USA/Germany - Intelix, the US-based manufacturer of audio/video equipment and software, has partnered with Sommer Cable to better serve the European audio-visual market. Effective immediately, Sommer Cable is stocking and supplying Intelix hardware, including their award-winning HDMI, digital signage, and audio/video over twisted pair solutions.

"In Germany, American companies are often considered somewhat conservative and lethargic," says Rainer Blanck, Sommer Cable CEO. "They are not really interested in grooming the German market because it is tiny compared to the US-market. Intelix is different. They are a clearly structured, modern American company with products strongly adapted to the European market. Plus, their technology is of good workmanship, have a very ergonomic and attractive design, and are known for their dependability."

UK - The Saturday night TV show Tonight's The Night is back for its second series and Richard Martin Lighting hotly anticipated which fixtures lighting designer Roger Williams would opt for this time. Tom Sutherland programmed the show.

This season, the lighting rig incorporated a heavy variety of the Clay Paky range including Alpha Spot 575 HPE, Alpha Beam 700 and Alpha Wash 300.

"It's the first time I have used the 700 beams which were astonishingly bright and so versatile. I used just the 700 beams for quite a few numbers throughout the series, they really made the show," says Williams.

The rig also included Martin LC Panels with P3 Controller. Various LED Lights completed the look - including LED Par 36, 2 Lights, iCove QL and Chroma Strips.

Denmark - City Kirken in Arhus has undergone a major refurbishment. One of the church members Peter Rasch reports, "The church completely renovated the building within which it lives. The main worship room was always intended to bring a fresh modern feel and the church members all agreed that we should employ the equally modern technologies of communication, sound, light and video, but with sensitivity. This is not the place for Iron Maiden, but it is a place where people should be excited by what they see and hear."

The Church Committee sought Rasch's advice, "My career has been in providing audio and communications systems. I worked with Informations Teknik in Copenhagen for some years, and now work with Get Visual, a specialist with particular expertise in video in my home town of Arhus. My primary recommendation was for a d&b audiotechnik PA system; speech is

Argentina - Teatro Colón, the main opera house in Buenos Aires and considered one of the best five opera houses in the world, was recently refurbished with a grandMA2 full-size console and a grandMA2 replay unit.

Ernesto Diz was in charge of the lighting system's bid specification. Diz, founder of Estudio Diz, was a professor of lighting design at the Buenos Aires University, and is the lighting and stage designer of several buildings in Argentina and around the world, including Teatro Argentino de la Plata, Teatro Municipal de Bahia Blanca,

This year as last, the festival's sound production was the responsibility of a team from rental company MSE Tontechnik. As well as the variety of the acts performing, the medieval venue - a 60 x 20m courtyard - also posed challenges for the crew of technicians. Belgium - The Vlaamse Opera is an opera company based in Flanders with two venues: one in Antwerp and one in Ghent. The theatre in Antwerp is an amphitheatre, semi-circular in shape; it seats 1,180 people. It takes its cue from classical mythology, the ceiling painting in the auditorium depicts Rhythmus, one of the basic principles of all music: a man surrounded by nine female Muses.

During recent refurbishments, between 2004 and 2007, a completely new ventilation system was installed, the chairs on the ground floor and first floor were replaced, and on other floors they were repaired and the walls were painted in a different colour. The theatre was partially re-equipped with some new audio and video elements, and an Ethernet ring added, as well as new loudspeaker and light cabling. However no changes were made to the acoustics and no new public address installation was planned.

Senior pastor at Bloemfontein, David Kennedy, was eager to replace his existing system with QSC's and when a friend offered to buy the previously installed rig (including sub), he said it was just the break he needed.

"I wrapped up the deal and ran to Toms [QSC's South African distributor] to buy my new K12's. As soon as I had installed them the difference was like night and day; even people untrained, or unobservant of such things, could tell immediately the difference in quality."
