Graham Thomas has now joined Artistic Licence as sales director based at the company's new regional office in Leeds. As the former European product manager for Color Kinetics while at Lighting Technology, he has an intimate knowledge of the new LED-based products developed by Artistic Licence.
In a move aimed at strengthening the sales department in both its technical and administrative functions, Fuzion has appointed Tim Harrison to take on the role of technical sales support. Harrison has a strong product knowledge gained during three years at Raper and Wayman. On the administrative side, meanwhile, Fuzion has appointed Natasha Dawson, who joins as PA to the sales director, Paul Ward. Dawson has previously worked as a PA in the City, including a stint with a US stockbroker. She is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the sales and marketing function with the exception of specific sales order processing, which is ably looked after by Steve O'Neill.
Industry veteran Paul Sonnleitner has joined High End Systems as Director of Special Projects - East Coast, to be based in the new East Coast sales, support and training facility opening early next year in New York City. Sonnleitner is a well-respected lighting programmer who entered the lighting industry as a technician on the touring production of Sesame Street in the early 90s. In 1995 he moved to New York and debuted on Broadway working with Paul Gallo on Big, programming the Wholehog II. He has since worked on countless Broadway shows including Titanic, Civil War, Scarlet Pimpernel, and others. He also has gained significant exposure lighting mammoth corporate displays at events including Comdex and E3.
Following our recent news that John Adams is to leave High End Systems, Bob Schacherl, president of High End Systems, has told us: "John's departure from HES was a result of our transitioning his position as international sales and operations director over to our European headquarters in London. John was not able to relocate back to the UK due to his desire to remain in the United States."Adams, High End's international sales and operations director, has been with the Texas-based manufacturer for six years.
Tannoy Professional has appointed Neil Law as its new area sales manager for the northern United Kingdom. Law has over seven years' experience in audio sales, having joined the Tannoy team from the Tascam division of TEAC UK. His primary role will be to develop the sound reinforcement side of the business and help promote a strong portfolio of enhanced products.
Pending a decision following the recent departure of the Klark Teknik Group's managing director Davis Merrey, the company has been left in the capable hands of vice-president of sales and marketing, Bob Doyle. Doyle will take on the mantle of acting managing director at the company's UK base in Kidderminster until more permanent arrangements are made in the early part of next year.Doyle said: "Once Dave had made the decision to go, it became clear that filling the breach at short notice was likely to prove difficult, hence the mutual decision to leave the task to me for the time being. Once we've settled down into the New Year we'll be in a better position to devote our full attention to finding the right solution."
After three years as PSL's head of concert touring, Chris Mounsor has left to specialise in more project-based work within the concert touring industry. Mounsor leaves PSL's concert touring business in the capable hands of Des Fallon, assisted by Scott Russell and Stephanie Jefcoate. Currently PSL (Presentation Services Ltd) are out on tour with Steps, B*witched, Boyzone, Lord of the Dance, Whitney Houston, Everything But the Girl, The Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Nine Inch Nails and The Spice Girls. PSL would like to wish Chris every success in the future.
Giant screen sales and rental specialists, Unitek, has announced the expansion of its sales force.Roger Macnair, whose background was in plasma screens and LCD projectors, joined Unitek's screen sales team in September and has already successfully contracted projects including a sale to the Hilton Hotel group in Africa. Reacting to a substantial increase in rental activities, Unitek have also recruited Anita Page, previously sales and marketing manager at Screenco, who will be primarily concentrating on sales and marketing for the company's music and special events. Adrian Offord, previously with lighting hire company Playlight, also joined the rental team in November.
After 27 years of dedicated service within the professional audio industry (23 of those with Electro-Voice - the last nine as president), Paul McGuire has announced his retirement. His official resignation took effect this past summer, but he will stay on as a management consultant to Telex until February 2000. McGuire has not ruled out a new business venture, and is currently looking into where his 'retirement' may take him.
Total Audio Solutions has appointed Adam Heath as sales and marketing director to its growing team of audio specialists. Heath comes to TAS from Sony Broadcast and Professional Europe, where he was the product manager for professional audio products including MiniDisc and signal processing. Trained as an electronics engineer, Heath has worked in the professional audio industry for seven years.
Michael Irwin has replaced Christian Choi as the friendly voice of technical support at California-based AC Lighting Inc. Irwin will answer all programming- and software-related questions regarding the WYSIWYG range of programs, the grandMA lighting control console from MA Lighting, along with the Jands and Zero 88 product lines.
