UK - Watched by millions, the 2013 Brit Awards offered an A-list performance-packed show, held in London's prestigious 02 Arena.

Once again Le Mark's high gloss StudioTak studio vinyl was selected for both the beautifully curvaceous cat walk running out into the audience and also used in the after show broadcasts.

With some of the biggest names in the music industry attending and collecting their awards, the set design and production was as seamless and stunning as ever before. StudioTak high gloss floor provided a water-like shimmering reflection, enhancing the set and stage on which it's laid.

Le Mark's Sharon Marshall commented, "So far this year, Le Mark floors have been used on some of the most prestigious award events in the world: the BAFTA's, the NTA's and now the Brit Awards - an incredible achievement for all the team here.

"StudioTak itself is such a f

World - Bloc Party are currently in the midst of their biggest, most ambitious tour to date. The Four tour completed 2012 in Mexico and, so far, 2013 has taken them across the USA then on to Europe, via Japan. The end of February will see the band playing to a 19,000 strong audience at Earls Court before March escorts the tour down to Australia and the Far East.

The lighting design reflects the band's persona; direct, clean, sharp and uncompromising. Rob Sinclair, designer of both set and design sums it up succinctly, "Set, light and lasers exist as a whole, unified visual force." A designer with names such as the Kaiser Chiefs, Peter Gabriel and Pulp under his belt, Sinclair is straightforward about his choice of lights for the show: "I've been using Clay Paky products on a regular basis since I first programmed a show with four Golden Scan Mk1s in 1992!&q

Singapore - Allen & Heath's Indonesian distributor, Sindo Exports Pte Ltd, recently supplied Allen & Heath GLD digital systems to Singapore's Wala Wala live music club and Cleopatra karaoke nightclub.

Founded 20 years ago, Wala Wala started hosting live music acts 10 years later following the refurbishment of its first floor storage area. A relatively small live room, the original sound reinforcement system suffered from poor sound quality when the levels were increased so Wala Wala's management appointed an audio technician to mix the 11 weekly acts.

"Having decided to recruit an engineer in Mark Jason, we then realised that the club needed a sound system," commented operations manager Maniam Krishnan. "Bands previously mixed themselves, which was a little inconsistent as some would be too loud and others were inexperienced."

"Wala Wala previously h

Dunlop added that his company had held an interest in the Optocore product line for several years. "In 2012 we felt we had the

USA - Super Bowl XLVII was a memorable game, but the full Super Bowl experience started well before kickoff with a pair of live pre-game concerts broadcast on VH-1 and CMT where Clay Paky Alpha Spot QWO 800s and grandMA2 light consoles played key roles.

VH-1 and the NFL joined forces to celebrate the Super Bowl with Train headlining on Friday night. CMT and the NFL partnered the following evening on a Crossroads special starring superstar country band Rascal Flatts and iconic rock band Journey. Both concerts were held at The Sugar Mill in New Orleans, which seats 4,000-5,000 fans.

Atomic Lighting of Lititz, Pennsylvania provided 40 Clay Paky Alpha Spot QWO 800s and a pair of grandMA2 light systems with wings for the concert series. PEDG was the production design team collaborating. Bob Pederson was acting lighting designer on the broadcast truck.

The next conference is planned for February 2014 at The Leys School in Cambridge.

UK - Colour Sound Experiment (CSE) supplied a ground support system, lighting equipment, production design and crew for the first ever Jazz FM Awards, which celebrated the work of jazz musicians, composers and contributors from across the globe.

Staged at One Marylebone in London, CSE was working in conjunction with Insight Lighting and production company Swim Productions.

CSE's Project Manager Fletch collaborated with creative director Brendan Clarke from Insight Lighting to create the lighting and production design for the much anticipated event, which saw several live performances from Cerys Matthews, Carleen Anderson, Ahmad Jamal among others.

The main room featured a stage and seated a capacity audience of 268 for dinner, and there was also a reception area that needed lighting.

The CSE team started with the installation of the four legged ground support system - meas

UK - Projection artist Ross Ashton from London UK based The Projection Studio created a special giant video artwork, Spiritus on the front of All Souls Church, Cheriton near Folkestone in Kent for the 2013 Cheriton Lights Festival.

