India - The NSE Exhibition Complex (formerly the Bombay Exhibition Centre) in Mumbai has been announced as the venue for the first PALA / Install India exhibition, in a switch from the originally announced Andheri Sports Complex. This move has been prompted by a greater than anticipated interest by international and regional exhibitors, and a consequent increase in the projected number of expected visitors, say organisers IIR.

PALA India will be held from 5-7 October 2006 in Mumbai, the event is based on the successful model of the PALME exhibition in Dubai aimed specifically at the events, entertainment and installation technology sectors. The show will also see the introduction of the hugely popular Install brand into the Indian market - a dedicated vertical show aimed specifically at the commercial and residential installation and integration markets. The three day show will

UK - Channel Four's new flagship chat show, which takes over from Richard and Judy for six months of the year, is the highly entertaining Paul O'Grady Show. Paul O'Grady is famous for his larger-than-life colourful personality, something that is also reflected in the lighting used on the show.

Dave Davey has been lighting Paul O'Grady for two series now and has chosen to use 900mm Pulsar Chroma Strips to illuminate the 18m x 2m high columns. With 90° beam angle the Chroma Strips provide a multitude of colours, which can be easily controlled with a Chroma Zone. The Chroma Strip is an ideal architectural lighting fixture to use for the columns on the set.

Dave has also chosen to use the Mac 500 for the show. The Mac 500 is a durable and reliable industry standard profile. The silent fan cooling is ideal for a show like Paul O'Grady where the requirement to reduce lighting no

The company provides a complete production service for a wide range of shows ranging from one-off corporate and music events to theatre tours and concerts: Paul Bellucci, who runs the lighting and staging side of the company, first saw the Vista demonstrated at PLASA. Having been a JANDS owner/user for several years, from an Event through to a Jands Hog 250 and Hog 1000, but for the last year had been looking for something new.

In February, Paul decided to get out of his 'comfort zone' so together with Tom, a younger member of the lighting team, took a day's training at A.C. Lighting and came away with a Vista T2. The console's first outing was for The Nth Fest, a groundbreaking twelve hour Christian Rock Festival featuring over 30 bands.

UAE - The Emirates Palace Hotel, recently built on the beach of the Gulf of Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, shows off the beauty of Arab culture, combining traditional themes and reflecting the national identity of this affluent country.

Majestic, impressive, covering an area of 1 million square metres and surrounded by a beautiful garden and lawns, the Emirates Palace Hotel has a unique and multi-faceted structure, with façades reproducing the different nuances of colour of the sand in the Arabian desert.

The palace is an architectural marvel and an international landmark, with some 114 domes, all of which are covered with glass mosaic tiles. UK - HSL is supplying full lighting production and crew for the Beautiful South's new Superbi tour, designed and operated by Dave Byars, and currently on its first UK and Irish leg. The tour is being project managed for HSL by Mike Oates who says: "It's great to be working with Dave. He spent three days in our demo room pre-programming elements of the show, and we're honoured that both he and tour manager Simon Foster have trusted a new company to supply the kit."

Byars is renowned for the quirky, skilful blending of imagination and idiosyncrasy in his designs. The starting point for the tour was custom-made set of drapes, consisting of ruched red wine-coloured stage drapes, borders and riser scrims and a grey upstage tab drape. This gives the stage a plush, textured feel that's part theatre and partly a modern ironic take on the classic 1950s Mecca ballroom loo

USA - This summer the Red Hot Chili Peppers will hit the road to support their new CD, Stadium Arcadium, with custom equipment from Tomcat USA. Working with Five Point Productions, based out of Atlanta, Georgia, Tomcat created a 64ft (20m) span of custom 30" x 30" spigoted truss.

During the show, four video modules will move back and forth along parallel I-Beams that run along the bottom of the truss. Since these panels weigh approximately 4,000lbs (1.8 tonnes) apiece, special design concerns had to be taken into consideration. In addition to the truss, Tomcat manufactured six custom pick-up bars designed to attach in-line with the truss spigots in the top face, as well as dolly frames that will be utilized to transport the truss section from venue to venue.

The tour kicked off in May including a surprise show at New York City's Irving Plaza then moving on to schedul

The DN9848Es were supplied, along with six KT DN370s graphic equalisers for general inventory top-up, by Shuttlesound. Sonix Audio's Paul Goold says: "It was a two-way choice between different brands, but we felt that the Klark-Teknik unit was ultimately more future-proof than the alternative."

Audio-Video Group, a design-build system integrator based in Frederick, Maryland, provided the design of the new sound system in addition to heading up its installation. The company chose to go with a distributed, mono approach to insure complete coverage throughout the 300-capacity room, which is wider than it is deep.

"This new system represents a big improvement over the 15-year-old version it replaced," says Charles Cassell of Audio-Video Group. "We've all been quite pleased with the sonic upgrade in every aspect of reinforcement at services and other events held in the sanctuary." Four Inter-M power amplifiers (two model L1800 and two model L2400) are rack-

UK - Strand Lighting has announced that its new Project office, located in Cambridge, is now operational. UAE - Mall of the Emirates in Dubai is one of the largest shopping malls outside of North America. But that is not what makes it unique. Although the Mall features the usual amenities of a large shopping centre, its claim to fame is something altogether new for a desert environment - specifically, a one-of-a-kind indoor ski complex.

Located in the heart of what is deemed 'New Dubai,' the 223,000sq.m centre offers a full range of shopping, leisure, and entertainment activities. Officially opened in November 2005 it is home to over 400 retailers and includes Ski Dubai, the five-star Kempinski Hotel, and Magic Planet, the largest indoor family entertainment centre in the country.
