UK - The World Travel Market held at ExCeL last week used four of PSCo's 103" plasmas to relay content to the exhibition's travel professionals from across the globe.

The exhibition offered a seminar, conference and event programme presenting the issues and hot topics of the travel industry. Working with the exhibition since 1995, production company Fred Productions were brought in to produce the main conference set and relay live content and information to the show's visitors.

The World Travel Market is the first exhibition to use four 103" Panasonic plasma screens as a digital signage solution. The screens were positioned in the Boulevard between the exhibition halls to display live conference feeds, information about the upcoming seminars and advertisements for exhibitors at the show, mounted in exhibitor sponsored surrounds.

UAE - ShowTex Middle East has moved to a new site in Sharjah. Managing director Sven Peeters announces, "We've gone from 600sq.m to more than 2000 m2! And the extra space means more possibilities for our customers, faster service, and more refined finishing.

"One of the major reasons for the move was to accommodate the 24mlong high frequency welding machine table. The welding machine is actually built into the floor of the 1000sq.m dedicated mezzanine workshop adding even more area. ShowTex already created some of the Middle East's biggest projection screens.

Now, with the self designed exclusive ShowTex system on site, we're able to produce screens measuring upwards of 500sq.m with super strong seams that are nearly invisible at less than 1mm. For the screens alone we've hired two new specialists and the expanded workshop means there's room for more sewing machines

Sweden - Swedish garage rock band Mando Diao's fifth and most successful album, Give Me Fire, also gives its name to the band's current - and equally successful - European tour. Mando Diao has taken the decision not to follow the current trend for visual overload; music is what their shows are all about and, as a result, the sound system is one of the most important components for their performance.

Landsberg-based event production company, Rain Age, with Martin Heining as head of sound, supplied an extensive audio system that had a DiGiCo SD7 at its FOH position during the German leg of the tour, and now has the additional benefit of an SD8 at monitors for the remainder.

Dispensing with extensive light installations and special effects, Mando Diao concentrates on the business of simply making music in venues across the country with capacities from 5,000 to 10,000 seats

UK - EvenLED, the modular LED cyc backlighting system has continued to win new friends across shows of all genres in the year since it was first supplied by White Light to the UK tour of Mary Poppins - the company having recently supplied systems for new opera, for television, for corporate events and for comedy.

"I think it's the best new piece of kit I've seen in ages - I never want to light a cyc again without it," is how lighting designer Peter Mumford describes his experience with EvenLED on Prima Donna. The new opera, written by Rufus Wainright and performed at this year's Manchester Festival, used an array of 111 panels to light Anthony McDonald's set. "I was able to use EvenLED for the cyc, but also for the back 'glass' wall of an enormous room - and even 'raw and exposed' in intense green for one of the enormous scene changes. The sequence f

Germany - Pink's worldwide Funhouse Tour embraces Sennheiser's microphones and monitoring equipment.

When it comes to microphones and monitoring, Pink relies on the German manufacturer's 2000 and evolution wireless series and also benefits from a few special variants. "Pink uses her SKM 2000 with a special e 935 capsule in silver," explains monitoring engineer Horst Hartmann. Front of house engineer Chris Madden continues: "The handheld has been trouble-free, it sounds fantastic with hardly any EQ. The gain before feedback attributes have been outstanding considering she sings in front of the PA for most of the show."

Chris Madden uses the SKM 2000 with the standard 935 capsule for the background vocals and the sound engineers have also remained faithful to the 2000 Series for the instrument transmitters. "As far as sound quality is concerned, t

UK - The Performance Pavilion is one of the highlights of the new £86 million Medway Campus in Gillingham, which substantially extends the facilities of the MidKent College, officially the county's largest provider of education and training. Construction of the Performance Pavilion presented the ideal opportunity for design and installation specialists Stage Electrics to integrate a Cat 5 infrastructure and RSS digital audio system at the heart of the venue, reaping significant advantages in terms of versatility and cost.

"From the very beginning, MidKent College was able to make meaningful economies," says Darren Beckley, business development manager at Stage Electrics. "The whole building could be wired with a Cat 5 infrastructure, which carries audio, lighting, video and data, which considerably reduced their cabling costs. The choice of the compact RSS M

Germany - On 27 and 28 September, Dynacord staged a Professional Dealer Training course at its headquarters in Straubing. Dealers from the Netherlands and Greece attended the Academy conducted by Frauke Jungbluth, sales manager Dynacord Western Europe. As well as amp construction, the course dealt with a variety of speaker systems (D-Lite, VariLine and Cobra) and mixers (PowerMate and CMS) as well as the DSP260 processor and the new CXM-15 monitor.