Ashton was commissioned to produce the piece by production company Strange Cargo and collaborated with sound artist Karen Monid who produced a special accompanying soundscape.

All Souls, which stands at the end of the High Street and was consecrated in 1895, is a fairly conventional parish church of its era, however it has the unusual feature of four stained glass windows depicting the four Archangels - Gabriel, Michael, Uriel and Raphael.

Ashton and Monid took these windows and the vivid colours of the peacock feathers making up their wings as the starting point of their concept.

The idea was to produce a two centre piece which worked bo

South Africa - The upgrade and installation of a Philips Strand dimming system at The Baxter Theatre in Cape Town, is now complete.

The Baxter Theatre at the University of Cape Town purchased their new Philips Strand Wallrack Dimmer units from DWR Distribution. "As time allowed and as the venue became available, the old dimmers were steadily replaced," commented Dave Whitehouse from DWR.

"We chose Strand because it is a trusted name in theatre lighting," said Patrick Curtis from The Baxter. "The linkage to Philips is a positive development, but mostly we chose the product because we are assured of 100% backup from DWR."

"We would like to thank Patrick Curtis from The Baxter for the opportunity to work on this installation," ended Whitehouse.

UK - Since breaking into the UK music scene in 2009 with three top 20 singles, Paloma Faith has had two platinum-selling albums. Currently in the midst of an extensive UK tour, her FOH engineer, Huw Richards, is working on a DiGiCo SD10 with SD Rack.

"I instantly liked DiGiCo the minute I used one of their consoles," Richards admits, during soundcheck at London's Hammersmith Apollo. "Whatever the model, you're getting real value. Be it the great EQ, the excellent pre-amps - the list goes on - everything you're working with is always the same quality as the flagship SD7, which you really can't argue with."

Richards likes the SD10 for its functionality, user interface, and overall sound quality. "DiGiCo is always great for channel count; I'm running 54 channels here on my SD10, and what's also really handy is having 12 faders in each fader bank rather th

Ukraine - The Victoria Hotel & Conference Centre is the leading venue in Donetsk, capital of the Donets Basin region of the Ukraine. It is also situated very close to the Donbass Arena, home of local soccer heroes (and 2009 UEFA Cup winners) FC Shakhtar Donetsk (FCSD), and one of the venues for last year's Euro 2012 tournament.

In preparation for Euro 2012, which saw a sizeable portion of the UEFA delegation staying at the Victoria, the hotel was thoroughly refurbished and all of its audio systems were renewed throughout. Odessa-based installer Real Music, who are also the QSC distributor for Ukraine, were responsible for installing all of the PA/VA speakers and systems.

A QSC ILA line array comprising 16 WL2082-i elements (eight left, eight right) and four WL118-sw subwoofers was used in the main conference hall at the Victoria, where all of the pre- and post-match press conf

UK - The helipad of an 18-storey building on a cold winter's night is not a typical place for a cinema screening, but the launch of Virgin Media's movies-on-demand service Virgin Movies was no typical event. The challenge of delivering high quality (and high-rise) surround sound for an outdoor showing of The Dark Knight Rises fell to Urban Audio Productions, for whom Yamaha's StageMix iPad app was - almost literally - a lifesaver!

Located hundreds of feet above east London's Shoe Lane, the venue provided the audience of competition winners with a suitably Gotham City-esque setting, although the unpredictability of the British winter weather meant that the screening's date had to be postponed a couple of times.

Access to the helipad was very tight - through the front door of the building, up 16 floors in a conventional lift and then two further floors via an exterior sta

USA - Tri-Cities-based sound reinforcement and AV service and rental provider, Ford Audio Service Inc, has taken delivery of the first L-Acoustics Kara system in Washington State. The initial order was comprised of 24 Kara, accompanied by 12 SB18 and eight SB28 subs, four 12XT coaxial monitors, and eight LA8 amplified controllers.

Located on the southern edge of the state - a five-hour drive southeast of Seattle - Ford Audio is well positioned to service corporate clients, venues, festivals and regional tours throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.

