Germany - The international Live Mixing Workshop is coming to the MusikZentrum in Hanover. From 20 to 22 September, sound engineers will have the opportunity over three days to work on all the audio aspects of a live concert - from set-up to the final encore.

The workshop will be held in English and will focus on all aspects of a live gig, including planning and setting up the public address system, miking and frequency manage¬ment, and finally fine-tuning the monitor and FOH sound. Prominent sound engineers and event professionals will assist participants, while the band Rauschenberger will perform the live act. The Live Mixing Workshop is organised by Sennheiser Sound Academy and supported by co-sponsor Yamaha, the SAE Institute and Fischer Amps.

Europe - Pearl Jam engineer Karrie Keyes has taken a Midas PRO6, supplied by Rat Sound, out on the band's 2010 tour in support of the current Backspacer album.

This marks a digital first for Keyes, who has never before taken a digital console on the road. She has been mixing monitors since 1991 and, in recent years, more usually opted for a Heritage desk.

"In the past," says Keyes, "we have not been able to get (vocalist) Eddie Vedder on a digital because we've not got the sound quality but the PRO6 has really delivered. We have found no issues with latency and the band loves the sound."

Keyes herself quickly felt at home on the PRO6. "I felt pretty comfortable with it after the first show," she says, "and the factory support from Midas is amazing.

Malaysia - Aviom personal mixers are helping to tame the battle between monitors and front of house for the services at Tabernacle of Worship in Seremban, Malaysia. Established in 1983, the Tabernacle's congregation has grown to about 900 worshipers attending its weekend English and Chinese language services.

For years, the church battled with a poor monitoring system that did not effectively meet the needs of the musicians and singers in the worship band. Frustrated musicians complained that they could not hear themselves while the volunteer audio staff said the musicians' high monitor volumes made mixing for the congregation impossible.

South Africa - An Optocore optical fibre system has been on duty in Johannesburg's International Broadcast Centre (IBC) for the duration of the football World Cup, where it has been used for signal distribution for one of Gearhouse Broadcast's major South American sports based clients.

The nerve centre for all television operations and the world's news agencies during the World Cup, the IBC was set up at the MTN Expo Centre.

Gearhouse Broadcast's head of sound, Ryan Campbell, configured a system for the Sports Programming Network based around Optocore converters. Analogue feeds were distributed to the Yamaha M7CL desk, fitted with Optocore YG and YS cards in the audio control room, with fibre distribution between the voice over booth and master control room - via a series of DD32E network devices and Optocore X6 I/O interfaces.

UK - RG Jones Sound Engineering provided Glastonbury Festival's Pyramid Stage audio production for the third year in succession, after first working on the iconic stage in 2007 as suppliers of FOH and monitor control systems.

The south London-based company, the UK member of the Synco Europe Network, was lead contractor for the audio production. On the busiest weekend of the European festival calendar, with over a million watts of Synco by Martin Audio line array hardware deployed by Synco Network members at festival stages across northern Europe, RG Jones brought in London neighbours Capital Sound to supply the left and right PA hangs, and co-designed a cardioid sub-bass array with a Martin Audio team headed by Jason Baird.

South Korea - Italian loudspeaker manufacturer dBTechnologies has announced the appointment of Dongyang Tave as distributor in South Korea. Established in 2001 and now with a 30-strong team, Tave has grown to be one of the strongest distribution companies in South Korea.

UK - Children's television favourite Peppa Pig is currently on a major UK tour, bringing a first experience of theatre to thousands of toddlers and pre-school children. Coping with an inherently noisy audience without having volume levels too high is a tricky balancing act, but one which front of house engineer Colin Allen and a Yamaha LS9 console are well in command of.

The tour is a genuine ABC of Britain's city and provincial venues, ranging in size from 500 to 1500 capacity. From having actors visibly working the puppet characters to a sound that's loud enough, but not overly so, everything is geared to making the show enjoyable and interactive - but not overwhelming or frightening - to its very young audience.

Kenya - Italian-designed dBTechnologies sound reinforcement is a success in Kenya, where local distributor, Sound Creations recently selected DVX and Flexsys active boxes to kit out an event truck.

Decked with four DVX D15, two S20, two Flexsys F15 and one Flexsys F10 powered speakers, the vehicle is to be used for outdoor promotions of products and events in the region.
