UK - Jodrell Bank, home of the famous Lovell radio telescope, has given visitors another reason to visit following the recent upgrade and expansion of its Discovery Centre. Electrosonic installed the audio-visual and interactive elements of the exhibits under subcontract to fit-out contractors, The Moule Partnership.

Part of the University of Manchester, the Discovery Centre works alongside the Observatory to educate visitors about the research and the live science that is carried out by the Jodrell Bank team. The new £3m project includes a new entrance building, the Planet Pavilion, and a new Space Pavilion for exhibitions and events.

UK - Buxton Opera House in Derbyshire recently selected a combined Allen & Heath iDR installation and iLive digital mixing system as the audio distribution and FOH mixer for a new multi-format theatre in its Pavilion Arts Centre.

The 360-capacity auditorium, which hosts a varied programme of theatre and conference events, has an iDR-32 MixRack and iDR-8 Mix Processor installed in a backstage sound rack, with an iLive-T80 Control Surface at FOH position. There is also a PL-6 remote fader panel and a laptop loaded with iLive and iDR control software in the studio, as well as a PL-10 rotary control panel in the prompt corner position. The rest of the PA system comprises Martin Audio speakers and amps.

A large quantity of DPA microphones, including the first 2006A and 2011A mics to arrive in Holland, were provided by DPA's Dutch distributor Amptec for the event.

The new VF passive series consists of five models of VFR two-way full-range loudspeakers - two VFS subwoofers and three VSM stage monitors. Saudi Arabia - Sennheiser Middle East has recently supplied 16 ADN systems to Saudi Arabian AV systems integrator Electronic Special Equipment (ESE) for a single governmental project in the country's capital of Riyadh.

UK - Peugeot UK decided to preview their new midrange saloon and estate range at the ICC in Birmingham in order to give their dealers a chance to view the new 508 series models first hand before the public launch of the car.

Production company AddingValue were given the brief to produce a spectacular reveal for the car and turned to Martin Professional's compact MAC 101 moving head wash. The reveal was to be followed by an on stage presentation by various Peugeot senior staff and would include interactive demonstrations and video presentations.

Production Manager Guy Ferguson from AddingValue contacted LD Paul Moorhouse and asked him to design the lighting for the dealer launch, having worked with Paul on previous projects for Peugeot. France / Monaco - With bases in Paris, Nice and Marseille, French rental company Arpege Son Lumiere is continually busy with festivals, live tours, television shows and corporate events. The company has invested heavily in DiGiCo consoles, which are in constant use.

UK - The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff has recently installed a grandMA2 light console in its new 160 seat courtyard style Richard Burton Theatre, one of two performance spaces in a £22.5m landmark building development.

The College stages up to 18 drama productions a year and numerous music events, including student works and commercial shows. The College has owned a grandMA 'series 1' for three years, and so is well aware of the capabilities of MA Lighting's control platform and its superb reliability.

The grandMA2 was specified by senior technical lecturers and the technical operations department following detailed discussions about training and operational needs. The decision was fully endorsed by the College's technical operations manager Simon Denman-Ellis, who took up his new post at the College after 15 years as technical stage manager at Cardiff

New Zealand - Bethlehem Baptist Church in Tauranga recently decided to upgrade its FOH console from analogue to digital, selecting Allen & Heath's iLive digital mixing system as the replacement.

The church, which has capacity for approximately 1800 worshipers, is undergoing expansion, including the installation of new mixers and a speaker array system as part of the audio upgrade.

An iLive system, comprising an iDR-48 MixRack and iLive-T112 Control Surface, was supplied by Jansen Professional Audio & Lighting.

"Our volunteers find iLive logical and simple to use, yet it allows more technical users to dig into advanced features when needed," explains Bethlehem Baptist Church's technical co-ordinator, Caleb Fryett. "We have been so pleased with this purchase that we have since purchased a second."
