Australia - Clay Paky distributor for Australia, Show Technology, has supplied 14 Clay Paky Alpha Spot 300s to luxury venue Doltone House in Sydney's Hyde Park.

Situated on level three of the Tattersalls Club, the Doltone House venue is a prime location for a wide range of events including conferences and weddings and prides itself on grand architecture and sumptuous décor. It's this focus on providing a glamorous ambiance for its guests that prompted Mark McInnes, Show Technology's national sales and marketing manager, to supply the Clay Paky fixtures.

"We wanted to provide a subtle, yet state-of-the-art solution, to illuminate the space. As the Alpha Spot 300 is a smaller sized fixture it's ideal for use in venues which care about the aesthetics of the room," McInnes says. "This particular venue has a flamboyant interior design and feel, so the owners w

USA - SGM's pioneering X-5 white LED strobes are fast finding favour on the touring circuit - on both sides of the Atlantic and over a wide range of performance.

One of the recent adopters has been Seattle band Pearl Jam, products of the city's rock explosion at the beginning of the 1990's.

Their lighting designer Kille Knobel (who has also worked with fellow Seattle rock band Soundgarden) has been with the band since the early part of the millennium - and this latest tour (which visits Europe in June), is her first outing with the X-5 strobes. It is the band's most extravagant production to date - and has been conceived with stadiums and arenas in mind.

"We knew this production would play mainly in arenas, but also a fair number of stadium, festival and outdoor shows," she confirms. "We also do many shows that sell 360°, so creating a show that wasn't com

UK - Live Nation approached XL Video to supply a large video production for a recent epic one off show at London's Wembley arena by award winning Taiwanese alt rockers and superstars, Mayday.

The project was co-ordinated for XL by Paul 'Macca' McCauley who worked in close collaboration with Andrew Craig from Live Nation's London office and his counterpart from their Asia Pacific operation, who liaised with the artist's production and management.

"I have done a few of these high profile UK one offs with various Asian superstars in recent years," comments Macca. "They are often very complex in set up and this one was no exception, which increases the pressure, especially for a one off. The key to getting it right is for all departments to be really rigorous in the prep and have a good plan of action once onsite as time is always tight." ... although on this o

UK - Shure Distribution UK (SDUK), the distributor for leading pro audio brands including Shure, QSC, DIS, Sound Devices, and Radial Engineering, has announced the end of its UK distribution agreement with US company Movek, manufacturer of the myMix network-based personal monitoring and recording system.

The company's internal reorganization last year prompted a review of distributed brands to ensure consistent focus and a cohesive product offering. Both SDUK and myMix recognised that the niche myMix product portfolio, which is a near complete solution to many audio applications, was now a difficult fit and would be better served by a new distributor. Effective 1 May, SDUK will be passing all responsibility for myMix sales and support to UK-based distributors Synthax Audio UK.

UK - The Inception Group's evergreen homage to the late Margaret Thatcher has undergone a major lighting upgrade at the hands of Sound Division.

Opened by the fast growing company's Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling in April 2010, Maggie's in Chelsea is a 1980s-inspired boutique club named after the former British Prime Minister.

It had been trading largely without dynamic lighting until the operators contacted David Graham's London-based installation company, based on their sensitive lighting implementation at another heavily themed Inception venue, DISCO in Soho.

While the focal point at Maggie's is again the dance floor - now brought to life by a laser, strobe, scatter beams and four hemispheres - the more subtle work has been applied to bringing 80s icons such as Wham, Mr T, Super Mario, Sonic The Hedgehog etc to life with a series of cleverly detailed fixtures and driv

USA - Boulevard Pro, a leading NYC metro area audio systems and backline provider, has been assuring clients of great sound since 1986, when owners Anthony and James Cioffi came off the road as musicians, backing up artists like Gary U.S. Bonds and Mink Deville.

It's where they learned the value of having the right technology products for the markets they were working in, from renting out classic Fender Twin amps that clients of their rehearsal studio business in the 1980s knew to come to them for, to more recently having the in-demand products and systems that their live event and touring customers require. Boulevard Pro's latest addition to that latter category has been the recent addition of a full L-Acoustics Kara package.

According to Anthony Cioffi, 80 percent of what goes out their door for rentals are sound system components from L-Acoustics, whose products have litera

"I love highlighting the room's imposing industrial architecture - 152m long and 35m high - and bringing it into a new dimension and context using the full height and scale. Most visitors don't immediately notice a lot of the detail, so lighting the space is a big chance

UK - "There's only so much you can say about any one light," began AJ Pen who is running the One Republic lightshow; he then talked non-stop for 10 minutes. The focus of his attention is the new B-EYE from Clay Paky.

The show's designer, Chris Lisle had been alerted to the new light last year, "I had seen a couple of YouTube links of the B-EYE prior to going to LDI last year." He said. "I knew right away that it would be a great fixture to use on One Republic. After seeing it in person, that feeling was confirmed. I had started to get the ball rolling with Dave Ridgway of Neg Earth as soon as I had seen the videos. He asked that I speak to Philip Norfolk from Ambersphere who represents Clay Paky in the UK market: Philip would be at LDI."

"Chris really wanted to try them out," explained Norfolk, "and when he told me One Republic woul
