UK - Liverpool- based Adlib is supplying its new Pixled F30 LED screen, a Catalyst media server, full production lighting, FOH and monitor sound consoles and a stage monitor system, plus crew for the BRIT Award winner Ellie Goulding's UK tour. UK - Rotherham Civic Theatre and Arts Centre has addressed a number of ongoing issues: Health and Safety, turnaround times, carbon footprint as well as energy and labour costs, in one fell swoop with the purchase of 16 PixelRange RGBA PixelPars, featuring high intensity CREE LEDs.

Working at height to change the lamps and gels for static lights is common practice in UK theatres, but the PixelPars have brought a dramatic change of circumstance to the theatre. For the first time, operators have instant control over the lighting colour via DMX control. The PixelPars are fitted with 40 degree diffusers to give good coverage and are zoned to spread colour evenly across the stage.

Technical manager Steve Smith comments: "We looked closely at the marketplace to see what was available and the PixelPar won the vote of th

USA - Platinum-selling rock band Flyleaf have been touring constantly in 2010, building upon the success of their Memento Mori and Flyleaf albums. Now on the second leg of the band's Unite and Fight tour, Rich Caldwell (front of house engineer) and Sean Patrick (monitor engineer) rely on Soundcraft Vi6 and Si3 digital mixing consoles, respectively.

"Earlier this year we were able to secure a production budget to carry consoles, so we started shopping for a desk to rent," says Rich Caldwell, Flyleaf's front of house engineer. "We wanted to go analogue at the time, but it's just not practical for a multi-band bill and limited trailer space. After several lengthy conversations with Vince Kapchinski, the owner of Backstage Sound and Lighting [of Bryan, Texas], we decided to take out the Vi6. He kept raving about how 'analog' the Vi6 digital sounde

Poland - Jazz pianist Leszek Mo?d?er has been using two DPA stereo miking kits - a 3511 and a 3506 - for his live performances and studio recordings.

The 3511 kit consists of a pair of matched DPA 4011-TL cardioid microphones with stereo booms and mounting accessories. These mics are linear in their frequency response, on and off axis, and provide high SPLs to allow close as well as distant placement. The 3506 kit contains two 4006-TL compact omni mics which have a detailed and natural reproduction with high sensitivity and low noise-floor.

"DPA microphones transfer the sound very faithfully," says Mo?d?er, explaining why he's chosen the DPAs. "They reproduce everything: the hammers working inside the piano, the touch of the fingers on the keyboard, the mechanism of piano's pedal. The microphones record and reproduce everything that is going on while playing; th

UK - ETC has released new software for its SmartFade range of lighting control desks, including a number of new features - such as native support for LED fixtures with up to seven colours.

As manufacturers add further LED colours, more advanced control is necessary - this means that a SmartFade ML desk is now able to control ETC Selador LED fixtures, which contain up to seven different colours.

Other updates in SmartFade v3 include: a completely redesigned stack, in which cues can be recorded in any order, then played back in the correct sequence; over 3000 personalities, more than double than in previous versions; when the stack is on, the displays in SmartFade ML now include the step name and the running times; consoles are now

UK - On Wednesday 8 December, JCB unveiled its London Christmas fundraising campaign in support of Help for Heroes, with a reception in the London Television Studios overlooking the River Thames. The view was important, because the focus of everyone's attention was a barge carrying two 14m Christmas trees, two JCB backhoe loaders and a large banner displaying details of how donations could be made.

All the preparatory work on the barge was carried out down river at Tilbury Docks, and the challenge presented to Unusual Rigging was how to rig the Christmas trees - which weighed 1.5 tons each - so they could be lowered to enable the barge to pass under the five bridges between Tilbury and the South Bank.
