp Records event, the main speaker system was part of Eskimo's extensive Nexo Alpha inventory, comprising seven M3s, 15 B1s and six S2s (28 Alpha boxes for 1000 people - loud!!). As usual the system was powered by Crown MA3600VZ and MA5000VZ amps. FOH desk was a Yamaha PM4000 with mainly BSS inserts and the usual eclectic mix of FXs gigs such as this demand. The monitor system was Eskimo's favourite Nexo PS-15s driven by Crown MA3600VZs all controlled by a Soundcraft SM12. At the Islington bash, Eskimo placed several stations of Nexo Alpha around the park that - all delayed to a point directly in front of the firework launching compound. A total 48 Alpha cabinets

Allen & Heath have announced the availability of an upgrade to the new V2.0 control software for their I-CON DP1000 and DL1000 digital live mixers. The console's internal compressors and gates can now be viewed on a per-channel basis, providing more editable parameters for precision control. Extra effects presets have been added to the FX1 internal processor, while FX2's reverbs have benefited from an overhaul. Footpedal control of the effects processors has been improved to cover any parameter or channel volume. HB Litherland, of Blackpool, was recently named Audio-Technica 'UK Distributor of The Year' for the 1998-99 period. Rod Geary and Tony Cooper for Audio-Technica presented the award to HBL's John Exton and Alan Davidson during the recent HBL exhibition at Haydock Park. In a separate presentation, Audio-Technica presented its Music Dealer of the Year award to Music Village. The award presentation (pictured) took place during the recent PLASA Show at Earls Court. Audio-Technica's Rod Geary and Justin Frost hand over the award to Music Village managing director, John Dacosta and marketing director, Ray Edwards.

Tannoy Dual Concentric loudspeakers have been specified for Shino's - a new Italian restaurant located in the old GLC building in Westminster. Designed for low-level background music such as jazz and acoustic piano, the system was installed by London-based Steeland Systems. It included eight i8 speakers in the 90-seat main dining area, sprayed white to blend with the light, airy decor, while accompanying bass bins are hidden behind radiator covers. The outside seating area is covered by two i6 weatherproof Dual Concentric loudspeakers, while the downstairs toilets, kitchens and staff areas are covered by Tannoy ceiling speakers.

Tannoy Professional has appointed Neil Law as its new area sales manager for the northern United Kingdom. Law has over seven years' experience in audio sales, having joined the Tannoy team from the Tascam division of TEAC UK. His primary role will be to develop the sound reinforcement side of the business and help promote a strong portfolio of enhanced products.

Pending a decision following the recent departure of the Klark Teknik Group's managing director Davis Merrey, the company has been left in the capable hands of vice-president of sales and marketing, Bob Doyle. Doyle will take on the mantle of acting managing director at the company's UK base in Kidderminster until more permanent arrangements are made in the early part of next year.Doyle said: "Once Dave had made the decision to go, it became clear that filling the breach at short notice was likely to prove difficult, hence the mutual decision to leave the task to me for the time being. Once we've settled down into the New Year we'll be in a better position to devote our full attention to finding the right solution."

London-based Orbital Sound have supplied Pola Productions with a complex sound system designed by Rick Clarke, comprising d&b and EAW loudspeakers, 22 Trantec S5000 radio microphones, an Amek Recall mixing desk and a battery of remotely-controlled XTA DP226 delay/ EQ units, for their latest West End Musical, Spend, Spend, Spend, starring Barbara Dickson.Tim Sharrett, Orbital's technical support manager, devised an innovative solution (by broadening the application of wireless network links) for sound designers to control the accuracy of equalisation, delay and levels of any speaker within the auditorium. Multi-zone systems can also be simply accessed, even with the audience in place. This makes it possible to tune and realign the speakers in real time, giving increased control, precision and ultimately the best sound quality. In an important and complex communications system, British Aerospace has taken delivery of beyerdynamic DT 109 headsets and an ASL wired intercom system for use in a test bay configured for software development work on Tornado fighter aircraft. The ASL system was chosen for its clarity and ease of operation and due to background noise levels from fans and aircraft systems, the DT 109 headsets provide an ideal communication environment between the control room and the development floor. All the equipment was supplied and specified through beyerdynamic (UK) Ltd who are the UK distributors for the Dutch manufacturer ASL.

PLASA Publishing has received news that a winding up order has been served on Metro Audio. The company, well known for its wired intercom and stage management systems, is now in the hands of the Official Receivers Office, which is currently working on establishing a full list of creditors. Although the company is trading as Metro Audio, the order, which went through the High Court on November 17th, relates to Speed 1436 Ltd - the company's official registered name.

Bourgonje Sound & Lighting Services, based in The Hague, recently provided a Turbosound system for a series of talks given by the Dalai Lama on his visit to The Netherlands. The Buddhist leader talked of 'The Power of Kindness' to an accumulative audience o 9,000 at the Dutch Congress Centre. Bourgonje, the main rental supplier of sound and lighting equipment for the venue, specified 16 stacks of Turbosound Floodlight TFL-760H with TSW-721s, eight Turbosound HiLight THL-4 enclosures for in-fill and monitoring supplied by six Turbosound TCS-12Ms. Control for the system, as well as EQ and delay, was provided with a BSS Soundweb.

Blast!, a new musical extravaganza, will receive its world premier this month, at Hammersmith's London Apollo, with an intricate sound and communications system supplied and installed by Autograph Sound Recording.Blast! is a spectacular show bringing together a cast of 70 young brass, percussion and visual performers. Autograph's Bobby Aitken, the co-sound designer for Blast!, chose a loudspeaker system comprising of Meyer Sound MSL-4s, UPA-1s, UM-1s and EAW JF80s. The MSL-4s make up the core of the front-of-house system with the rest of the loudspeakers being used for monitoring, delays and surround sound effects. The speakers are powered by Lab Gruppen amplifiers. 40 Sennheiser radio microphone channels are used on stage and a selection of around 60 percussion microphones are also employed.
