Germany - Duran Audio has recently released the latest version of its Digital Directivity Analysis software (DDA). DDA was first developed as a tool to allow sound designers to implement Duran Audio's powerful Digital Directivity Synthesis algorithm.

But what is DDS? Back in 2000 Dr Evert Start from Duran Audio published a paper on Digital Directivity Synthesis at the IOA's Reproduced Sound Conference in the UK. DDS is a technology that uses FIR filters to allow sound designers to control both the near field and far field dispersion of a loudspeaker array using a powerful algorithm from Duran Audio called Digital Directivity Synthesis. DDS was immediately implemented in AXYS Target Line Arrays and Intellivox arrays. UK - Lighting designer Rick Fisher has chosen ETC's Selador Desire LED fixtures to help light David Hare'sThe Judas Kiss at the Duke of York's Theatre. Set in 1895, Hare's play tells the dramatic true story of the betrayal, imprisonment and downfall of famed playwright Oscar Wilde.

"For the kind of work I'm doing - a subtle piece with the lighting concentrating on moods, emotional states and times of day - I wanted lighting which doesn't draw attention to itself," says Fisher. "The Desire fixtures give a very nice, natural looking light, which was a pleasant surprise and a real advance." The best thing, from a lighting designer's point of view, Fisher explains, is that no one noticed the difference between the Desire LED and conventional fixtures in the hybrid lighting rig.

The Netherlands - Stadsschouwburg Theatre in Utrecht opened in 1941 and has become one of the best known theatres in the central Netherlands, staging a wide variety of shows from traditional theatre and cabaret, to dance, opera, circus and youth performances. It has two main auditoriums, which have 1000 and 225 seats, and is known for its high technical standards. It now boasts an ASL digital intercom system.

When Arnout Verdonk, Stadsschouwburg's sound technician, started looking for a new intercom system he put several to test, and the whole technical team was involved in making the right decision.
