Ticketing Issues - A new Ticketmaster pricing system, which alters the price of tickets based on demand, is being criticised by both fans and industry experts. Called dynamic pricing, it has been used in the UK for recent sales by Harry Styles, Coldplay and Blackpink. The system is regularly used in the US, where the resale market is a lot bigger, and touting is more prevalent. Ticketmaster say it is being used to try to stop touts, and to give more money to artists. But fans say they are being priced out of concerts, with some tickets doubling in price.
On the Ticketmaster page for Harry Styles' tour, a notice explains: "These tickets vary in price driven by demand from fans, similar to airline tickets and hotel rooms. We give fans an opportunity to safely buy official tickets for the events they love, right up to the date of the show."

The Netherlands - Held between 19-21 August 2022 at Evenemententerrein Walibi Holland in Biddinghuizen, Lowlands Festival is the largest and multi-day festival in The Netherlands. Themed as “A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise”, the festival is spread out over a natural area which includes its famous campsite and a variety of stages offering a wide variety of bands, DJs, speakers and theatre. Headliners for 2022 included the Arctic Monkeys, Stromae, Sam Fender, Amelie Lens and Tash Sultana, and attracted over 65,000 visitors.
The festival’s technical supplier, Ampco Flashlight Rental, catered for the audio and lighting for all stages with Ayrton taking a prominent place on each stage. “Every type of Ayrton fixture was present from Mistral to Huracán,” says Ampco Flashlight Rental’s account manager, Mathijs de Vries.

Finland - Rapper Pyhimys staged a three-hour performance at Helsinki’s Ice Hall in September, designed to celebrate his 20 years of industry success. Key to the show was categorised themes recalling milestone career moments, with cleverly created graphics taking the audience on a journey through time. At the core of the visuals was a Hippotizer Boreal+ Media Server, expertly programmed and operated by the team at Visual45.
A focus of the stage design was a large, semi-transparent upstage LED screen made up of ROE Vanish8 panels, with two samller IMAG screens stage left and right, consisting of ROE MC9. The back screen was raised to reveal Pyhimys and his musicians, before being lowered down into place to display graphics created by Visual45 and driven through the Boreal+. The IMAG screens were used mainly for live feed.

USA - Chicago’s three-day Riot Fest, held annually in the city’s Douglass Park, again proved a triumph for Martin Audio’s MLA PA and the company’s long-serving rental partner, Technotrix.
With five stages set within a relatively small site, tight sound control to avoid spillage into the surrounding neighbourhood is paramount. Technotrix audio dept manager, Brent Bernhardt has long known that he can depend on the manufacturer’s proprietary ‘Hard Avoid’ and cardioid pre-set adjustments to ensure cancellation and rear rejection on the three stages populated by the Martin Audio systems, to prevent sound bleeding into areas where it’s not required.

USA - The 2022 MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards) was staged at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New York, and lit for the third year by Tom Sutherland of DX7 Design.
Tom, known for his fresh and innovative approach, utilised 229 Robe moving lights among others on a vast lighting rig that helped emcees Nikki Minaj, LL Cool J and Jack Harlow bring the onstage action – featuring 11 live performances – alive in a megamix of beams, colour, textures, and movement.

Denmark - Skive Kulturcenter (Cultural Centre) is a vibrant multipurpose entertainment hub in the city of Skive, that serves all the Jutland region with music, films, arts, and sports activities. Its main Concert Hall which stages international gigs and events accommodates 1200 (seated) and 1800 (standing).
The complex also has three handball arenas, a swimming centre, a gym and a cinema hall for movies, and the Skive Theatre, a separate venue in the city, is also run by the same team.

From 29 October to 6 November, Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena will play host to over 500 of the world’s greatest gymnasts from over 75 countries, and after an extensive consultation process, ADI have been chosen to lead the transformation of three venues across the ACC Liverpool complex.
With the event theme, ‘Welcome to our World’, ADI will be managing all of the digital engagement platforms throughout the M&S Bank Arena, Fan Zone and Athlete’s After Party, including the technical delivery of dynamic content, audio and lighting for the sports presentation elements. In addition to this, 750sqm of modular LED will be installed, creating 15 digital touchpoints for spectators to interact with.

Belgium - APEX has added numerous new features to its CloudPower installation amplifiers with the public release of V1.2.1 firmware and updates to its IntelliCloud remote control software.
Among more than a dozen feature updates, V1.2.1 now allows global device audio presets to be uploaded or downloaded for backup and fast configuration of multiple amplifiers. The new firmware standardises amplifier channel and bridged channel gain across all four models in the series, from the 4 x 350W CP354 to the 4 x 3000W CP 3004. Similarly, limiter values are now the same across the range, and limiter threshold range value is identical in normal and bridged modes. After 15 seconds without user input, CloudPower’s front panel menu now auto-exits and the daylight visible OLED display dims to prolong screen life.