During the seminars Frauke Jungbluth said: "We want to ensure that our dealers are not only experts when it comes to our own systems but also well-schooled in the underlying acoustic principles. This theoretical foundation guarantees competent customer support and makes is possible to provide sound individual advice."

Participants were invited to put into practice the theories they had just learned in the course of a numbe

South Africa - The Market Theatre Johannesburg, made its choice of new lighting console after researching and testing the various options for nine months.

In an historical connection, Dan Riley from DWR Distribution, was involved with the installation of the Market Theatre's first desk - a Compact 80 - when he worked there as a technician in the early 1970s. Some 33 years later, he was more than delighted to present them with a slightly newer model... a grandMA2 ultra-light.

Carl Johnson, production manager at the Market reports that various issues influenced their decision to go with MA. "The majority of the theatres/companies that we receive, and also those we send productions to are utilising or migrating to grandMA technology, including some of our international partners. Many Lighting Designers with whom we work regularly speak very favourably about the grandMA, the

UK - The Langham Hotel in London's Portland Place opened in 1865 as Europe's first 'Grand Hotel' and reopened in June 2009 after an £80 million refurbishment, it is the flagship hotel of Langham Hotels International. Beneath the Victorian splendour of its fabric, however, the refurbished Langham, London boasts a hi-tech infrastructure in which PA/VA systems from TOA play a pivotal role.

With 380 guestrooms, three restaurants (including the dazzling Palm Court), a Chuan Spa opening in 2010 and no fewer than 18 different conference spaces, The Langham, London is as extensive as its impressive façade suggests.

Systems integrator Safetech Systems designed, supplied, installed and commissioned a complete voice alarm set-tup for the The Langham 18 months ago, with three racks of TOA's VX-2000 at the hub of the system. Since then, the system has been upgraded to take into acco

UK - Piggott's, a leading UK branding, festive lighting and marquee hire company won a new four year term contract to light Oxford Street, to complement other West End contracts, including Regent Street, Bond Street, Marylebone High Street and South Molton Street. This year's display on 3rd November contained over 500,000 LED bulbs and saw around 50,000 Londoners flock to the city to enjoy the switch on display.

The switch on tied in with the world premiere of Disney's new 3D adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, timings were carefully co-ordinated to give the crowds the "wow" factor and for the first time ever included a joint switch on with Regent Street and Leicester Square (not lit by Piggott's).

Star of A Christmas Carol, Jim Carrey turned on the lights at Oxford Circus with British celebrities Colin Firth turning on the Regent Street l

UK - Summit Steel is supplying rigging to the latest UK and European section of Pink's Funhouse world tour, and also co-ordinated and supplied all rigging and automation requirements for Elton John's Red Piano UK and European tour.

Summit was chosen to supply the Pink tour by the production's head rigger Dave Rowe, who comments, "I was extremely keen to use Summit for the quality and good condition of their equipment and the highly professional attitude of their crew".

Rowe and Summit's Jon Bray spent considerable time in putting the package together which includes over 100 roof points to facilitate the hanging of lighting, PA and video equipment, with 120 Lodestar motors and all the necessary steels to suspend approximately 39 tonnes of kit in the air.

Rowe explains that the show design requires that rigging for lighting, set and aerial performers ar

USA - Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, recently enhanced its sound system with custom loudspeakers from EAW. The stadium opened its doors in 2003 and has since hosted a number of notable sporting events. Eagles fans are notoriously passionate, and an upgrade to its PA system was needed to effectively match and cut through their volume.

A/V consulting firm Coffeen Fricke and Associates developed a complex specification for the stadium's system, and after considering several manufacturers, EAW was chosen, as they could provide that solution and manufacture the product to exacting specifications to meet the installation deadline. The sale was made by Columbia, Maryland-based Audio Associates, and the installation was handled by the Columbia-based Large Projects Group of the A/V integration company AVI-SPL (headquartered in Tampa, Florida).

Italy - RCF has recently provided the audio system for the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi, one of the residences of the Royal House of Savoy, which was built by architect Filippo Juvarra in 1731. This outstanding palace, located in the little town of Stupinigi near Turin, has been awarded World Heritage listing by Unesco.

The project has been designed by the RCF Project Design Office, based on the original design made by Sergio Berno from the EL Engineering Service of Turin. The installation has been completed by Orion Gesta under the supervision of engineer Ivan Catellani.

The main audio system is the RX4000, a completely integrated system for voice evacuation, paging and background music and is EN 60849 CEI 100-55 compliant.

The main control unit manages two more units, located in other parts of the building and are connected to the first through Cat 5e UTP cable. All th

UK - With the opening of the prestigious Westfield Shopping Centre in West London, earlier in 2009 exterior media specialists Ocean Outdoor installed three Lighthouse LED screens nearby on the A3220/A402 Holland Park roundabout. The screens have proved an outstanding success and Ocean has now completed the next phase of the project by providing two more Lighthouse screens for Westfield, this time over the dual carriageway section of the A3220.

