UK - Baldwin Boxall will be demonstrating a VoIP solution (VIGIL VoIP) for the first time on its stand at PLASA 2010. The products, developed in conjunction with Archean Technologies, add further flexibility to our VIGIL2 systems.

Using an existing Ethernet network, the products provide a flexible public address system with many facilities. Text-to-speech, live paging, stored messages, timed message, timed volume adjustment and realtime log (including fault reporting) are just some of the functions available. There is also a facility to communicate with passenger information display (PIDS) for automatic audio translation.

VIGIL VoIP enables multi-user access and is suitable for numerous applications. It is demonstrated at PLASA with two types of control: touchscreen and telephon

With the series comprising AV Revolution and Zone Revolution models, virtually any installation requirement is covered, including remote control and paging - all wit

UK - The Saturday night TV show Tonight's The Night is back for its second series and Richard Martin Lighting hotly anticipated which fixtures lighting designer Roger Williams would opt for this time. Tom Sutherland programmed the show.

This season, the lighting rig incorporated a heavy variety of the Clay Paky range including Alpha Spot 575 HPE, Alpha Beam 700 and Alpha Wash 300.

"It's the first time I have used the 700 beams which were astonishingly bright and so versatile. I used just the 700 beams for quite a few numbers throughout the series, they really made the show," says Williams.

The rig also included Martin LC Panels with P3 Controller. Various LED Lights completed the look - including LED Par 36, 2 Lights, iCove QL and Chroma Strips.

UK - PLASA 2010 will host the European début of the latest products in the expanding IC Live family of digitally steerable array loudspeakers - with a 'world first' from Renkus-Heinz, in the striking shape of the new IC2, or 'IC Squared'. Also new to Europe is the CF/CFX Modular Point Source Array, a groundbreaking solution for today's small and mid-sized venues, including auditoria, night clubs, theatres and houses of worship.

IC2 combines the control and flexibility of Iconyx digitally steerable technology with the power and focus of a point source loudspeaker, creating the world's first 'crossover array' with the full benefits of both technologies, says the company.

Four 8-inch low frequency Neodymium transducers and 1-inch Titanium Nitride coated HF drivers offer high SPL point source performance, while individual steering control of each driver gives the IC2 unriva

UK - Han-Yellock is a new industrial connector series from Harting which incorporates a number of features that make it suited to use in stage automation, concert lighting and power distribution systems.

In addition to offering an IP67 mated degree of protection, the connector features an integrated 'seat-belt' style latched locking mechanism that ensures damage limitation under harsh handling conditions. The new connector also allows single-handed mating or unmating, making it suitable for fitting in awkward access areas - often the case for theatre installations.

The locking facility is a key function of the Han-Yellock connector. When locked, the connection is resistant to vibration and shock. When unmated, a red ring is visible around the perimeter of the locking pushbutton. When fully mated, this ring disappears as soon as the internally protected stainless-steel springs

DBN lighting designer, Stephen Page notes, "The Color Force batten offers exceptional brightness and versatility. There's ample output to uplight or downlight stage backdrops, plus the RGBA optics deliver a full range of

Denmark - City Kirken in Arhus has undergone a major refurbishment. One of the church members Peter Rasch reports, "The church completely renovated the building within which it lives. The main worship room was always intended to bring a fresh modern feel and the church members all agreed that we should employ the equally modern technologies of communication, sound, light and video, but with sensitivity. This is not the place for Iron Maiden, but it is a place where people should be excited by what they see and hear."

The Church Committee sought Rasch's advice, "My career has been in providing audio and communications systems. I worked with Informations Teknik in Copenhagen for some years, and now work with Get Visual, a specialist with particular expertise in video in my home town of Arhus. My primary recommendation was for a d&b audiotechnik PA system; speech is

Argentina - Teatro Colón, the main opera house in Buenos Aires and considered one of the best five opera houses in the world, was recently refurbished with a grandMA2 full-size console and a grandMA2 replay unit.

The city government's original 'master plan' in 2006 involved structural restoration, but Mayor Mauricio Macri decided on a total facelift across the board costing US$ 100 million - the most expensive heritage restoration in Argentina's history - in order to improve both the building's structure and to bring it up to date technologically.

Ernesto Diz was in charge of the lighting system's bid specification. Diz, founder of Estudio Diz, was a professor of lighting design at the Buenos Aires University, and is the lighting and stage designer of several buildings in Argentina and around the world, including Teatro Argentino de la Plata, Teatro Municipal de Bahia Blanca,

Eat To the Beat and Stage Miracles completed the cast. Tutchener was also the anchor between

Germany - Running from 5-8 August, this year saw the second edition of the Burghauser Konzertsommer mini-festival, featuring four evenings, four genres, and the backdrop of Burghausen Castle. With acclaimed performances by jazz star Roger Cicero and his band, Austrian bard Peter Cornelius, German Volksmusik charmer Hansi Hinterseer, and the similarly well-received Night of Musicals gala, it was a formula that proved successful once again this year. Despite the wet and cold weather, organizers Creative Concerts were welcomed 5,000 visitors.

This year as last, the festival's sound production was the responsibility of a team from rental company MSE Tontechnik. As well as the variety of the acts performing, the medieval venue - a 60 x 20m courtyard - also posed challenges for the crew of technicians. "It's no easy matter here," commented MSE chief Johannes Sch
