Cirro Lite now has available for rental the new Bag-o-Lite system from Licht Technik. The Bag-o-Lite was originally designed for the film and television market, but when combined with Licht Technik’s combination shutter/colour changer, has been used to stunning effect on a number of live productions.

The system was originally conceived by Uwe Hagenbach and Bernhard Grill of Licht Technik, the original idea being to provide a soft light with unique qualities that would offer new solutions to some of the more traditional lighting and rigging problems that occur on locations and in studios. The units are filled with nothing more than compressed air and have the ability to protrude up to a full 6m when horizontal. Cirro-Lite are currently stocking six-metre and three-metre bags with attachments to fit onto 4k and 6k/12k ARRI & LTM Pars.

In the short time since its launch, Coemar’s new CF7WashZoomX has been establishing itself throughout Europe. Wrapped in the carbon fibre covers that have become the trademark of Coemar’s CF family, the new unit extends the series of moving lights.

The WashZoomX is fired by a 700W MSR lamp down a high quality optical path, delivering standard Coemar high output and crisp definition. Output can be manipulated via the powerful zoom lens system and series of filters, which will adjust the beam characteristic from maximum intensity to maximum evenness to maximum diffusion. Alongside the zoom capability - which can produce beams as narrow as 9° and as wide as 54° with the diffusion lens, or as wide as 80° with the prismatic lens - Coemar's CMY colour mix system is included, plus a single dichroic colour wheel and colour correction filters.

London-based lighting specialists Fentura Production Services have just completed a high profile corporate event at the Royal Academy of Art. Lighting designer Tim Matthews specified ChromaCans which were supplied by Richard Martin Lighting to illuminate the main staircase. These units are based upon short nose Par 36 cans fitted with Pulsar’s ChromaRange of LED fittings. The units worked flawlessly throughout the show providing a dynamic and ever-changing carpet of light on the main entrance staircase.

For control, Matthews utilized the built-in programs of the Chroma Zone Controllers which gave him perfect control without the use of DMX or a control desk! Other fittings included CityColors, 400W HQIs and Source Four profiles and pars, which were rigged by a crew of three, in a hectic half hour, between the museum closing to the public and opening again to the corporate guests.<

ETC has reinvented the classic theatre batten. The technology - basically a long metal box filled with ordinary par lamps - has remained unchanged for years, but ETC’s new MultiPAR has put an end to that, transforming this traditional theatre workhorse into a powerful thoroughbred.

The new fixture combines the optics and energy-savings of the Source Four PAR (EA) with the functionality and flexibility of the classic batten. The patented lamps - 375W, 575W or 750W - offer energy efficiency, providing more illumination with over 40% less energy use. The simplicity of design of the ETC Source Four PAR is maintained throughout the MultiPAR, allowing for easy lamp replacement and high quality focus from the moment it is turned on. Meanwhile, its rugged housing and construction will withstand the wear and tear of the most demanding stage or road productions. The fixture is available in

David Langton and Bob Bailey of PricewaterhouseCoopers have been appointed joint administrators for the Lighting Technology Group and its associated companies - Lighting Technology Projects Ltd and Cerebrum Ltd. The three are very high profile within the industry and the news, though not entirely unexpected, will still shock those who felt that the Group was beginning to put its recent financial problems behind it.

Operating from bases in London, New Malden, Corby, Manchester, Newcastle and Paris, the three companies had made their names specializing in the supply of lighting and sound equipment to the entertainment and leisure industries. Whilst Lighting Technology and Cerebrum concentrated on the distribution of a large portfolio of brand names, Lighting Technology Projects focused on installation, specializing in high profile architectural projects. It should be emphasized that the

Event Lighting and Design has handled the lighting requirements for some of London's most high profile events. The company was responsible for the creative design and lighting of the Centenary Development Launch Party at Tate Britain and the Swiss Cultural Fund’s event at Tate Modern. The company has also provided the lighting design and technical production for several events related to the Matisse Picasso exhibition (which opened at Tate Modern on 11 May and runs through to 18 August), including dinner for 200 guests at the opening evening on 9 May. On that occasion the team, including Blackout and Dobson Sound, rose to the challenge by rigging a 19m x 12m printed screen backdrop hanging from the gantries 14m up in the air - thus creating an impressive focal point for each evening. Since the opening, Event Lighting and Design has provided the technical production for further even

One of the few modern ballet companies recognised worldwide, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has just visited the renowned Sadlers Wells in London as part of its ongoing European tour. Known not only for dance, but for the lighting of dance, Ailey chooses ETC equipment to light his shows.

The company has an intense schedule - touring eight months a year, two to three of which are overseas - more overseas than any other modern dance company. Over its 44-year history, the company has performed in 48 American states and 67 countries worldwide. "We are constantly moving," says Al Crawford, lighting director for the company. "This year is big internationally, including Spain, Germany, Austria, England and Italy." The lighting equipment that Ailey uses must be ultra-durable, reliable and flexible. What they can’t bring with them, they count on getting locally and

The decision by leading entertainment lighting distributor A.C. Lighting Ltd, to invest and restructure, is well and truly paying off, the company reports. Latest figures up to May show a turnover increase of six percent over the same period last year, and the indications are that this growth will continue. Substantial investments made at A.C. Lighting, in terms of facilities and systems, are reaching their target objectives to streamline the organisation, enhance customer service, and gain new business from around the globe.

