UK - The festive period saw AV solutions specialist PSP service two very different Christmas events in Birmingham. Despite being very different in content, however, they were united in the large scale, high production values that PSP were required to deliver.

Denmark - On the evening of 17 January 17th, Danmarks Radio (DR), Denmark's national public service broadcaster, christened its new Concert Hall in °restaden with a series of eclectic concerts, an event that also marked the debut of the building's innovative animated façade.

As opera, classical, jazz, pop and rock resounded through the venue's four studios, the exterior of the building came alive in a mix of light, colour and pattern from Martin Professional Exterior 1200 Image Projectors.

The idea for the flexible façade was created by celebrated French architect Jean Nouvel, designer of the new arts venue. Eight designers, five technicians and creative manager at DR then realised the complex solution.

A total of 34 Martin Exterior 1200 Image Projectors cast colour changing light and moving images onto the building's 14,000sq.m façade.

For the theatre, the company provided 22 high speed (0 - 240 fpm) hoists with 2000-lb. capacit

Australia - The Franciscan church of St. Mary Immaculate is located on the east side of Sydney. To improve the sound of the existing system located in the church, R&B Sound & Vision chose the D.A.S. Audio Artec and Factor systems.

D.A.S. Audio distributor in Australia, Magma Systems & Engineering, offered their considerable experience in the installation of D.A.S. systems in religious centres. They recommended the use of the new Artec systems. Specifically, four white Artec 26 sound boxes were placed vertically in the altar area. These systems, ideal for near field applications, offer clean cut and sleek styling fit perfectly in any type of architectural space, says the company.

On either side of the hall, four white Factor 5 systems were used for paging and background music. These two-way propylene monitors offer precise directional sound symmetry. Pete Hotson of Magna System

Spain - The Goya Theatre, which was founded in 1914, first started its theatrical activity in 1916 and was later converted into an important theatre in the city of Barcelona. In addition to being used as the headquarters of the Aragonese Centre, the theatre has staged productions in which many famous have taken part.

In 2004, the theatre was forced to close and was on the verge of ceasing its activities, but the Focus Group took charge of bringing it back to life in order to prevent the loss of one of the most emblematic artistic and drama centres in the city.

The theatre has a capacity for 520 people, including both the tiered stalls and the amphitheatre. The remodelling project has a cost of 3.7 million euros, of w

USA - Lighting for a concert video shoot featuring Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana performing eight songs to be aired in the promotion of her upcoming album release and mega-hit Disney Channel series was designed by Lee Rose of Design Partners.

Held outdoors before a live - and very vocal - audience at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, CA, the concert was performed on a full stage set created by Tom McPhillips of Atomic Design . One of Rose's lighting challenges was to add excitement to four pieces of scenery used to surround video columns on the stage. "Tom (McPhillips) had come up with a set design that included four video columns," said Rose. "The surround to each column was a piece of scenery that looked kind of lonely."

Wanting to tie this scenery into the show's colour and movement, Rose positioned six Impression LED moving heads from Elation Pr

Australia - The Wesley Centre for Hyperbaric Medicine is located in the Sandford Jackson Building on the campus of Brisbane's Wesley Hospital, the only private day hospital facility of this nature in Australia. The facility utilises the hyperbaric chamber to treat conditions such as decompression illness, non-healing wounds and radiation induced injuries.

Communications between the nursing attendant inside the chamber and the medical staff outside is a priority. The previous communications system had its limitations and was recently damaged as a result of the external fire sprinklers flooding the unit. In consultation with Fink Engineering the Clear-Com FreeSpeak digital wireless system was recommended.

"The metal is inches thick and you cannot hear anything so if you don't have a good communications system you're really in strife," remarked Sharon Peut, nurse manage

Australia - Last year the Sydney Opera House hosted Le Grand Cirque which turned out to be the highest grossing show they had ever had. UK-based Storm Lighting was re-invited to design the lighting for the return tour which ran this January at the Opera House. The design was by Pete Kramer with guidance from an old colleague of his Gavin Norris, now a full time production manager for the opera house.

The show was a tricky feat due to the high rig trim height and weight loading restrictions of the listed building. Fortunately, for the first time, Kramer had Vari*Lite luminaires in his rig. "In this situation, with the high trim height, I think the Vari-Lites were definitely the best fixtures for the job," he remarked. "We really needed the VL3000s for their brightness and throw, but also due to the restrictions on the roof, we could use fewer of them. I've f