Despite being one of the shortest A roads in the UK, the A3220 is also one of the busiest, forming a vital link between Clapham on the south and the A40 at White City. So the overbridge at the northeast corner of the Westfield site was the ideal location for further Lighthouse screens to complement the highly successful installation at the Holland Park roundabout, just to the south.

Two screens have been installed, one facing northbound

UK - London-based Subfrantic Production Services (SPS) added 16 stacks of Turbosound Aspect touring boxes to its original 16 stack Floodlight system around four years ago. A couple of months ago Subfrantic decided to expand further, taking the system five-way and more than doubling its inventory of hire stock.

SPS's Sean Murphy comments, "Our original Aspect rig has been going out two to three times per week since we bought it and we've been getting fantastic results every time, so as our volume of work has been building up it seemed logical to buy some more.

"We only really needed a few more boxes, but in our usual style we decided to go all out and get the system we always wanted it to be. So now we have 36 stacks of TA-890Hs with 16 twin 18" TSW-218s, six amp racks with two LMS-D26s in each, four sets of 3 wide flyware and cabling for days. It's all configure

This was announced yesterday by Volker Bartels, spokesman for the Sennheiser Executive Team. "We would like to benefit from the strength of the Sennheiser and Neumann brands in this business area, too. Neumann and Sennheiser are firmly established in the studio and installed sound areas, respectively, and promise a much better market penetration than is at present possible under the brand name of Klein + Hummel."

Georg Neumann GmbH, Berlin, will become responsible for the studio monitor business, while an optimised installed sound portfolio will be continued by Sennheiser. "Under these well-known brands, we hope to considerably increase sales

Switzerland - In Autumn of 2009 Lausanne's vast Theatre de Beaulieu hosted a landmark production of Les Miserables, the first ever version in its native French form to be staged in Switzerland's French-speaking Romande sector. Keen to get it just right for such an auspicious debut, director Gerard Demierre engaged sound designer Thomas Strebel of audiopool to create a cutting-edge source-oriented reinforcement system based around the TiMax Tracker radar tracking system and TiMax2 SoundHub audio matrix.

Sixteen actors wore miniature UWB TiMax Tracker (TT) transmitter Tags which were tracked by six TT Sensors installed around the stage and the auditorium. The TiMax Tracker software used an automatic calibration routine to instantaneously map the stage area in three dimensions based on some simple measured sensors location data. Thereafter the system followed the actors' mov

Qatar - Doha-based Creative Communication Group (CCG) supplied the Doha Tribeca Film Festival with light and sound equipment, including KF760 Long-Throw Line Array Modules from EAW.

The festival kicked off on 29 October and lasted for four days, with activities and screening held at several venues. The venue Souq Waqif hosted a special screening of The Mummy (Al-Momia), recently restored by Martin Scorsese's World Cinema Foundation.

Jalal Dudin, managing partner of CCG, stated: "We used EAW KF760 at Souq Waqif to provide the sound for the screening of The Mummy. The sound quality and surround-sound configuration of EAW speakers projected the movie's sound effects magnificently, especially since it was an open air screening. We have also used EAW KF730 Compact Line Array Modules at the auditorium, which was set up at the Qatar Museum of Islamic Art gal

Norway - One industry which has become a prolific user of Yamaha's DME range of digital mixing engines is Norwegian cinema, with most of the country's top grossing screens now sporting Yamaha equipment.

The Norsk Film Institute (NFI) features a DME installation and is literally the axle upon which the Norwegian film industry revolves, with over 2000 screenings a year in its Oslo premises. Around half of these are previews of major international releases for press and cinema owners, so having the best sound and vision is a fundamental requirement.

The rest of the industry has been quick to follow the NFI's example, cinema owners seeing the many benefits that installing Yamaha-based digital audio systems bring to their facilities.

Unique Cinema Systems (UCS) is one of Norway's major suppliers to the country's cinema industry and the company, which introduced the Yamaha DME64N

UK - Having thoroughly enjoyed their union at the recent PLASA show, Red Square Audio and Gearsource Europe have continued working together to increase their respective market goals.

RSA MD Paul Nicholson explains: "Due to the economic downturn I was looking at ways of making what we believe are already extremely competitively priced products, namely the Tannoy VQ Live and the Innovason Eclipse, even more affordable. It's clear that some rental companies are reluctant to enter into finance schemes when interest rates are virtually at zero, yet lenders are still asking for 10% + APR interest on leasing and hire purchase deals.

So, we decided that one particular route to owning new cutting edge audio products would be to offer a brokerage scheme whereby Gearsource Europe could directly manage a deal to move on a customer's existing or redundant equipment in order to release
