China - This year over 750 exhibitors of musical instruments and accessories, more than 130 exhibitors of professional audio and lighting equipment, and a packed schedule of events to entertain and enlighten visitors at the Music China and Prolight + Sound Shanghai show, which will run side-by-side at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Pudong from 19 - 22 October.

Prolight + Sound Shanghai may be smaller than it's neighbour Music China, but it's growing steadily and attracting some of the world's leading pro-audio and lighting companies into the fold. With over 130 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions - including China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, Norway, Singapore, Taiwan, the UK and the USA - the 2005 fair will show a good range of entertainment and AV equipment.

UK - Litec will be present at this year's PLASA show with lots of new products in both the trussing and rigging areas.

Libera 105 is the latest product in the well known and innovative roofing, grid and truss system line, say the company. It will be officially on show at PLASA for the first time. This truss has countless applications which have already been appreciated by many professionals during the events and festivals which took place this summer in several European countries, including Live 8, MTV Music Island and the 50th L'Oreal Colour Trophy awards in London.

The latest Litec products in the Ground Support Tower sector will also be on show, including the entirely aluminium Varitower 2, the now well-known Unitower complete with accessories, and the new square twist-resistant truss QL76 for building towers.

Australia - Over 100 Robe ColorSpot 170 moving heads and Anolis Arcsource RGB LED fixtures have been installed in the newly refurbished banqueting and ballroom facility at the Grand Hyatt, Melbourne, Australia.

The new facility's multi-purpose function areas now cover two levels, offering 2100sqm of conference facilities, and include the new Art Deco style Mayfair and Savoy Ballrooms The banqueting facility is designed to meet the highest international standards and is unparalleled anywhere else in Australia.

UK - Entertainment lighting supplier White Light will be at the PLASA Show once again this year, showing new products from many of the companies for which it is the exclusive UK distributor as well as its own Digital Festoon System, a winner of a PLASA Award For Innovation at last year's show.

In order to demonstrate its full potential, the Digital Festoon System - a radical re-think of conventional festoon lighting that allows each lamp along a festoon's length to be individually dimmed without the aid of external dimmers - will be put through its paces in a two square metre demonstration rig featuring a 27 x 27 square grid of bulbs - 729 in total. The arrangement will show some of the many dramatic possibilities offered by what, at first glance, appears to be just a collection of light bulbs.

UK - In order to make full use of your days at the PLASA show, the show's organizers are encouraging visitors to 'check in' early. The doors to the exhibition will be open from 9am every morning and you will be invited to go up to the Top Deck to collect your show catalogue, and have a cup of coffee at one of the outlets around the PLASA stand while planning you day, prior to the show's official opening at 10am.

UK - Perth Concert Hall is to be host to a Gala Concert, given by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, on 16 September 2005.

The event marks the public opening of the first full-scale purpose-built concert hall in Scotland since 1990. The £17M building is the result of an international architectural competition, chaired by Eva Jiricna, and won by BDP's Glasgow office in 1998.

Located in Perth's historic Horsecross, once a thriving market area but more recently marginalized, Perth Concert Hall is viewed in the round and BDP's free form plan is a unifying response to the irregular edges of the urban fabric bounding the site. The Horsecross area has already witnessed significant urban regeneration, as a result of the impending opening of this new facility, which includes a streetscaping project by the local authority following completion of the Concert Hall.

UK - The 2005 PLASA Show opened its doors at 10 o'clock this morning, and the crowds streamed in to the show floor, which looks better and brighter than ever. Sunday at PLASA is DJ day, of course, and the annual Gemini DJ competition will once again prove a big draw for budding mix artists, with the contest taking place in the DJ lounge at the rear of the hall, and the final taking place at 4.30pm. There's plenty more going on as part of DJ Sunday, supported by iDJ magazine, offering all kinds of opportunities to learn about the art and practice of DJing.

UK - "Debuts, demos and sneak previews" is the theme of the High End Systems' stand at the PLASA Show.

Debutees are headed by the Studio Command dichroic colour-mixing automated wash luminaire, which uses a 700 MSR (or alternatively a 700 MSR/2) source, emitting a large diameter beam from a compact head.

Also new is the DL2, the industry's first automated luminaire with an integrated digital media server on-board with preloaded content; and Axon v2, the rack-mount version of the DL2.

Under the "sneak preview' heading is Catalyst 4. This latest version of software now features show control cue lists, pixelMAD functionality and more than 60 new visual and colour effects, with over 3,000 new combinations of effects.

UK - ADB Lighting Technologies at PLASA 2005, on stand K39, has the PLASA Award-nominated WARP/M, a unique, fully automated zoom profile spotlight, derived from the manual WARP profile launched two years ago, making its PLASA début.

UK - PLASA has announced the launch of a new National Rigging Award, designed to give riggers across all sectors of the industry a recognized framework by which their knowledge and expertise can be measured.

Initiated by the rigging sector, who looked to PLASA to further develop the template for a National Rigging Certificate, the Award has become vital in a climate where there is a growing focus on health and safety, and an increasing expectation from the insurance sector.

For the last 10 months, PLASA has been working with government bodies and members of the rigging community on the development of the Certificate, a consultation process which has been underpinned by the formation of the PLASA Rigging Advisory Group.

UK - The winners of the PLASA Awards for Innovation were announced last night during a well-attended awards ceremony hosted by PLASA CEO Matthew Griffiths on the main show floor at Earls Court. The Awards, which focus on the best design and development work going on across the industry, came at the end of a day that reaffirmed PLASA's reputation as a forging ground for future innovations.

The Awards, which are judged by a panel of professionals, attracted 66 nominations, leading to eight technical awards and an additional award for environmental impact.

The winning products were:
