Germany - ETC's new Eos lighting control system has won the Showtech 2007 trade show's Product Award for Lighting and Projection. This award is the second such honour for the Eos, which took the Product of the Year Award for debuting product when the desk was introduced last autumn at LDI. But the Showtech award is the first ever European award for an ETC desk and marks ETC's strong presence in the European entertainment lighting market, says the company.

ETC's CEO Fred Foster, who accepted the trophy at the Showtech ceremony, says, "We are extremely proud to have Eos recognised in the German market by this award. Eos will be a very powerful tool for the lighting designers and lighting programmers in theatres, television studios and events."

Canada / UK - Cast's latest version of Wysiwyg, R20 offers more tools, smaller file sizes, improved images, broader compatibility, support for Windows Vista and more. The company says that with the compression in R20, every new file will start off up to 10 times smaller than in previous releases, which means faster loading time and the ability to email even complex Wysiwyg files to clients and team members.

R20 also features a range of new 'Merge Objects' tools, which include such actions as Subtraction (subtracting one object from another), Union (uniting two objects into one), and Intersection (the tricky operation of merging two objects and then deleting everything outside of their common area, or intersecting point). R20 also allows users to choose from a series of pre-defined line thicknesses (weights), an

USA - Elation has brought DMX control into the wireless realm with the introduction of the EWDMX system. Consisting of a transmitter and one or more receivers, the revolutionary wireless DMX control system completely eliminates the need for DMX cables at a range of up to 3,000 feet - more than half a mile, says the company.

The EWDMXT wireless transmitter easily connects to a DMX-512 controller via 3-pin or 5-pin XLR plugs. The transmitter sends all DMX data from the controller to the EWDMXR wireless receiver, which can be linked via XLR directly into the first light fixture in the DMX daisy chain. One EWDMXT transmitter can be used with up to 1,000 EWDMXR receivers, so user can easily expand or slim down their wireless DMX control systems to fit virtually any lighting setup.

"People are amazed at how reliably and flawlessly the EWDMX system operates when they see it in a

Australia - Enttec has launched the new RDS range of RDM/DMX splitters. The release consists of the RDS4 - a 1-in, 4-out standalone/truss mount splitter, and the RDS8 - a 1-in, 8-out rackmount splitter. Both splitters are fully compatible with standard DMX equipment, as well as offering support for RDM enabled consoles and fixtures, and have isolation up to 1500v between every input and output port.

RDM allows bidirectional communication between control equipment, such as consoles and software, and RDM enabled fixtures, such as moving lights and LED fixtures. Standard DMX splitters will not allow RDM equipment to function correctly, as they do not allow for messages to be passed back from fixtures to console.

The RDS Splitters pass all RDM information back and forth between the console and fixtures, allowing RDM features such as remote addressing, reporting of lamp hours etc t

USA - The green movement is in full swing at American DJ with the introduction of three new 4.9mW DMX-512 green lasers - the Emerald Sky, Emerald Scan II and Mini Emerald Beam.

"Green lasers are what everyone wants right now - their shorter wavelength makes them appear much brighter than red laser beams and they travel farther," said Scott Davies, general manager of the American DJ Group of Companies. "But unfortunately green lasers are also harder to make than red lasers and require a special diode, which has often put them out of reach price-wise for DJs and smaller clubs.

"American DJ has been constantly working to bring down the cost of green lasers," added Davies. "These new additions to our Emerald series make it more affordable than ever to put on a dazzling green laser show."

Emerald Sky is a twin green laser effect with dual 4.9mW

UK - A new technical writing service for the professional audio, AV and related industries has been launched by two well known industry figures, Craig Lovell and Mick Boggis.

Based in Milton Keynes, IMS Technical Publications is able to offer a range of document services from simple text generation to full layout, graphic design and publication to print and electronic media. IMS Technical Publications claim that their many years of industry experience allow them to "provide a user's viewpoint of a product, something that many manufacturers have a problem with, especially after a long R&D phase".

According to Lovell and Boggis, the motivation for the new venture comes from what they see as a need to provide manufacturers with an alternative and more effective solution to generating technical documentation. "A manufacturer will frequently spend much time and effor

Denmark - The LC Series from Martin Professional is a semi-transparent, modular system of lightweight LED panels (40 mm pixel pitch), designed for displaying film, digital images and graphics.

As the LC units are semi-transparent, they can be used in an array of applications and allow the seamless integration of moving images, lighting and set design, says the company. The panels can move through a range of intensity, from a solid wall of images and colour to near-invisibility and allow light, air, and effects to pass through.

The variety and depth of achievable colours in the LC series, combined with a brilliant output, allows the accurate broadcast of digital media, which remains true to the source formatting and the colour and intensity of other lights in the design.

Although useful in a wide variety of applications, the LC series is specially prepared for video and TV ap

USA - The new EAW UX8800 is a 4-input by 8-output digital signal processor that brings the company's Gunness Focusing technology to an ever-increasing number of conventional EAW loudspeakers, with true dual-mode capability making it equally adept as a loudspeaker processor or an overall system processor, says the company.

Gunness Focusing involves the application of sophisticated, custom DSP algorithms designed specifically to correct loudspeaker response anomalies. The result is the elimination of the time smear, horn "honk" and low-frequency cone resonances that plague conventional reinforcement system designs.

In addition, the UX8800 is intimately linked to both EAW Smaart and EAW FChart acoustic measurement and analysis platforms.

In the UX8800's loudspeaker processor mode, the user can establish up to four individual loudspeaker specific processing units, each

UK - Following a request from a Scandinavian shipping line for a giant mirror ball to be installed permanently on a cruise liner, Light Engineering's range of British-made heavy duty rotators has been further improved, the company says.

Still retaining the 'stepped' shaft design and extra efficient steel ball, thrust bearing, they now include the addition of an "Iglidur" flange bearing, secured by a specially machined aluminium block. With the extra lateral support this new additional bearing provides for the output shaft and gearbox, they can now be used in almost any orientation, even allowing for the possible extremes of pitch and roll experienced on a passenger liner.

All are still designed to incorporate a factor of safety (FOS) of at least 10:1 and use only tested and certificated shackles and couplings. Including a jaw-to-jaw swivel on each that acts as a clut

France - Analog Way has launched its latest controller, the Axion. This new high end controller, says the company, is the synthesis of 18 years of experience in the Pro AV market and intensive research among major players in the rental and staging industries.
