This historic theatre is the main stage of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD), the UK's only provider of conservatoire level education in music, drama and dance.

"The theatre technicians at the RSAMD know the lighting business inside out, so we were really under the spotlight in terms of delivering a state-of-the-art system," says Black Light's installations project manager, Paul McGreal. "However, we were the first choice for the job and were able to deliver a high-quality, bespoke system within budget and to a tight deadline."

Italy - La Tana del Lupo (translated literally as the Den of The Wolf) is a popular Italian TV talk show, broadcast live three times a week by CTS (the Sicilian Television Company) from the Panastudio Productions facilities in Palermoon Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons.

DoP Massimo Tomasino has specified lighting for the current series, which includes six Robe Robin 300E Beams and two Robe DigitalSpot 3000DTs, which are positioned on the studio floor and on an angled truss around the studio's perimeter.

The lively 60-minute interactive show is directed and presented by Francesco Panasci. It covers topical and often controversial issues with an invited panel of studio guests exchanging views, opinions and thoughts with the audience.

The set design is deliberately minimal, so attention remains focussed on the guests, the dialogue and the studio action, f

UK - ELP returned to the tower Ballroom in Blackpool for the fourth Strictly Come Dancing special to come from 'the home of ballroom dancing'. The regular journey north for the contestants, show producers and viewers has gained a special significance, second only to the final itself. Consequently the pressure is on the production team to ensure that this show is every bit as good as the BBC TV Centre output.

So how do they achieve a seamless transition for this one-night-only show? "The first call I make is to ELP," says lighting director Mark Kenyon. "There are certain lights which define the look of the show such as the Clay Paky Alpha Beam 300s with their tight, narrow shafts of light. And I know ELP have the stock levels I require for an OB job of this size. They have all the rigging and trussing ready to go and can provide the complete package." M

Spain - Ateis Europe's public address technology played a key role in the service of consecration at the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, 128 years after building work on the church began. In a sombre, yet impressive ceremony on 7 November, Pope Benedict XVI blessed the altar and bestowed basilica minor status on Antoni Gaudi's unfinished masterpiece.

A comprehensive PA system installed by Ateis' Spanish distributor, Optimus SA, ensured that the congregation of more than 6,500 people heard every word of the Pope's blessing. The installation was challenging for many reasons: because construction is still ongoing there is a lot of scaffolding in the building but the loudspeakers could not intrude on the decoration of the church interior.

Although the Sagrada Familia - or Holy Family church - is not a cathedral, it is on the same scale as a cathedral. The audio brief was for a syste

The PYKO range was chosen for solutions that transit in part over the public Internet network, whereas the IQOYA range, particularly the * LINK/LE and * SERV/LINK products will be used for

Australia - Originally released in 2004, the Jands Vista introduced a new approach to constructing light shows, with 'think visually, work visually' as the core concept. The upcoming Vista 2 Byron release of the application takes this innovative approach to a new stage, introducing a true second generation of software, completely re-written from the ground up, says the company. The lighting crew at Brisbane City Church has been a long time Vista user and was one of a select group to beta test Byron.

Everyone involved in the production team at City Church are volunteers, yet at City Church's Bowen Hills auditorium the team executes two 'shows' per Sunday to a congregation of up to 2000 people.

"I am a non-professional lighting guy", said Scott Bernoth one of the Church's longest serving lighting volunteers. "So the ease of use that is provided by the visual inter

India - With some 7000 athletes from 71 countries competing for 826 medals in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, first time hosts India promised to deliver a world class Games amidst a wide array of environmental and political challenges.

The Opening and Closing Ceremonies are the first and last opportunity for the organisers to show off their venues and set the stage for the Games themselves, providing the ideal opportunity for the host country to showcase its culture, history and civilization.

The centrepiece of both the shows featured a huge helium balloon, believed to be the largest of its kind, rising from the centre of the stadium, the underbelly of which provided a 360-degree projection surface. Images depicting the numerous facets of Indian history were projected on to the aerostat with many strands of this diverse country characterised in the aerostat visuals.

Spain - Showsec's management consultancy team recently returned from a successful engagement with MTV for the 2010 Europe Music Awards held in Madrid on November 7.

There was a festival feel across Madrid, with MTV hosting a number of events during the week. This culminated in the Outdoor Broadcast Show at the Puerto de Alcala, where a mammoth stage was built in front of the landmark, in the middle of a roundabout. A complex security plan was agreed with the National and Municipal police, whereby a series of road closures and pedestrian control points created an audience area of up to 50,000 people. Saturday 6 November was MTV Spain day with a line-up of top Spanish pop acts, whilst the Sunday delivered a visually spectacular event featuring Katy Perry, 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park.

Showsec used a team of 11 managers from the UK, who were each responsible for different a

UK - The Rory Peck Trust supports freelance news gatherers and their families worldwide in times of need and promotes their welfare and safety. It was set up in 1995, two years after Rory Peck was killed filming in Moscow. The trust relies on income from grants, sponsorship, and charitable donations. Richard Martin Lighting provided lights for the annual awards.

Lighting designer Malcolm Reed chose a mixture of LED and moving heads for the awards, held in London's BFI National Film Theatre. PixelPar 90s, GLP Impressions and Alpha Spot 300s created a classic design.

"The reasoning behind this choice of lighting is quite simple," says Reed. "The theatre has very little power available as the normal use is a cinema and I was limited to a few 13 amp sockets scattered around the auditorium. For me LED's are just the thing, the GLPs enabled me not only to create vario