Whilst organizational changes have played their part in the company’s success, the investment in personnel with the necessary skills and dedication has also been a major factor. The recent addition of the sound department has also contributed to the increase in turnover, and reinforces A.C.’s position as being a ‘one stop shop’ for entertai

CP Sound, the Middlesex-based creative sound and lighting designer and installer, has just completed its latest club installation - at Square 11 in Northampton. This intimate new nightspot is independently owned by Carl and Paul Bennymore. The interior design is clean looking and straightforward and the musical policy is aimed at a broad clientele. CP Sound’s Colin Pattenden again chose the familiar combination of JBL speakers and MAD lighting fixtures. "We have had many successes with this kit, especially in clubs - it’s a formula that works," he says.

The club is split into two floors. Downstairs, Colin placed JBL Control 28 speakers and SB2 subs in the walk-in area, with more of both speakers at the far end of the bar. This section of the club is a heavy-duty wine bar, open every night of the week. It has a small dancefloor, lit with MAD Scans and MAD QStars, a

Wybron took home two awards at Lightfair 2002. The company’s Eclipse II (a DMX iris douser), won in the category of theatrical and entertainment lighting, whilst Moiré, its dual pattern rotator, was named best product in the category for sports lighting.

Eclipse II is a variable speed DMX controlled iris douser, with linear control using a single motor. It can realistically fade fixtures that use non-dimmable arc and metal halide sources, products which are becoming more and more prevalent in lighting design today. This is the third time Eclipse II has been honoured with an award in less than a year, the first two being the LDI Awards 2001 and the EDDY Awards last December. The Moiré, winner in the category of sports lighting, is Wybron’s first dual gobo rotator, which can rotate and change between two B-sized glass or metal gobos. Controlled by a simple toggle switch, th

Following a year of testing at the National Theatre in London, IES sine wave dimmers were recently used for the first time at a public performance in the UK. Paul Pyant’s lighting design for the play Frozen, which opened at the Cottesloe Theatre on 3 July, includes two rows of five 12V Par 56 battens - famed for their powerful light-curtain effect, but notorious for the buzzing of the lamp filaments. Two of the battens, which comprise nine 12V 500W lamps in series, are typically connected in pairs to create a 216V load and powered from a 5kW dimmer which has been trimmed-down to give a suitable voltage. However, the pulsing waveform of a triac dimmer causes the filaments to resonate audibly, and this can be distracting in a silent drama theatre setting.

Mike Atkinson, senior project manager at The National Theatre, said: "We had tried triac dimmers before, but the noi

Martin’s third fixture in the MAC 2000 Series is ready for release. Continuing the MAC tradition, the MAC 2000 Wash boasts a number of features, including extremely high light output from an HMI 1200W source, full CMY colour mixing and variable CTC filters, multiple front lens options for various beam spreads and a fully motorized zoom system.

Created as a response to market demands for a powerful 1200W MAC Fresnel fixture, the MAC 2000 Wash combines some of the best features of the MAC 2000 Profile and MAC 600 eNT and was specifically produced as a complementary fixture to the other MACs in the 2000 Series - the MAC 2000 Profile and MAC 2000 Performance. The MAC 2000 Wash comes with electronic ballast as standard. The MAC 2000 Wash features a brand new reflector design developed specifically for this high-powered washlight.

A large number of colour options was also a key prior

James Thomas Engineering recently previewed its Pixelpar 660 - the first in a new range of solid state lighting fixtures using high brightness LEDs. The unit is scheduled to commence shipping in late summer 2002.

Following heavy investment in a new manufacturing plant and R&D facilities, the team at James Thomas has spent the last 12 months developing the new products, and conducting considerable market research into the advantages and applications of LED lighting. As a result, the Pixel range has a silent, non-mechanical, additive colour mixing system and the fixtures can produce stunning and instant effects - from the subtlest of dissolves to the fastest of high impact stroboscopic colour sequences.

The heat and energy saving properties (typically 90%) of Solid State Lighting should guarantee its future success, and the technology is predicted to replace incandescent light bulb sou

Artistic Licence has appointed Graham Eales as International Sales Manager. Eales has recently concluded his two-year contract managing Zero 88 Lighting, and his primary task will be to continue building the Artistic Licence brand in a global capacity.

Known primarily as a manufacturer of innovative entertainment control products and project solutions, Artistic Licence has recently taken the lead in the supply of ethernet solutions for lighting control. These provide not only a software operating platform, but also the hardware solutions needed for ethernet connectivity. Eales will no doubt relish the challenge of working in a company that is at the leading edge of both ethernet and DMX512-A development. "I have known Wayne Howell for a long time and respect the things that he has achieved in the development, not only of products, but protocols. I particularly like the fact that

A C Lighting Ltd has introduced the Tourmate Splitline - a 3-way 16 amp moulded splitter. The robust plastic moulded body is designed to fit neatly into truss and lighting bars, secured by a standard cable tie, making it a very neat solution.
