UK - Vortex Lighting Ltd was recently commissioned to provide the lighting for a Carols of Light concert in one of Britain's favourite buildings, Durham Cathedral. The aim of the concert was to raise funds for both the Durham Cathedral Music Endowment Fund and The Sunderland AFC Foundation. Lessons were read by HRH The Countess of Wessex GCVO, Sir Tim Rice, The Rt Hon David Miliband MP, Kate Adie OBE, Steve Cram MBE and Channel 4's George Clarke while the concert included performances by Joe McElderry, Rick Wakeman, Alan Price, Barbara Dickson OBE, Sir Thomas Allen, Clare Teal and Kathryn Tickell.

Durham Cathedral is a very busy building, so the time available to rig and programme the equipment was somewhat limited, but Vortex's crew of just 4 installed all of the equipment, including the stage in just over three hours and removed in less than two hours, says the company.

Germany - Rental specialists SLD (Sound Light Design) based in Wesel near Dusseldorf have recently invested in a Uniline line array system from French manufacturer APG. The system was supplied as a complete turnkey system, fully flightcased with standard racks and Lab.gruppen FP Series amplifiers.

Supplied by APG's German distributor, Audio Technica, the system comprises 12 UL210 full range mid/hi cabinets, six UL115B bass enclosures and four TB118S subwoofers managed by an APG DMS26 digital loudspeaker processor.

Rolf Feldmann, owner of SLD, comments, "We already have a number of APG speaker systems as part of our inventory, namely DX12, DX15 and SMX15 monitor systems and TB115S and TB118S subs. We are convinced by the quality and acoustic properties of these systems, so selecting Uniline as our main line array system was an easy decision for us.

Spain - dBTechnologies speakers were chosen by rental company Angel Dominguez Sonido (AD Sonido) for last month's Davis Cup tennis final at the Estadio Olímpico in Seville. Comprising a surprisingly small number of DVA T4, S20 and Opera Digital 410D boxes for the space, the sound system was able to deliver clear and comprehensive sound to some 25,000 spectators.

Four clusters of six DVA T4 were hung from the temporary roof at a height of 27m providing for the crowds in the upper seating. Sixteen Opera 410D modules each installed at a height of 10m meant those nearer the action could hear. A further four Opera 410D speakers ensured that the press stand also had ample coverage. Two DVA S20 subwoofers could be found at the bottom of the towers, covering the main terraces.

UK - Blackburn-based lighting and visuals rental company HSL is supplying specialist LED light sources to the current series of the popular ITV quiz show, The Chase, in the process renewing its long and fruitful working relationship with leading TV lighting designer Tom Kinane, who has lit the series since it started.

HSL is supplying i-Pix BB4 LED wash lights and Satellite LED 'bricks' plus Pulsar Chroma strips to the show, which is being recorded in Studio Two at The London Studios (TLS) on the South Bank. The schedule is intense, recording three shows a day in batches of five days, and it has a daily broadcast slot on ITV 1 between 5 and 6 p.m. They have also just recorded six 'celebrity specials' - in TLS Studio One with live audiences - that are being aired on Saturdays.

Ian Hoffer, of Aurora Sound and Light Design, designed and installed Rumor's sound system, as well as all lighting and effects. A 20-year veteran of production, club design and integration, Hoffer chose an all-Meyer Sound array for Rumor's main room, using four CQ-2 loudspeakers and six 600-HP subwoofers, and for DJ monitoring, two UPJ-1P VariO loudspeakers and one UMS-1P subwoofer. The bar room features three more UPJ-1P VariO loudspeakers.

Along with the Meyer Sound equipment, the nightclub features the MA Lighting grandMA2 ultra-light system.
