South Africa - Randburg-based AV equipment supplier Pristine Moods Productions has invested in a DiGiCo S31 and a dot2 console from South African distributor DWR Distribution.
The investment has been “a long time coming” according to Lior Manelis, owner of Pristine Moods Productions. “These kinds of steps are daunting. But as your calibre of gear increases, so does your marketing capabilities, enabling you to work on bigger events,” he explains.
Duncan Riley of DWR adds: “Both DiGiCo and MA Lighting are in the business of giving end-users longevity with products that won’t be constantly upgraded or replaced.”
Gareth Chambers, recently appointed LD at the company, will run the dot2. Chambers was previously employed by DWR Distribution in the role of training and support, and his expertise will enable him to operate the console and share his knowledge

Belgium - The organisers of the EDM festival Hype-O-Dream based this year’s event around a surrealism-inspired main stage to bring an element of the extraordinary to the EDM line-up, which included acts such as Jauz, Showtek and Henri PFR.

USA - Creative studio Obscura Digital recently worked with Vornado Realty Trust to install a permanent projection system to illuminate the façade of Chicago’s Merchandise Mart (theMART) with images reflecting Chicago’s cultural heritage.
Art on theMART will be launched with an opening ceremony on 29 September featuring original content from Obscura media team and select international artists. The reins will then be handed to theMART's curatorial team to craft two-hour projection shows five nights a week, 10 months of the year.
Art on theMART will be lit nightly by 34 projectors shining over one million lumens across the Chicago Riverwalk onto the building’s 2.5 acre façade.

The Netherlands - The ADJ Group has announced ‘the sudden passing’ of Jo Mulders (61) on 17 September.
Described as an ‘esteemed and beloved colleague’, Mulders worked for the company for over 15 years, most recently as a general manager at ADJ Group’s European headquarters in Kerkrade, The Netherlands.

UK - Robe brought a ‘theatre-meets-rock ‘n’ roll’ live show to the centre of its stand design at the 2018 PLASA Show held at London Olympia.
Putting performance at the heart of the presentation, the Czech lighting manufacturer launched its new SuperSpikie moving light.
The show also utilised other new and current Robe products, including the new RoboSpot remote follow spotting system running with MDC (multi device control) and the new iParFect, the first in a series of upcoming IP-rated luminaires.
Inspired by the Tomb Raider / Indiana Jones movie and e-games adventure genre - the show concept, The Lost World Trilogy, was originated by Robe’s own creative team led by Nathan Wan and Andy Webb.
It’s the first of three stand designs that will be rolled out by Robe at selected trade expos worldwide over the coming months.

USA - Sooner Routhier and Robert Long of SRae Productions are behind the production design for Halsey’s Hopeless Fountain Kingdom world tour, with Ashley Frangipane (Halsey) herself the show’s creative director.
54 Robe Spiider LED wash beams, a new investment by DCR Nashville, lighting vendors for the US legs of the tour, are a vital part of the lighting rig.
The tour started in autumn 2017, and SRae submitted their initial proposals in May of last year. At the start, Halsey suggested a Romeo & Juliet-esque romantic look, so original versions of the set were based on this. However, once SRae began to also design promo and award show performances, an alternative approach evolved.

UK - Lighting and rigging specialist TSL Lighting has announced the appointment of respected head rigger Ali Morris to the team as rigging project manager.
Morris brings a wealth of rigging experience to TSL, having worked in the live events industry since the mid-90s. His work has encompassed many disciplines, from theatre, television and rock & roll to festivals, sports, corporate and political events, both in the UK and abroad.
During the 2012 Olympics, he looked after the rigging of specialist cameras in many of the venues across London including both vertical and horizontal tracks in the iconic Aquatic Centre.
He has also served as head rigger at Glastonbury, Wireless and V Festivals, supervising the main stages. His most recent challenge involved touring a 4.5t custom built gantry crane for Matthew Bourne’s new production of The Red Shoes.