"We've had several rigs in our 17-year history, and this time we wanted the best modular array that money could buy to move our company forward," says owner Gary Ford. "We looked at other systems, of course, but ultimately felt that L-Acoustics offered the best package, not to mention a longstanding history

UK - The first Robe Robin MMX WashBeams fixtures to tour the UK went out on Strictly Come Dancing - The Live Tour, which played a month of UK arenas following the latest of the BBC's popular hit TV series. The glittering 2013 tour line up included reigning Strictly champion and Olympic gymnast, Louis Smith, dancing with Ola Jordan.

Lighting was designed by Richard G Jones, who was asked on-board by show director (and judge) Craig Revel Horwood last year.

Jones ensured that no-one was disappointed, creating a show awash with colour, movement, drama and pizzazz to match all the dancefloor action, energy and high jinks!

All lighting, sound & rigging equipment was supplied by south Wales based rental and production company, Sonalyst.

The 14 x MMX WashBeams together with 23 x Robe Robin MMX Spots are newly purchased by Sonalyst for their hire stock - which now contains g

Martin is in the process of launching new products across all of its product lines including new models in the award-winning MAC Viper family

UK - Charcoalblue's lighting designer Alex Wardle has used Philips Selecon PLCycs as part of his minimalist lighting rig for the well-received touring production of Birdsong.

With a number of very different scenes to evoke in a single environment set, designed by Victoria Spearing, Wardle had his work cut out. Lighting works with the set and direction to seamlessly shift the mood from the claustrophobic world of the tunnels under no man's land to bright outdoor scenes and the house where main protagonist, Stephen Wraysford, falls in love.

Wardle uses the PLCycs to deliver an evocative backdrop, symbolically conveying the time, place, feeling and atmosphere of each with his clever application of colour, transition and intensity. Wardle explains: "Because this play shifts so quickly between locations and time periods, we need to help the audience understand where we

Russia / Germany - It all began with a documentary on the TV arts channel 'arte' about the world's coldest inhabited place, Oymyakon in the far east of Russia. The programme also mentioned 'ice whispering', a phenomenon that occurs when people breathe and speak in extremely low temperatures. The breath immediately freezes, generating a crackling noise that follows the speaker like a shadow.

Fascinated by the idea that words turn into crystals with a sound of their own, the artist Juergen Staack travelled to Yakutia in 2012, accompanied by his artist colleague Thomas Neumann. The sound recordings that Staack brought back with him were on display in the exhibition entitled SAKHA at the Konrad Fischer Galerie in Berlin. On his acoustic hunt to record the rare phenomenon of ice whispering - which the natives call "the whisper of the stars" - Juergen Staack took along an MK

UAE - Mandylights lighting designers Richard Neville and Alex Grierson spent a month in Dubai as lighting designers for Dubai's New Year's Eve celebrations. The 25- minute show took place around the centre of Dubai in front of the Burj Khalifa - the world's tallest building. Using some 350 intelligent fixtures, the pair illuminated the Burj, lake and surrounding precinct which played host to 15 individual performer stages and a massive 210m long seamless projection screen.

The show's narrative was based on the important natural and cultural elements of the world and how they all come together. The show was first performed on New Year's Eve preceeding the midnight fireworks for a site wide audience of 1.7m people and accompanied live by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. The show then played twice nightly throughout January for the many daily visitors to the new heart of Dubai.

USA - Bandit Lites recently redesigned the lighting at the Bayou Music Centre in Houston, Texas. The space, which opened in 1997, has hosted talent ranging from Etta James and James Brown to Fall Out Boy and The Killers.

The venue's existing house grid did not lend itself to many lighting or house ambiance options, as it held mercury vapour fixtures with gel attached and was both too big and heavy to articulate. Additionally, the stage system was a modest 120k rig and in need of an update. Bandit gutted the entire stage and house lighting systems from rigging down, and in five days, installed a completely new, dynamic lighting system.

"The idea going in was to remove this structure and replace it with something we could use to transform the room for various events," explained Bandit's Roth Edwards. "They can lower the truss grid to close in the space and make it
