USA - Launched at PLASA09 and currently showing at LDI in Orlando, the DVI Parrot by Carallon is billed as the first truly user-configurable EDID emulator. EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) is a message, normally stored in computer monitors and other display devices, that computer graphics cards must see in order to function properly. An EDID emulator is necessary wherever devices with graphics cards are connected to projectors, plasma screens, LED displays, matrix switchers and format convertors.

The Parrot offers complete configurable control, allowing quick and easy modification of all EDID parameters, greatly simplifying system set-up and trouble-shooting, especially of the large complex video systems that are becoming so popular, says the company.

The Parrot is easily configured via USB on either Windows or Macintosh computers using a programme called the Par

UK - Lighting Technology Projects (LTP), working to a lighting design by Speirs & Major Associates (SaMA) has installed and assisted in implementing the final specification for the new Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) memorial sculpture, in Poole.

This striking first ever national monument for the organisation is located in the gardens of the RNLI's HQ, and commemorates the 778 RNLI lifesavers lost since its foundation in 1824. The sculpture was designed by artist Sam Holland, and the by Satu Streatfield.

The sculpture shows a stainless steel boat containing a lifeboat crew member saving a casualty from the water - a bold and dramatic statement reflecting the history and projecting the future of the RNLI, symbolising courage, loss, selflessness, remembrance and hope.

LTP has worked in a similar role on other SaMA lighting projects, and was asked onboard when the li

UK - E/T/C UK's Ross Ashton designed a specially commissioned projection artwork for Durham Cathedral as part of the four-day Lumière Durham Festival of Light event, curated and co-ordinated by Artichoke.

Ashton's work, Crown of Light, covered the entire North fascia of the Cathedral including all sides of the three towers, and was the largest installation of the festival, and arguably also the biggest cathedral projection to date in the UK. Durham Cathedral dates back to 1093 and is regarded as one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in the country. It is a designated UNESCO world Heritage Site along with nearby Durham Castle which faces it across Palace Green.

Ashton received an initial brief from Artichoke's Helen Marriage and Nicky Webb about the narrative and direction of the show. Taking these as a creative starting point for the storyboard, he t

Finland - This month has seen the installation of dBTechnologies' wireless microphone and loudspeaker systems at SantaPark, Finland's festive theme park, just in time for its busiest season. The project for newly appointed Finnish distributor Live Nation, involved upgrading the stage entertainment arena at the underground attraction, where Opera 410D speakers and PU920 series wireless microphone systems are now used in the SantaPark Show.

Jori Asikainen of Live Nation says, "It was an easy decision when specifying the sound equipment for this project; both systems we used were exactly what we needed. The install went smoothly and it is proving to be reliable even at Arctic temperatures."

The digitally controlled 16 channel PU920 wireless microphone system features extensive working range, long battery life and a newly developed digital squelch control.

UAE - Effective immediately, Venuetech LLC has become an Electro-Voice distributor for the UAE. In parallel, the existing partner, NMK Electronics Ent., will continue to market the products until middle of April 2010. This change doesn't affect the distribution of Electro-Voice microphones, which stays with AVL Electronics.

"In recent years the pro audio markets in the Middle East have changed greatly. In order to be able to continue to increase our market share with Electro-Voice we had to adapt our strategy. With a strong portfolio for all vertical markets - retail, installation and rental - and the new partnership with Venuetech, we are well-prepared to achieve our common objectives," comments Klaus Seitz, director sales export of Bosch Communications Systems.

UK - UK radio frequencies for wireless microphones and in-ear monitoring are set to see radical changes over the next few years. The changes will affect many users of these systems, so Sennheiser UK is working hard to take a lead in keeping its customers informed about developments - both in the 'big picture' and, more specifically, what users of the company's systems can do to ensure minimum disruption.

Ofcom has designated the currently used Channel 69 (854-862 MHz) as part of a band that will be re-allocated for new services, and has designated Channel 38 (606-614 MHz) as a replacement. Although the de-regulated / license exempt frequencies in Channel 70 (863-865 MHz) will not change, over the next three years there will be a need for much wireless equipment to be either replaced or converted to use Channel 38.

The current situation with Sennheiser equipment is as follows:F

UK - Known as The Warren, the Metropolitan Police Sports Club in Bromley is housed in a magnificent late Victorian building set in spacious gardens, where its main function room is expected to serve a number of different roles.

When interior designer Colin Stone (of Stone Me!) was brought in, it was with the task of upgrading a typical 1980's social club interior - by creating an ever-changing environment which it would be equally comfortable hosting formal conferences, banquets and wedding receptions to full-on entertainment for up to 600 people.

"This was a very dated function room which resembled a big top inside," remembers Stone. "The client wanted it to be more contemporary - sufficiently warm for the majority of uses but with elegance and opulence to enable it to host wedding receptions.

"The logical decision was to keep the environment neutral and

A statement from festival organiser Michael Eavis said: "The 26-year-old rumour has finally come true. At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world. Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party. And there are even more surprises in the pipeline . . ."

UK - Audio-Technica has unveiled two new additions - the company's first ever ribbon microphones - to its popular 40 Series mic range. The newly-designed AT4080 and AT4081 boast 18 patents pending, and Audio-Technica say they "convincingly solve the problems of fragility and low output that have traditionally plagued ribbon mics, in part through the use of a proprietary MicroLinear ribbon imprint for excellent durability".

The AT4080 features dual ribbon construction for pronounced sensitivity, while the single ribbon AT4081 is of a low-profile stick design to allow for flexible positioning options. A significant degree of hand production, including ribbon corrugation, imprint and assembly, is involved in the construction of the new mics, the company says.

According to the manufacturer: "While ensuring increased ruggedness, the design of the new microphones also

UK - Christie has announced that Audio Visual Materials (AVM) will distribute an expanded Christie portfolio, to include Christie's LCD projector range.

AVM has marketed Christie's single and three chip projection solutions to the AV reseller channel in the UK with great success since January 2008. The expansion of the offering to include Christie's fixed installation product is an organic progression of a successful and dovetailed working relationship between the two companies.

Joe Graziano, UK channel sales manager, explains: "AVM has had success with the previous offering and has proved itself a company easy to work with, technically knowledgeable and simple to do business with. They were a natural choice to take on the LCD projection line as AVM maintains the integrity of the Christie partner relationship within their own channel."
