France - 80s rock group Indochine wrapped up their Meteor Tour at the Palais Omnisport de Bercy in Paris on 14 and 15 September, 2010. For the two final shows at the Palais Omnisport de Paris-Bercy, no fewer than 10 Christie projectors were installed by the technical services company, Alabama, so that every one of Indochine's 34,000 fans could simultaneously enjoy a show embellished with animations, archive footage and live video on two lateral screens.

The whole system was run by the light console using a Catalyst media server synchronised to the show's timecodes. The media server stored all of the various video displayed on the screens, while simultaneously managing the live cameras used for both recording the show and providing live video to the concert-goers.

This final show of the tour opened with a 25m wide Kabuki screen which appeared above the stage as the lights went

UK - Madame Tussauds rounded off 2010 by unveiling eight figures of global pop star Lady Gaga throughout its sites worldwide, in what it describes as the most ambitious figure launch in its history. Working towards unveiling the London wax figure of Gaga, Madame Tussauds called on LED supplier, Architainment Lighting to illuminate the much anticipated figure.

Once Gaga had been designed, constructed and styled to perfection, it was imperative that the lighting selected for the wax figure, and the Music Zone set in which it resides, was superior. After assessing the functionality required to light the figure, Architainment supplied Philips Selecon PL1RHC03 Black PL1 Spot to Madame Tussauds, marking the first ever UK sale of this flagship fitting from the Philips entertainment group of products.

Working in collaboration with Madame Tussauds' show services manager, Simon Morris,

Canada - The University of Lethbridge in Alberta recently installed an Aviom Pro16 Personal Mixing System, to serve a multitude of functions for the school including music recording, theatre production and traditional campus events. Primarily purchased to support the University's new educational and commercial studio, the A-16II Personal Mixers are also included in the curriculum for the school's new Bachelor of Music in Digital Audio Arts programme.

The Aviom Personal Mixers afford students the ability to quickly and easily create their own cue mixes from content provided by an SSL Duality Console. Because the A-16IIs simplify the job of monitor mixing, they allow the production students to place their full attention on recording procedures.

"The Aviom Personal Mixers take away the need for beginner students to worry about monitor mixes, giving them time to focus on othe

UK - X-Factor's lighting programmer William Peachment from Little Mouse Productions once again integrated several Hippotizer media servers for the most recent X-Factor set up, working with four Hippotizer systems and using a total of seven outputs.

All machines were networked via HippoNet and controlled remotely by Green Hippo's ZooKeeper control software. The individual monitors on each machine allowed the operator, Russ Grujbiak, to easily see and access all outputs.

Using one Hippotizer HD, one HippoCritter and two Hippotizer Stages, Peachment controlled all video and digital lighting via these four systems.

The Hippotizer HD fed the centre screen from one output and the side screens from the second output, with these screens going via a scan converter to the vision mixer so that they could be switched. The HippoCritter with its one output was used to drive the two Olite

UK - The Royal Variety Performance at The London Palladium showcased over 30 acts in the presence of HRH Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Undertaking the lighting design for a rarely offered second year, lighting designer Steve Nolan and associate Tim Routledge took the opportunity to use the newly launched PixelSmart from PixelRange.

"When you have so many different acts to manage, you need as many tricks up your sleeve as possible - and the PixelSmart certainly helped with that. It can do so many different things. It can be a wash light, it can be an effect, anything, but we used it mainly as 'sparkle'"

The PixelSmart luminaires, 24 in number, were positioned facing straight out towards the audience -distributed across four lighting towers at the back of the stage. Controlled via a grandMA lighting console. "Instead of talking to the PixelSmart a

UK - When Sonalyst MD Rory Madden was asked to supply full, new build audio distribution and ground control infrastructure for the We Will Rock You tour in just nine weeks, he knew time was against him. "Normally, for a show of that scale and complexity, you'd feel up against it given three or four months to prepare. In this case, we had just nine weeks so our choice of technical partner was absolutely vital."

One of the first things Madden did was drop in to VDC's premises in North London. He reports, "I'd worked with VDC before on a few smaller projects and had a strong feeling they would be the right choice, based on the technical expertise, manufacturing quality and ability to work to very short deadlines. But I just wanted to drop in for a chat and see their facilities for myself, before even talking about the We Will Rock You project. When I le

Paraguay - After two and a half years of planning and trials, a Nexo Geo T line array has been commissioned in one of the largest churches in Latin America. Geo T's arrival in the 14,000-capacity Centro Familiar de Adoración in Asunción is the final chapter in a story that began with Oasis.

Alberto Martinez is the manager of the sound team at the Centro Familiar de Adoración. Some years ago he was in the USA, where he heard a Nexo Geo T system running at full throttle on a concert by Oasis, and apparently was so impressed that he accepted an invitation to a demo in Argentina. Meeting with Nexo's LatAm team there convinced him that these loudspeakers were the right choice for the Asunción church project.

Working closely with Nexo's specialist installation engineers, the church's sound team explored all the design configurations thoroughly, not just through software predicti

The system, built almost entirely on VDC products and Van Damme cable delivered "flawless performance" according to Delta Sound technical manager, Mark Powell. "We spent a month in pre-production and five days on site preparing and working through our plans for the night," says Powell. "It's a very high profile event, seen on TV screens all over the world, so total reliability is a minimum requirement.

"That is exactly how it turned out. We did not experience a single glitch on the day and some thanks must go to the technical manager at VDC, Nick Chmara. He provided the honest and reliable advice we have come t

France - GDS were recently commissioned to deliver a bespoke stage manager's console for the world famous Théâtre du Châtelet.

The brief was to provide the theatre with a console that enabled them to integrate their control surfaces and that would give the theatre more functionality and control than they would get from a traditional stage managers desk. The client wanted to control much more than the usual stage managers functionality, requiring a product that enabled third party integration.

Théâtre du Châtelet is situated along the quays of the Seine in Paris. Constructed by Gabriel Davoud in 1862, in its time it was the largest performance hall in Paris and hosted some of the principal tours in Parisian history. The Theatre is a multi-discipline venue hosting a schedule of performances from opera to dance and progressive theatre productions.

UK - The big freeze in December, with snow and ice and sub-Arctic temperatures created problems for outdoor event organisers. Down at Wakehurst Place in Sussex, the country estate of Kew's Royal Botanic Gardens, it was touch-and-go for Show Hire's Nick Chubb and his EV ZX3 system - would both of them survive an outdoor concert in -7C?

Wakehurst Place, the National Trust's most visited property, is famed for its festive Carols which usually attract 3,000 people to a service in front of the largest Christmas tree in the UK. For Nick Chubb, the first alarm bells rang when he had to push his van the last few yards of a 40-mile journey that had taken nearly five hours.

"With temperatures plummeting to -7C, I was concerned for the loudspeakers, wondering at what temperature the rubber would freeze up completely. But they performed superbly which freed me up to be concerned for
