UK - British luxury fashion multi-retailer Flannels’ new flagship store in Liverpool is attracting customers with an ongoing series of projections onto its impressive façade with the help of a Hippotizer Nevis+ Media Server.
The 120,000sq.ft, seven storey megastore, in the heart of Liverpool, opened in the summer with a curated projection show, highlighting the in-house brands and offering a sense of what visitors can expect inside. The success of the beamed video content led to the projections becoming a permanent installation, with an Epson 20K lumen projector positioned on the roof of a building opposite the Flannels store. Beneath the projector is a weather-proofed rack where the Nevis+ is rigged and constantly running.

USA – The University of Houston recently took advantage of the University Outreach Programme from Vari-Lite, which enables emerging lighting design students to elevate their production looks and facilitates hands-on professional fixture experience. The latest collaborative project saw Andrew Archer, who is undertaking a BFA in Technical Theatre Production, create an inspired design for the play The Learned Ladies using VL2600 SPOT luminaires.
Archer took delivery of six VL2600 SPOT fixtures as part of the programme, working with Bobby Harrell, Vari-Lite sales and applications specialist at Signify, who spearheads the initiative. Archer says he was impressed by the powerful features and capabilities of these luminaires and harnessed their power to design the lighting for the production of The Learned Ladies, adapted from the Molière original.

USA - The American Society of Theatre Consultants (ASTC) mourns the loss of long-time member and Fellow, James “Jim” Read, FASTC, who passed away on November 2, 2022.
Read served as a president of the ASTC and was a constant presence at organisation events. Even as he retired from consulting and moved to emeritus status, Read was often present online or in person, always contributing observations and information.
Read was born in Fulton, KY in 1933, where he built his first theatre in his basement, complete with a stage, screen, footlights, and a control booth, in 1948. He rarely strayed far from the business after that. He continued in high school where he and a crew of friends ran a community high school auditorium; he apparently kept up with members of that crew until his death.
Before joining the US Navy as an officer and pilot Read attended the Universit

Spain - Lynx Pro Audio has announced the availability of Rainbow 3D, its electro-acoustical prediction software for loudspeaker systems, boasting ‘comprehensive high-speed simulation in a three-dimensional environment’.
Building on the company’s existing 2D software and led by Raúl Jordán from Lynx Pro Audio’s R&D department, Rainbow 3D has been coded from scratch in a five-year in-house development process. In tandem with this, over the course of this year new spherical measurements of the company’s full loudspeaker portfolio have been performed in their recently built anechoic chamber.
Carlos Matalí, R&D manager, notes: “Although 5-degree polar resolution is commonly used, products such as line array modules generate extremely narrow beams at high frequencies, so we use two degrees for those. This means measuring and storing exponentially more

USA - Alice In Chains (AIC) hadn’t performed a live concert in three years when the band took the stage on 10 August at The Star Lake Pavilion in Seattle, but as the fans outside Pittsburgh discovered that night, and as thousands more at 29 other venues would learn over the next three months, it was well worth the wait.
Keeping pace with the band’s 15-song set and capturing their sounds visually, was an intense, multi-faceted lighting design by Scott Holthaus with assistance from Cort Lawrence that included over 40 Chauvet Professional fixtures, which like the rest of the rig, was supplied by Bandit Lites.
Like the music it supported, the Holthaus-Lawrence lightshow started out with a bang. Moments after AIC walked on to a darkened stage, illuminated only with hints of deep blue light, the rig erupted, led by the five raked LED video fingers over its centre. Rising

Europe - Nearly 45 years after founding Belgian event staging pioneer Stageco, Hedwig De Meyer is stepping down from his leadership role, and has named Hans Willems as Stageco Belgium’s new executive CEO, effective 1 January 2023.
The move, says De Meyer, 68, was intended to take place two years ago but was delayed due to the pandemic lockdown. “Now that our business has begun to stabilise after a very busy summer, the time feels right to pass the baton to Hans, who gave us every confidence that he was the most logical choice of successor,” he explains.

USA - Brompton Technology will demonstrate its latest tools at LDI in Las Vegas. Brompton will be exhibiting in booth #1005, showing its Tessera LED processors and the latest version of its accompanying Tessera software.
Tessera Software v3.4, released last month, introduces new features including Extended Bit Depth and Stacking, to help boost both LED panel performance and production efficiencies. Extended Bit Depth unlocks up to 3.3 additional bits of precision, which offers 2 to 3 stops of additional dynamic range on camera, and also reduces visual artifacts. Stacking streamlines production by allowing for multiple processors in a setup to be controlled together in unison, rather than users having to apply adjustments to each processor individually.
Additionally, Brompton’s 10-year anniversary falls during LDI. The company will celebrate at the LDI Circle Bar on S

Europe - Wireless LED lighting specialist Astera has launched the RuntimeExtender – a ‘battery plate’ tool for lighting techs working with Astera products in all sectors including live shows and events.
RuntimeExtender is compatible with most Astera products – Titan, Helios & Hyperion Tubes, HydraPanel, PixelBrick, etc – and allows connection to an external battery so spare camera batteries can be used to power the Astera units in situations where the internal batteries might run out e.g., protracted shoots, longer running events where longer than standard run times are required for the lights.
This could be on video shoots, live or streaming / hybrid events and conferences, and especially when some Astera fixtures might be positioned in inaccessible and challenging places.
When the connected lights are running at low level or switched off, the int

USA - Surrounded by the scenic views of Alamogordo, the 800-seat Christ Community Church was struggling to provide quality audio with their aging and original PA. With the decision made to upgrade their system, the task of finding a modern solution capable of delivering great sound evenly to every seat was given to technical director Jacob Pierce. With a big assist from industry experts Michael Garrison Associates (MGA), Pierce found the solution he was looking for with a custom Anna and Otto ADAPTive system from Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW).
The new EAW upgrade consists of a total of 12 Anna loudspeaker arrays, four Otto subwoofers and eight EAW JF8 2-way loudspeakers. The eight JF8’s are used as front-fill speakers and are spread out evenly from the back of the platform in a trapezoidal pattern. The new EAW ADAPTive PA system is run through an Allen & Heath dLive con

USA - Nate Haber of Extraterrestrial Visuals believes in serving the client. “I think it’s important to note that design and programming are part of a service industry,” Haber says, in the middle of working with Lorna Shore on their national The Pain Remains Tour. “My main goal is to align my vision with that of my client. They know what they like and don’t like. Of course, on this tour, it helps that my design preferences line up with their vision.
“This is a metal band, and an extremely heavy one at that,” said Haber. “So yes, our show is dark and moody, but in the age of social media, it’s also important that fans be able to see the band, especially one that’s as well-known to them as Lorna Shore. It’s also important that they be able to take good photos and videos. So, I try to strike a balance and add a higher level of light at different moments.
