UK - As announced at the ABTT Theatre Show Awards, Peter Lambert has been presented with the ABTT Award for Technician of the Year 2014.

A leading production electrician since 1998 - when his break came working on ShowBoat at London's Prince of Wales Theatre for the legendary Richard Pilbrow - his many years of experience has made him one of the most sort-after technicians around.

Whilst working as a casual on the original 1983 West End production of Singin' in the Rain at the London Palladium, Peter studied for his City & Guilds 181 & 236(1) Theatre Electricians Course - a training course delivered by the ABTT - graduating in 1984.

Germany - 2014's second quarter draws to a close and Laserworld AG continues to expand and recruits new employees for their marketing team.

The importance of a compelling online presence in text, picture and video increases with every year, hence at Laserworld they are glad to welcome Sabrina Mitchell in their marketing department. UK - Technical production company Hawthorns has recruited Rachel Waterfield as head of sales & marketing. With offices in London and Leicestershire, Hawthorns, have been busy expanding over recent years, most recently adding Cambridge based technical production company Anagram to their brand portfolio.

Waterfield brings 25 years of event industry experience to the role, and has previously held positions at companies including Hilton, Mask and MotivAction. UK - LEE Filters has introduced an app that gives lighting designers access to the entire LEE colour effect filter range - all from the convenience of their iPhone.

France - Airstar, a world leader in advanced lighting solutions for the event industry, was recently called on to animate the iconic and majestic nave of the Grand Palais in Paris with dramatic lighting of the 23rd edition of the Tour Auto Optic 2ooo. They were contacted by Peter Auto, the company responsible for some of the most prestigious classic car events in Europe.

Over 5,000 visitors queued up to admire 250 classic racing cars registered for the race which recalled the golden age of BMW, Ford, Porsche and Jaguar to name a few. 15 lighting balloons from Airstar's Lunix range were deployed and used for various purposes including decoration, space filling, lighting and signage.

Italy - Clay Paky lights stood godfather to Roby Facchinetti's tour. While awaiting the Pooh's 50th anniversary next year, Roby is doing the first solo tour of his career to support his album Ma che Vita la Mia (What a life I've had). The preview tour, which consisted of a few important shows in May, was an introduction to the tour itself, which will take place in the summer and autumn.

Crico Fabi, the Pooh's long-standing lighting designer, was a must for these events: "After all these years, Roby Facchinetti and I understand each other instantly. UK - The Seekers have recently brought their arena tour to the UK, trusting entertainment lighting specialist White Light to supply lighting solutions and production support for the 15 date tour. The artists, who have sold more than 60m records worldwide, returned to the UK with their Golden Jubilee Tour, marking 50 years since the group first performed in the country.

The tour comes as part of a wave of increased concert touring bookings for White Light, with the company also recently supplying lighting for artists such as Barry Manilow, Johnny Mathis, Gareth Malone, Wet Wet Wet, and Paramore.

LED screens greatly enhance the thrill of the 'sport of kings' for its followers, which is why a Lighthouse Technologies' LED screen has recently been installed at the Capanelle Ippodromo horse racing course in the Italian capital, Rome.

UK - Creative lighting designer Nick Gray of Renegade created a spectacular show for Kasabian's incendiary homecoming gig in Victoria Park, Leicester, UK, realising a long-term dream of playing in front of 50,000 fans as their latest album 48:13 rocketed to number one in the UK charts.

Gray worked in close collaboration with the band's creative director & show designer Aitor Throup on the project which included over 500 lighting fixtures and a large 22m x 11m upstage 9 mm pitch white Winvision LED screen which made up a complete white box lighting and visual environment. Band founder, guitarist and vocalist Serge Pizzorno was also intimately involved in the whole design concept and look of the show.

Germany - Rap band Materia has recently toured 14 cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland under the motto Zum Glück in die Zukunft II (luckily into the future II). The lighting designer Tjorre Hasubski counted on - among other lights - 22 Alpha Spot QWO 800s and 20 Clay Paky Sharpys. They were controlled by a full-size grandMA2, a grandMA2 light, one VPU basic MK2 and two 12 x 2.3 kVA digital dimmers, all made by MA Lighting.

Hasubski said,"The basic idea was that the show had to convey emotions through video images. However it was important for the video not to become too dominant. It had to fit harmonically into the general design concept. During some parts of the concert, lights were used to enhance the video components. Israel - Prodigy took their full-on maelstrom of mega-loud psycho-rock-rave to Israel, making some seriously deafening noise as the knife-edge excitement of their live show experience shook the Trade Fairs Centre in Tel Aviv to its foundations, complete with a lighting spectacle designed by Andy Hurst featuring over 120 Robe moving lights.

The lighting kit for the one off show was delivered by leading Israeli rental company Argaman Systems from Rosh Hayain, and included 32 x Robe Pointes, 76 x LEDBeam 100s and 16 x LEDWash 600s - all from Robe's Robin series.

Some of the additional Robe fixtures needed to service this show were supplied to Argaman by Danor Rental. Sister company Danor Theatre and Studio Systems is also Robe's very active Israeli distributor, and Danor's own Erez Hadar was at the gig to see the lights in action and appreciate Hurst's eye-popping lightshow first

Puerto Rico - The multi-level parking structure for the new Hyatt Place Bayamón and El Tropical Casino has been a labour of innovation and love, successfully incorporating indigenous art with a synchronized show and creative lighting elements. At night, the building structure becomes a canvas drenched in light, also lit by 25 Iluminarc Ilumipanel 40 IP fixtures, used for their rendition of saturated color and capabilities to function in humid or harsh weather conditions.

Boscaje Iluminado was designed exclusively by digital scenographer ANAITTÉ, for the Hyatt Place Bayamón & El Tropical Casino. Comissioned by PRISA Group, the initiative was awarded the Seventh Annual Excellence in Live Design Award 2014 in the architainment category by the readers of Live Design Online. USA - How do you top something that's already become one of the most widely followed lightshows ever? It isn't easy, but somehow LD Steve Lieberman manages to pull off this feat every year at the Electric Daisy Carnival, Insomniac Events' internationally acclaimed three-day EDM festival.

This year's Electric Daisy Carnival drew over 390,000 fans from every state and 40 countries, according to published reports. Rule Changes - Oscar organisers have put new rules in place to ensure fair campaigning in its music categories. Academy members are no longer allowed to contact voters via any means to promote their song for nomination. Members will also not be allowed to attend a live performance of eligible songs unless attached to a screening.

It comes following the disqualification in the original song category this year after it emerged a songwriter had emailed voters to consider his song. Alone Yet Not Alone, the title track from an independent Christian-faith film, beat other high-profile contenders to secure a surprise place on the shortlist.

It was later discovered Bruce Broughton - a former Academy governor and current executive committee member - emailed at least 70 of the 240-member music branch during the nomination period to bring his song to their attention.

UK - ELC Lighting launched the Buddy, a new Ethernet to DMX node at this year's ABTT show. Designed and engineered as an entry level product, the Buddy was designed with students and newcomers to the market in mind, but is already being hailed as an essential piece of kit for lighting designers to carry in their back pockets, with over 200 units already sold, the company reports.

This year's star-studded CMT's was lit by Tom Kenny for the fifth consecutive year, and he utilised a variety of Robe fixtures including Pointes, MMX Spots and LEDWash fixtures on his massive lighting rig in the Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tennessee.

Hosted by Kristen Bell and produced by Michael Dempsey Productions along with John Hamlin, Amy Johnson and Margaret Comeaux from CMT, the live broadcast received a great response from both the public and media.
