USA - FocusTrack, the show lighting documentation system, congratulates lighting designers Jeff Croiter and Natasha Katz, winners of the lighting categories at this year's Tony Awards presented this Sunday, June 10th, in New York. Congratulations, too, to the other winners and nominees.

Jeff Croiter took the Best Lighting Design of a Play Tony for Peter and the Starcatcher, which also won Tonys for its set designer, Donyale Werle, its costume designer, Paloma Young, and its sound designer, Darron L. West. Croiter's co-nominees in the category were Peter Kaczorowski for The Road To Mecca, Brian MacDevitt for Death of a Salesman and Kenneth Posner for Other Desert Cities.

Natasha Katz collected the Best Lighting Design of a Musical Tony for Once, one of the eight wins from 11 nominations the show received. Set designer Bob Crowley, sound design

Canada - Home to Canadian Football League team BC Lions and Major League Soccer team Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Vancouver's BC Place stadium is a premier venue. It has hosted appearances from such iconic figures as Pope John Paul II, Madonna, Michael Jackson and, of course, Winter Olympic athletes.

Following a major upgrade, BC Place has become a new landmark of Vancouver's skyline and a place of pride for all British Columbians, due in no small part to the new lighting effects system, which not only adds to the stadium architecturally but also allows BC Place to 'come alive' both inside and out.

Controlling this new and sophisticated integrated lighting system, which utilises energy-efficient LED fixtures from Lumenpulse, is a Pharos LPC 60 programmed with the Pharos Designer software, enabling displays of a vast array of static or moving colour designs on the exterior and inter

Australia - The latest step in projectiondesign's global growth strategy is the appointment of Hills Sound, Vision & Lighting Group as a new distribution partner for Australia and New Zealand.

The appointment means that projectiondesign products and technical support will be available in every major Australian and New Zealand city which will greatly benefit integration customers and partners, says the company.

"Hills SVL Group already distributes a high-calibre range of products which is backed up with highly specialised technical know-how and educational support," says Stuart Craig, group general manager at Hills SVL Group. "The addition of projectiondesign to our product portfolio will enable us to gain increased traction in the advanced imaging markets which projectiondesign has an already strong presence. The addition of projectiondesign is the perfect match

Azerbaijan - To broadcast the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan German Broadcast production company Brainpool TV on behalf of Ictimai TV, used an extensive installation from Riedel Communications. Riedel, one of the leading manufacturers and providers of real-time networks for video, audio, communications and data, installed a comprehensive network infrastructure consisting of MediorNet, Artist, RockNet, professional radios and wireless video links.

At the heart of the installation was Riedel MediorNet. The fibre-based real-time network transported the majority of the event's signals. Forty HD and SD video signals were distributed within the arena - amongst them the broadcast feed and the signals for the on-site video walls and monitors. Since MediorNet allows the transport of different signal types over a single infrastructure, it significantly reduced the amount

Singapore - American progressive metal band Dream Theater has used Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 1500s and Clay Paky Sharpys, supplied by Singapore's Showtec Communication Pte, to deliver a dramatic light show at the iconic 1700-seater Kallang Theatre in Singapore.

The venue, which has recently been refurbished to become an Asian Arts and Culture Hub, is an important stop in the band's demanding 2012 world tour. Dream Theater is extremely popular in the region and even more so since its album, A Dramatic Turn of Events became one of the group's most successful yet, reaching number 8 on the US Billboard 200 and number one in ten different countries.

"Dream Theater's live shows have become bigger and more diverse since they formed back in 1985," reports band lighting designer Steve Baird. "They demand a sense of drama and high impact lighting has always been a c

Serbia - Members of the Synco Europe Network work in almost every conceivable location but the top of Serbia's most beautiful ski resort mountain, Kopaonik, must be among the most spectacular. This spring the Audiokonstruktor team, which flies the Synco flag in Serbia from its base in Novi Sad on the Danube, had the opportunity to enjoy the unique vibe and star-studded programme of the Big Snow Festival, providing full audio production.

The festival's line up, staged at Europe's highest music site, was led by Basement Jaxx, Junior Jack, DJ Fresh and Freestylers. The audience could also dance with Ms Dynamite, Skism, Eddy Tample Morris, Micky Slim, and a host of domestic bands.

Created and organised by producers of the award-winning EXIT festival and its president Dusan Kova?evi?, the Big Snow Festival was staged at MK Mountain Resort. This all-year resort is in the heart of th

Ireland - An RCF TTL33-A active line array was deployed in the unlikely location of the Thurles Greyhound Stadium in Co. Tipperary, for a concert by all-girl group, The Saturdays during the June Bank Holiday weekend. It was the largest RCF system ever rigged in Ireland.

Presented by Kennedy's Live Promotions under the banner, Tipp Goes Pop, the special one-off gig by the Anglo-Irish group was designed as a homecoming for the band's Una Healey, who hails from Thurles, and is soon to marry English rugby star Ben Foden. More than 6,000 people turned out to help her celebrate - and listen to a roster of some of Ireland's leading support acts.

Although the site was the scene of several festivals many years ago, these days it is used exclusively for greyhound racing. And with a hospital overlooking one side of the stadium, Declan O'Sullivan, of audio production company Star S

Denmark - There's a price to pay in always being first, as head of sound at Aarhus Musikhuset Per Adel explained. "Sometimes you have to wait a long time to be first." Adel has a reputation for the enigmatic but for once he was not being ironic. "For the Musikhuset the V-Series is exactly what we wanted to have; size, weight, performance; dispersion, character and quality."

