Singapore - Locally-based lighting designer Adrian Tan of The Light Project recently utilised 32 x Robe Esprite moving lights – 16 x Profiles and 16 x Fresnels – to light a production of Swan Lake staged by the Singapore Ballet at Esplanade Theatres by the Bay.

Twenty-eight of these fixtures were part of a new lighting package which has been added to the theatre’s house rig, and, as Adrian needed a couple more of each type to complete the detail of his design, more were sourced through Robe’s Asia Pacific office, also in Singapore.

This was the third re-light of this Swan Lake production at the high-profile venue, the second time that the Singapore Ballet has been accompanied by the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, and the first time that Esprites were used as the main workhorse lighting fixture.

South Africa - DWR Distribution’s Jaques Pretorius recently spent two busy days with third-year lighting students from the Department of Performing Arts at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), offering hands-on training on the grandMA3 lighting control platform.

Over the past year, TUT has invested in two grandMA3 onPC command wings – one for its Breytenbach Theatre and another for its practical teaching space – making this training especially timely.

Wandile Mgcodo, a long-standing lecturer at TUT and a passionate supporter of the next generation of creatives, helped organise the workshop. “There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing students grow in confidence, find their artistic voice, and master tools they’ll use in their careers,” he said.

UK - Highlite International showcased several new products at PLASA Focus Leeds 2025, with the Showtec IP Pixelstrip 40 and Showtec Goliath light fixtures making their UK debuts, alongside the DAP TA amplifiers.

Spain - The International Music Summit (IMS) concluded its 16th edition with a spectacular closing celebration at IMS Dalt Vila on the island of Ibiza. France - Montpellier Events is the management company for The Corum Congress Centre – Berlioz Opera, a major event complex located in Montpellier, in the south of France. The venue hosts over 300 professional events each year including congresses, exhibitions, corporate events and conventions, as well as live performances.

Equipped with three auditoriums – Berlioz Opera, Pasteur and Einstein – the venue has recently invested in Robe moving lights. In total, 46 x T1 Profiles, 20 x T1 Fresnels, 12 x Esprites and 10 x Fortes were supplied by Texen, a specialist in production technology integration and sales.

The 12 Esprites are permanently installed on the advanced catwalk of the 1995-capacity Berlioz Opera auditorium. They throw light over a distance of approximately 30m to the stage and are used for front and key lighting.

USA - Draped in sheer gold cloth with matching laurels on her head, and flanked by dancers in gladiator sandals, Muni Long evoked images of an ancient goddess for her Coachella debut. But even a Grammy-winning pop/R&B star can’t control the movement of the California sun.

This workshop will cover ‘everything you need to know about caring for your Robe lighting fixtures – from troubleshooting issues to cleaning techniques and routine maintenance’.

USA - The 67th annual Grammy Awards, honouring the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the year, returned recently to its traditional home: the Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Centre) in Los Angeles.

It also returned to its long-term show lighting designer, Full Flood, whose founder, Bob Dickinson, has been designing the Grammys since 1994, bringing in Noah Mitz as co-designer in 2017. In 2021 the latter took over design responsibilities entirely.

GLP’s product portfolio has also built up a reputation at the event over a long period – and 2025 continued that evolution. Adapting a rig that was originally devised in 2023, Mitz deployed quantities of JDC Line 500 and 1000, impression X5 Compact and impression X4 S. “We continually adjust and revise the lighting design each year even when the set doesn’t change,” he explains.
