Walmsley, renowned for his previous production designs for Pop Idol in the UK, turned to California-based Sweetwater Video to supply all video equipment for the show, including the 340 panels of Element Labs Stealth LED displays used to grace the stage during the finals in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

The Stealth panels, configured to form four strips upstage centre and additional strips above and below the main LED screen, allowed Walmsley to create a design in which video and lighting integrated seamlessly within the overall set design.

South Korea - Allen & Heath's iLive digital mixing system has been employed for Juan Presbyterian Church's recent musical production, Unfailing Love, in Incheon, South Korea.

"I have always been an avid Allen & Heath user and find the desks excellent value for money. My first mixer was a GL4 and there is an ML5000 VCA console installed at the church," says H. T. Kim, executive mixing engineer at the Juan Presbyterian Church.

"Some engineers I know are still concerned about the stability of digital mixers and I was one of them before I touched iLive. By the first day of the show I had complete confidence in iLive and it is surprisingly intuitive for a digital system. One of the key benefits of going digital is the scene memory and recall function, which saves a lot of set up time as you can recall settings from the previous night's performance."

The Netherlands - The DPA 4017 shotgun microphone has provided an ingenious solution for Broadcast Facilities Nederland (BFN) for the radio broadcast of Olivier Messiaen's opera St François d'Assise at the Muziek Theater Amsterdam.

Soloist Camilla Tilling, in the role of the angel, had to descend from heaven, with her vocals captured clearly by chief broadcast sound engineer Rob Heerschop from BFN - without showing the microphone. Heerschop asked DPA's Dutch distributor Amptec if he could try out the 4017 and found the results to be so good that BFM ordered the shotgun right away.

The 4017 was mounted in two different positions during the production. The first was on a stand in the middle of the orchestra, aimed at the angel 10m above. "The microphone was in the middle of a large woodwind section but this had hardly any effect on the angel's voice, which was open