The Musikhuset is the premier concert venue in Denmark's second city, Aarhus; what Adel had idealised in his mind's ear for the venue was, for want of any other description, the V-Series line array from d&b audiotechnik, a system only recently launched at prolight+sound in Frankfurt 2012. "We have been using d&b systems in this venue for more than 25 years. We were one of the first houses to purchase an F2/B1 system and have the legendaryF1220 loudspeakers which we used for near-fill.

UK - Swedish Dance Sensation Avicci got the Bank Holiday party started last weekend playing two major shows as part of his tour in London and Dublin's 02 Arena's.

Richard Martin Lighting (RML) supported Just Lite Dublin for the Ireland show by supplying Martin LC2140 panels and Atomic Strobes.

Nick Malbon designed and operated the show and he said of the units, "The screen was a joy to use, it has the punch needed for a dance event like this and the package sent by Richard Martin is as near plug and play as these things get."

UK - London's Royal Opera House has expanded its extensive HMI lighting stock by investing in Robert Juliat Cin'k 326 LFV 2.5K HMI Fresnels.

Robert Juliat Cin'k Fresnels are available with interchangeable lamp bases offering a choice of 1200W or 2500W HMI and 2500W or 5000W tungsten light sources, but Royal Opera House senior lighting manager, Nick Ware, particularly specified the HMI model.

"The HMI Cin'k Fresnel is ideal because the Royal Opera House already has in its possession a large number of Robert Juliat D'Artagnan 2500W HMI profiles," explains Ware. "The Cin'ks replace our old HMI Fresnels which were becoming worn out and obsolete, so finding spare parts for them was becoming increasingly difficult. But the Cin'ks use the same ballasts, header cables and many spare parts as our D'Artagnans which streamlines stock control and makes maintenance easy.&quo

South Africa - LumenRadio's CRMX lighting control products were recently used in the spectacular 18th South African Music Awards (SAMAs) held at the Sun City Superbowl Arena in front of a large enthusiastic crowd and broadcast live on national television.

Robert Hoey of Dream Sets got an assignment from the client, Vertical Limit Productions, that most set designers only can dream about and he (despite the name of the company) never got before; design your dream set without limitations.

Hoey came up with a design incorporating inflatables, described as Dr. Seuss meets Sci-Fi style, that reached beyond the stage and over the audience. The production design also included a massive compliment of AV and lighting equipment from brands like Robe, Clay Paky, Avolites, MA Lighting, Robert Juliat, LSC, and Selecon with support from local companies MGG Productions, AV Unlimited and Audi

Azerbaijan - MA Lighting once again took control for the Eurovision Song Contest, which recently completed its 56th consecutive year, held at the Baku Crystal Hall in Azerbaijan.

Lighting designer Jerry Appelt, who was also the lighting designer of last year's Eurovision Song Contest in Germany, specified an impressive lighting rig to compliment the new arena. More than 1,400 moving lights (2,891 lighting fixtures total) with 39,860 parameters allowed 42 countries plus an elaborate interval act and opening performance to have a completely unique look during the overall 7-hour broadcasts.

MA Lighting took total control of the show. Eight grandMA2 full-size consoles, as well as five grandMA2 fader wing ran all lighting, triggered via Timecode. Fifteen MA NPU (Network Processing Unit) devices and 21 x MA NSP (Network Signal Processor) handled all traffic in one session on the MA-

UK - The award-winning wysiwyg previsualization suite from CAST Software of Toronto, Canada was part of the royal fanfare at the recent Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert, held at Buckingham Palace, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's reign.

The concert called for extravagant lighting, video projections on the Palace and of course, plenty of pyro. The star-studded line up included Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Stevie Wonder, Sir Tom Jones and Madness, among others.

Lighting designer Durham Marenghi sat at the creative helm with a tall order to fill, as the concert was attended by the Royal Family and broadcast worldwide. Not only did he have to provide stellar lighting for some of the world's biggest pop stars but he also had to deliver something that would prove equally gripping for the live and TV audience at home. To a

Azerbaijan - Battling it out for Europe's highest vote, Green Hippo's Hippotizers were at the core in pulling off a spectacular show at the Eurovision song contest 2012.

Eurovision, known for its epic, weird and remarkable performances didn't fail to entertain us once again as contestants competed, not just with their voices but the effects, lighting and imagery that supported them. This year Europe's guilty pleasure came back bigger and better, with a huge stage, catwalk, six giant LED screens and an enormous lighting rig.

Hippotizer's PixelMapper and VideoMapper components took each performance out into the seating area, bringing the whole 'land of fire' theme into the hall.

Crystal Hall holds up to 20,000 people and the event was witnessed by 125 million people worldwide. The LED screens created an immersive environment for the performances - using all of Hippotizer's aw

UK - Revolutionis the name of a West End dance show featuring some of the UK's finest commercial dance talent. Twenty hand-picked performers, fronted by Sky 1's Got to Dance judges, Kimberly Wyatt and Adam Garcia, performed on six consecutive Sundays (from 6 May - 10 June 2012) at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

The Show's futuristic storyline and hard hitting soundtrack required some big-impact lighting and visual effects. But how were the producers (Iron Sea Productions) going to achieve this when they could only access the theatre in the morning of each Sunday show? Not to mention the fact that a full lighting rig for the long running National Theatre production of One Man, Two Guvnors was already installed at the venue.

Cue lighting director Nigel Catmur and a well drilled ELP crew led by Mark Gardiner. "The technical and logistical challenges were t
