UK - Huge events are the norm for Delta Sound but when faced with a major product launch in an aircraft hangar, additional challenges faced the sound design team.

Appointed by brand experience agency Jack Morton Worldwide, the size of the venue was not the only problem because significant movement was also involved, requiring 24 surround sound zones plus significant LFE. This was achieved with 12 powerful yet detailed point source speakers either side of the seating block and enough strategically placed subwoofers to thrill the audience. This system was mirrored on the other side of the 'catwalk' style staging to complete the 24 zones.

This was not something that could be easily managed with the existing portfolio of equipment, so the search began for something that could do the job. The Delta team had encountered Pyramix being used at the London Olympics in 2012 and wondered

Utopium's six figure investments have added significantly to the choice of modern LED lighting the company can offer event organisers and lighting designers.

Utopium's managing director Colin Bodenham comments, "Having listened to clients, applied our experience and researched recent product releases, we've added some revolutionary lights to our inventory. LED technology means improved sustainability and economy through reduced power consumption and being small means less transport and weight loading. The colours and output from these relatively small fittings are incredible and we are all looking forward to having less weight to rig in roofs or truss."

There are four key elements of the investment:

ETC's new Cobalt desks have been impressing lighting designers and board operators with their quick and efficient operating style since they were launched at PLASA 2013. There are now two desks in the range: Cobalt 20 and Cobalt 10. Each has the same power, but the smaller Cobalt 10 has a reduced footprint, allowing it to fit into smaller venues.

The Source Four LED Series 2 Lustr fixture updates the hugely successful Source Four LED line. Puerto Rico - Calle 13 is one of Latin America's most successful bands, having won 19 Latin Grammy Awards and two US Grammy Awards. Frequently controversial and with an eclectic musical style, Calle 13 has a devoted following and its current tour, which travels to South, Central and North America, as well as Europe and Asia, is filling stadiums, arenas and theatres everywhere it goes. Two DiGiCo SD8-24s are along for the ride.

Front of House engineer Luis Irizzary first worked with the band back in 2007 and 2008, and having returned to the Calle 13 fold in 2012, he has been working with the band since. His reasons for using the SD8-24 are two-fold: the channel count, "I use 58 mic inputs on 52 channels at Front of House, but the console is still not maxed out," he says; and its compact size.

"The Front of House and monitor console share one rack," Luis expl

UK - Paul Nunnington, product manager at Sennheiser UK, passed away peacefully on 9 June - his 42nd birthday - after a brave six-year battle with cancer.

Paul ('Nunners'), began his career at Project Music in 1987 and went on to work for Shuttlesound, Sound Technology and Sennheiser. Close friend Stephanie Dell of Sound Marketing told LSi: "He loved his work and spoke warmly of the great friends he had made in our industry. His dry-witted story-telling was legendary - his observations were funny and sharp but always affectionately delivered. Nunners was an incredibly popular guy. In the ten years I knew him, I never heard a bad word said about him. He loved nothing better than to be with his people, at home and at work. First and foremost Paul was a family man who absolutely adored his wife Karen and children Alex and Cara. Paul approached his illness from the outset with e

USA - A RoomMatch system from Bose Professional Systems was recently installed to solve the PA needs of Church of the Apostles, a mega-church in the Buckhead district of Atlanta. The installation was performed by Nashville-based firm CTS Audio, based on specifications arrived at in collaboration between CTS, church leadership and Bose personnel.

Interestingly, the church's media and communications director, Kevin Knox, was initially lukewarm on the idea of a Bose system in the sanctuary. He notes, "I just didn't associate the Bose brand with professional products." His mind was changed after he encountered a RoomMatch system demo at WFX. "[The system] had a real warmth that you don't usually get with a big PA system. It felt like it was right there in the room with you. I got the sense that it would be able to give us what we really needed: good intelligibility in

The stadium will host four group games and next round games, a quarter final game, and the final.