Roy Wemyss, the chief executive officer and president of US-based Mackie Designs, resigned from the company in November. Mackie say that Wemyss will remain on the board of directors and continue to play a part in the ongoing strategy and development of the company.
At the same time as the announcement that Metro Tyrell is to remain with the WPP Group (see Business News) PLASA Publishing has learnt of several high level appointments at the company. Simon Brett, formerly of Avid Technology and Discreet Logic, has taken on the role of joint managing director, alongside Stephen Payne. Brian Little, formerly regional sales manager for Avid Technology, will head up the company's second office, which will open in Manchester during 2000. Andy Wilde, also formerly of Avid Technology, will work with Little as the North's product specialist and support manager.
Barry Seiden has joined New York-based Gem Sound as director of sales and marketing. Seiden has spent over 20 years in the pro lighting and sound industry, having worked as a DJ, retailer, manufacturer and sales representative. He has worked for companies such as Denon, Numark, Ness and Gemini Sound Products.
Strand Lighting has appointed Phil O'Donnell to the new position of group sales and marketing director. O'Donnell has spent 25 years in the industry, 20 of them with Strand, and has recently been responsible for Strand's operations in the Americas and Asia. The development is aimed at improving co-ordination across all Strand companies globally, and to provide a closer liaison with R&D in the creation of new product.
One of the country's leading PA distributors, R.W. Salt Communications, has started off the new Year with the appointment of the man they call, 'Mr PA', Harry Greenaway, with responsibility for the company's key distributor accounts. Bob Salt commented: "For the few who don't know Harry, I guarantee you'll always look forward to his next visit. He is a man who may not know all the answers, but he will certainly know a man who does."At the same time, RW Salt has also announced the appointment of David Holt, formerly of Willow Vale and Philips CSS, to establish and run the company's new southern office, which is due to open within the next few weeks. PA and voice alarm specialist Baldwin Boxall has expanded its sales team. John Spurling has joined the company as a country-wide systems sales executive, and will be responsible for raising awareness of voice alarm systems and all aspects of the company's Vigil systems. Spurling joins Baldwin Boxall from Millbank, where he spent five years as southern region sales manager.
PLASA EXCLUSIVE: PLASA Publishing has learnt that Philip Norfolk is to leave Lighting Technology after 12 years with the company. He is relocating to Chicago to take up a position with Tech Lighting, who manufacture low voltage and display lighting. Norfolk will join a team of 120 people and will run their national specification sales and special products.
Iain Elliott has left the Canford Group plc, the company he founded 23 years ago. Under Elliott's direction as chief executive, the Tyne & Wear-based company grew to become one of the UK's leading pro-audio distributors and manufacturers with a range of over 14,000 items. Elliott has not announced what he plans to do next, but has informed PLASA Publishing that he is not departing the pro-audio industry just yet!
Production Resource Group recently announced the promotion of Jeff Senkovich to executive vice president of the PRG Audio Group. He will be responsible for all operations within the working closely with Lew Mead, president of the PRG Audio Group, on operations. Senkovich joined PRG in June 1997 after 13 years as a project executive and general manager of the special projects division of a construction company, for which he led all theme park, themed retail, teleproduction and production facility construction projects.
Following our recent news that Iain Elliott had departed the Canford Group, the company has announced the appointment of a new chief executive, Lawrence Jackson, previously managing director of Farnell. Group chairman Hugh Morgan Williams told PLASA Publishing: "Canford has come a long way since 1976 and the board of directors sees Lawrence's appointment as one which will lead us into the future, whilst safeguarding the basic principles upon which Canford was founded."
Sony Broadcast & Professional Europe has appointed Rob Sherman as head of its Large Screen Display Group. His career with Sony spans 11 years: he spent four in the Middle East, working to establish a Sony division in the region, followed by two years as head of Sony Broadcast & Professional in Portugal.
Bruce Jordahl has left High End Systems to become the editor of a new magazine - Pro Light and Staging News. The monthly title will address the touring and concert industries and will focus its editorial coverage principally on the US and Canadian markets.
Following the recent appointments of Tim Harrison and Natasha Dawson to the sales department, Fuzion has further increased its sales force with the addition of Mick Butler. Butler will be responsible for sales in the north of England and Scotland, with a view to expanding into the southern territories in the near future. With many years' experience in live pro audio, most recently running the PA sales department at a leading MI retailer, Butler is well placed to take on Fuzion's MI accounts, as well as helping to develop both new and existing contracting business.
