USA - Christie and Dolby Laboratories have announced their renewed collaboration to develop the next generation of Dolby Vision laser projection systems, which will begin rolling out into theatres in May.

This next-generation Dolby Vision projection system will build on the moviegoing experience that filmmakers, moviegoers and exhibitors have come to expect since Dolby Cinema was introduced 10 years ago. With more than twice the brightness of typical cinema presentations, and a contrast ratio well exceeding a million-to-one, moviegoers will experience the brightest whites, darkest blacks, and the finest details in between.

For highly saturated and real-life colours, this new 4K projection system will use RGB pure laser illumination to enable Dolby’s Wide Color Gamut 1.0 — which is nearly twice the colour gamut of Rec. 709 and 122% of DCI-P3-capab

Brazil - Lighting designer and DOP Alexandre (Alê) Augusto created the lighting scheme for the latest series of The Masked Singer in Brazil, with his rental company, Spectrun Design e Iluminação, supplying the lighting equipment and production.

The fifth season of the popular music TV show was recorded at Banijay Studios in the Guarulhos area of Sao Paulo, and Alê collaborated closely on the design side of this project with another of Brazil’s leading lighting designers, Serginho Antonio. Both are keen users of Robe moving lights and LED products.

Prominent on Alê’s lighting plot were 20 x TetraXs – the first in Brazil, as Alê also likes to be a bit of a trailblazer with new tech when possible – rigged on a shaped and automated truss which moved in and out to create different architectural looks in the studio.

USA - Dreamstate SoCal's creative design team’s vision for their main 70ft high, by 160ft wide, and 60ft trim stage was to deliver a production that took fans on an evolving journey across the universe. 

Designed by Erik Mahowald of Bending Light Productions with animation overseen by Brent Bucci of The VJ Collective, the stage was far more than just massive. It also transfixed the Long Beach crowd by exploding with vibrant colours, mind bending video imagery, immersive 3D features, inflatables from Airworks, and scenic designs from Leisure Expert Group.

"The stage was designed to evolve throughout the festival, taking fans to different planets, environments, and worlds," explained Bucci. "Working closely with Jeff Ryan, director of Dreamstate, our team developed a total of 20 major show looks, with custom intros for each artist.

South Africa - The Keorapetse William Kgositsile Theatre at the UJ Arts Centre in Johannesburg has recently upgraded its technical capabilities with the addition of Robe LEDBeam 350 FW (Fresnel-Wash) fixtures and a grandMA3 onPC command wing XT, complementing their existing grandMA3 compact XT, supplied by DWR Distribution.

USA - When TobyMac launched his headlining Hits Deep Tour in 2025, Bandit Lites was there to deliver a system that matched the energy that has been inspiring fans for three decades. With more than 25 Dove Awards and seven Grammys, TobyMac released his newest album, Heaven On My Mind earlier this month to wide acclaim.

In addition to TobyMac, the Hits Deep Tour features performances from Crowder, Cain, Ryan Stevenson and Terrian. Lighting designer Noah Wood needed to design a system that could support all the bands, in different venue spaces for multiple shows.

He also needed a flexible rig that was able to match the energy and diversity of TobyMac’s music.

Bahrain - A large complement of Claypaky lighting fixtures was on hand for the celebration hosted by the State of Kuwait at Bahrain National Stadium, following the victory of the Bahrain national team at football’s 26th Arabian Gulf Cup, the second win in Bahraini football history.

The reception was attended by His Majesty the King and many notables in sports and government. Fans went wild cheering the team which scored a victory over Oman to achieve their second title in six years.

Faalyat Event Management was the main event organiser. Showtech Productions W.L.L., an event management company in Bahrain, produced the gala event and provided the lighting design and fixtures. Australia - Kevin Northrup, lighting designer for Luke Combs, chose an array of Ayrton fixtures, MDG theONE and Atmosphere HO foggers/hazers, and grandMA3 consoles for the singer-songwriter’s recent stadium tour of Australia and New Zealand. All of the brands are exclusively distributed in North America by ACT Entertainment.

The Winston Salem, North Carolina-based Northrup has been working with Combs since his headline arena show in Asheville in 2017 and was lighting designer for Combs’ 2023 Australian arena tour. The new tour played eight dates in January and February in Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

The Netherlands - Two key performance spaces – Odeon and Spiegel – in the bustling Netherlands regional epicentre of Zwolle, chose Robe moving lights as a vital element of their transition to LED lighting, with the purchase of six T1 Profiles, 18 x Painte Profiles, 24 x LEDBeam 350s and 24 x LEDBeam FWQ 150 Washes, all delivered by Robe’s Benelux distributor, Controllux.

It was on a trip back home to Detroit for the holidays that Alexandra Kay's lighting designer, Corbin Alvae saw a stylised heart in an advertisement. It struck him with a vision for the set piece for his client's current 30-city Cupid's A Cowgirl tour.

UK - Poole’s Lighthouse staged its first Work Experience Day last weekend as 15 Year 10 pupils from local schools got a taste of life at one of the country’s largest multi-venue arts centres.

As well as hearing about the different jobs that make Lighthouse work, the young people were able to learn about how the different performance spaces are used and how sound and lighting function in them.

“I just wanted to thank you for the amazing opportunity today, I thoroughly enjoyed it,” said one young person.

“I also wanted to thank you for the sugar-free sweets and chocolate, it was really touching to feel my needs considered and I'm very grateful. I definitely learned a lot today and enjoyed learning from the best.”

India - In celebration of reaching a 25-year foundation tenure, Magarpatta, a 450-acre gated community consisting of commercial areas, residential compounds, hospital, school, 25-acre urban park, and a shopping mall, commissioned the facade illumination of their city gates. To mark a quarter-century, they wanted to create an awe-inspiring lighting display at the main entrance.

The gates at the entrance were adorned with dynamic lighting to enhance the appeal for both residents and visitors. Semblance Studio, a local lighting design firm from Pune, chose K-LITE to provide the lighting solutions.
