UAE - Thomsun Trading, Optocore's Dubai-based distributors, found that their creative presentation of the German manufacturer's intercom devices at InfoComm MEA paid dividends, and they received some excellent new enquiries as a result.

According to Thomsun product specialist, Alok Ghurde, the presence of two Optocore V3RFX-Intercom devices allowed them to connect a remote RTS DKP 16 CLD coloured keypanel to the ZEUS III LE+ 16-channel intercom matrix. "Due to the nature of the display, we also managed to promote and discuss BroaMan and how it could be used in an AV install/events venue," reports Alok. "We received excellent feedback and interest from system integrators as well as end-users - and this augurs well for our plans to showcase BroaMan and Optocore in a big way at the CABSAT show early next year."

USA - When the Samuel H. Scripps Mainstage at Theatre for a New Audience's Polonsky Shakespeare Centre opens this week, at 262 Ashland Place, Brooklyn, well-travelled theatre-goers may get a sense of deja vu.

The 299-seat theatre's two galleries, steep orchestra seating rake, and modest capacity create a closeness between the actors and audience that will remind some of a groundbreaking theatre 3,500 miles across the Atlantic. A theatre that through its innovative physical flexibility, intimacy, and dedication to experimentation helped revive the form of the courtyard theatre: The Cottesloe Theatre at the National Theatre in London.

The similarities are not an accident. In the 36 years since it opened, the Cottesloe Theatre has exerted an immeasurable influence over the theatrical world, not only in nurturing legions of actors, directors, writers, and theatre professionals, bu

Australia - Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour is a production that combines Michael Jackson's music and choreography with Cirque du Soleil creativity to give fans worldwide a view into the spirit, passion and heart of Jackson.

Lighting designer Martin Labrecque was required to design a rig that provided a decent amount of front and side light, as sometimes the stage can have forty-nine people on it, and that could also compete with the extensive use of LED video screens.

Another challenge was weight allowance with the space above the performance area already crammed with video walls, scenic elements and acrobatic machinery.

Originally Labrecque planned to use all VL3500 Wash and VL3000 Spot fixtures but was advised that he needed to scale back considerably due to weight restrictions. Rather than cut back the amount of fixtures, he turned to some of Vari-Lite's newer an

Spain - D.A.S. Audio's new Aero Series 2 systems were one of the highlights at this year's Low Cost Festival: combined with sun, sand, and three days of live music the systems were the perfect ingredient to ensure a successful festival experience.

Celebrated five years running at Benidorm's Guillermo Amor Stadium, over 75,000 spectators flocked to the concert grounds to see a line-up of some of the world's best artists, including Two Door Cinema Club, Portishead, Glasvegas, Love of Lesbian and Lori Meyers.

UK - Britannia Row Productions is no stranger to London Fashion Week but every year is different. The show is renowned for using some of the capital's most individual settings to show off designers' collections, each with their own idiosyncratic acoustic profile or challenge for the audio supplier.

This year the prize for the most unusual conundrum must go to The Dairy in Bloomsbury where a swimming pool, complete with a synchronised swimming team, provided the centre piece for Stella McCartney's collection. As project manager, Tom Brown explains: "This was something of a one-off creative challenge: we had to provide monitoring for them underwater as well as provide audio feeds out of sight and keep our solution safe with the water."

Elsewhere around the capital, venues offered a varied array of acoustic challenges. Take the Farmiloe Building in Clerkenwell, a Victor

UK - XL Video's new Hybrid 18mm LED screen made its touring debut on the recent UK leg of Ellie Goulding's Halcyon Days tour, where it was specified by lighting and visuals designer Cate Carter of Bryte Design and integrated into her vibrant production design for the tour.

The Hybrid 18 screen panel features a standard medium 18mm pitch comprising 32 x 32 pixels per panel, with 4 x 4 higher brightness (7700nit) low-resolution pixels also embedded in the same panel.

For the Ellie Goulding tour, 19 TAIT produced touring frames to make up a rear video screen. Each frame contained 2 x 2 panels of Hybrid 18 (four in total) giving a surface of 64 x 64 medium resolution pixels and 8 x 8 low resolution pixels per touring frame. The touring frames were flown at 45 degree angles so they were an attractive diamond shape mosaic surface upstage.

Arts Funding - Funding for English museums, galleries and theatres is heavily slanted towards London, a report has said. Central government spending on arts and culture in the capital amounted to £69 per resident in 2012/13, compared with £4.60 per person elsewhere in England.

Arts Council England chair Sir Peter Bazalgette admitted an imbalance existed, adding: "More should be done." He told the the BBC Radio 4 Today programme: "There is an imbalance, there's no question. I've only been at the Arts Council for a few months. I'm absolutely passionate about funding arts and culture in the regions... We need to do more...I would say judge us in two years time. The trend is towards more spending in the regions and that's what we'll be doing."

Denmark - When the staff at Svalegangen, a theatre in the western Danish city of Aarhus, started looking for new control desks for their 200 seat main theatre and touring needs, they weren't expecting to make a quick purchase.

They wanted to find a control system with familiar syntax, in order to ease users' learning process on the new desks, and which would have great support and would be future proofed, with regular software updates keeping up with advances in lighting technology.

After browsing the market for a replacement control desk for about a year, head of lighting Anders Kjems and his team decided on ETC Gio for their main stage and a second for touring, complementing the Ion they previously bought for the 40-seat foyer stage. As part of the ETC Eos line, both Gio and Ion use the same control syntax they were used to from their previous desk, enabling both resident an
