Germany - Since the mid-1600s, the Oberammergau Passionsfestspiele (passion play) has been performed every 10 years in the German village of the same name. The 2010 performances used sound reinforcement for the first time in its history, with a Yamaha PM5D front of house console chosen for the occasion.

2010 marked the 41st season of the play, with 2000 villagers dedicating a year of their lives to the project - none of whom are professional thespians - culminating in 105 performances (plus five public previews) between May and October. Each performance lasted for eight hours, including a three-hour interval.

"In the past, the audience had to resort to reading along in a text book to follow the dialogue," says Michael Kennedy, the 2010 play's sound engineer. "A number of those involved in were sceptical about using sound reinforcement for the first time,

UK - Lighting designer Paula Trounce is a firm fan of the Avolites Tiger Touch and Pearl Expert consoles and the latest Avolites TITAN software, having used both Avo products on tour with UK singer/songwriter Kate Nash.

Trounce is also the house LD at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire venue, where the house desk is an Avo Diamond 4.

The first show that she designed and programmed for Nash was done on a Pearl Expert running TITAN after which they asked her to tour with them. So she had a show everyone was really happy with, but an expedient budget meant the decision was taken to utilize house rigs rather than tour a production.

The opportunity arose for Trounce to try out the Tiger Touch whilst on the European leg of the tour. Above all, the ability to pluck her original design straight from the Pearl Expert and plug it directly into the Tiger Touch proved a great solution. Por

Renee's associate Dominic Schilt mixed the show on a SoundCraft Vi6, feeding radio-mic channel direct outs plus orchestra and reverb submixes to the TiMax Soundhub via optical MADI. The radio-mic handler backstage was Rigobert Sc

Top Lebanese superstars in the Middle East and North Africa, Elisa and Fadl Shaker headlined, along with soft rock band, Wust El-Balad - all performing under 24 PR Lighting XL Beams, supplied by the company's local distributors, Hi-Lights Egypt.

These 300W moving heads offer three beam angle options while the fixture itself uses the Phillips Fast Fit MSR Gold lamp and superior optics to provide an output of 22000 lumens. The result is a versatile, variable speed projector, producing a bi-directional rainbow effect - keeping the atmosphere changing spect

India - The Commonwealth Games Opening & Closing Ceremonies in Delhi turned out to be a slap in the face to the media who were expecting an event of epic failure. Despite inconsistent power, organisational issues, rampant Dengue fever and alleged terrorist threats, the ceremonies were a resounding success.

For audio production company Norwest Productions, it was all par for the course. The company first came to international attention a decade ago when they supplied the audio requirements for the Sydney Olympic Games ceremonies. Since then they have earned the reputation as a world leader in successfully tackling the audio requirements of large scale stadium shows racking up successful events such as two of the three Summer Olympics, both Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games in Doha. This year alone they have serviced the Vancouver Winter Olympics, Singapore Youth Olympics and

The 17-19 June performances are being staged in association with impresario Raymond Gubbay, who staged the first opera at the London arena earlier this year.

Australia - For over 16 years Austage has built a reputation as one of Australia's premier corporate event companies. Managing director Joe De Abreu knows it is important to be able to offer his clients the best in lighting technology.

With this in mind, Joe began scouring the market for a new LED cyc light and when he came across the Chroma-Q Color Force LED batten he knew he had found what he was looking for.

The new Color Force LED batten is super bright and can easily wash up to eight metres. In addition, it's advanced ColorSure RGBA colour and control management technologies deliver a radically increased colour palette, enhanced colour consistency, a high CRI of 92 and theatrical grade dimming.

"The SD8 is quite amazing when considering power versus space," he says. "It gave us very clear output and fu

USA - For more than three decades, the Meadowlands has been a part of life for New York area football fans. When plans were begun to replace the aging arena, some fans were surprised to learn that, rather than a modern domed structure, the new stadium would be built in much the same traditional open-bowl style as the old one.

But while the aerial view of the New Meadowlands Stadium is reminiscent of the original Meadowlands, the similarities stop there. The new stadium is bigger and better in every way, including a host of powerful new A/V and broadcast technologies.

One of the more challenging areas in the stadium is the concession zone, covered by a series of Community R.5 two-way full-range loudspeakers. As Mark Graham, associate with sound design firm WJHW explains, the R.5s were chosen as much for their performance as for their durability.

"The concession areas are
