UK - d&b audiotechnik will be showing the latest additions to its E-Series range of loudspeakers and the new D6 amplifier at ABTT 2008.

"The E8 and E12 loudspeakers and the E15X subwoofer will all be on display," said Stephen (Oggi) Hogg who heads d&b's UK distribution. "These new loudspeakers will be of particular interest to all our friends and colleagues in the theatre fraternity; from our perspective they are the successors for the C6 and E9, performing with the same vocal presence, versatility, musicality and precise pattern control to which we have all become accustomed.

"The use of new materials and driver technology makes for a design that is lighter and remarkable both visually as well as functionally." Hogg continued "The D6 of course, mai

USA - TobyMac, Casting Crowns, Chris Tomlin, Trin-i-tee 5:7, and the David Crowder Band may have been among some of the top honorees at the 39th annual GMA Dove Awards held at the Grand Ole Opry House, but it was Natalie Grant who stole the show when she was named Female Vocalist of the Year for the third consecutive time, and performed her hit Bring it All Together live with country icon Wynonna Judd using Shure UHF-R wireless.

"To hear my name nominated in such company is such a huge honor," Grant told the Shreveport Times, humbly paying tribute to all the other artists singled out for kudos at the event. "My microphone used to be a hairbrush, and my audience used to be stuffed animals. I hold loosely to it all. I may be the flavour of the moment right now, but at some point it will be someone else's turn."

UK - One of north London's best-known concert venues, the Mama Group-owned Kentish Town Forum, has been hosting live performances since the early 1980s, featuring a diverse array of artists. In recent years there had been concerns about the venue's sound quality, so a new Turbosound audio system has been installed.

"My job was to deliver products so that the venue can do its business successfully," says Archie McIntosh, director of VMS Live, who the Mama Group brought in to oversee the Forum's refurbishment. "I've used Turbosound Aspect in other projects and it was good to have the chance to use it in such a wonderful venue as the Forum."

The main front of house system comprises both ground stacked and flown elements. Four Aspect TA-880L low frequency, three TA-880H mid/highs and two TSW-218 subs per side are complemented by a pair of TA-500 Aspect Wide cab

UK - Adele, the young British soul singer who began the year as the winner of the BBC's Sound of 2008, is currently undertaking her biggest UK tour so far. And an essential addition to her touring package has been a range of microphones from Neumann and Sennheiser.

According to front of house engineer Dave McDonald the Neumann KMS 104 was always going to be an essential part of Adele's audio makeup.

"I've been touring for the last year with Air," he explains, "and we were using the Neumann KMS 104. It takes the vocal and really throws it to the back of the hall with clarity. When I started working with Adele I said, 'let's get you one of these, it's the right mic for your vocal'. The KMS 104 just has this depth. It goes right to the bottom and the high end of the vocal and it's crystal clear. That's what I always want. I don't want to be messing around f

UK - An Avolites Pearl Expert has been specified and installed to control all lighting in the main room at The Regal, Oxford's new 1000 capacity multi purpose venue.

Technical director Kieran Hayes has been the driving force behind the Regal project over the last three years, which has seen the Grade II listed former cinema, opened in 1927, restored to its original Art-Deco splendour, and enjoying a new lease of life as an entertainment hub. Situated on Oxford's vibrant Cowley Road, the venue is already hosting a variety of dance nights, tours and live bands.

When it came to lighting, Hayes consulted Dave Parry of Most Technical and asked if he could help them with spec'ing and procuring a cost effective lighting rig that would give the requisite quality and dynamics.

Parry suggested that flexible control was a key element in accommodating the Regal's lighting production req

Germany - Presented in March and October for popular and classical music respectively, Germany's Echo Awards are the high points of the country's annual music industry calendar - and this year XTA system processing has helped rapper Bushido to walked off with two.

The Echo Awards are given each year by the Deutsche Phono-Akademie, an association of the country's recording companies, and reward the highest selling artists of the preceding 12 months.

2008 was the third year in which Bushido has won Echo Awards and, with three major live tours having been undertaken in 2007 alone, it is unsurprising that he came top in both the Best National Live Act and Best National Hip-Hop/R&B artist categories.

Berlin-based Complete Audio provides the audio system for Bushido's live shows, using two XTA DP448 and one DP226 processors to control a large Martin Audio PA system.

USA - LEDtronics has introduced a new Micro high-power LED flashlight. While continuing the durability of its predecessors, the new Micro FlashLED is more powerful than most LED flashlights on the market today, says the company. It has a one-watt, 80-lumen LED chip that emits over 4,300 end foot-candles (4300cd) of bright Cool White (8000 Kelvin) light.

Micro FlashLED operates on three standard, replaceable, AAA-cell-type alkaline batteries. Since LEDs are 80-90% more energy efficient than incandescent lamps, the unit operates 20 - 30 times longer than the comparable incandescent flashlight, providing up to 96 hours or four days of continuous illumination at a diminishing light output rate. It retains 50% of its light output after one hour of continuous use.

Micro FlashLED features a push-button switch in the back of the unit to operate the LED light. It measures 4.5 inches lo

China - To mark the forthcoming Beijing Olympics, on 30-31 May large-format projection artist Paolo Buroni and Stark Srl will create what they claim to be the largest multi-projection ever attempted - on the new, 234m high CCTV (Central Chinese Television) building in Beijing. During the pre-Olympic event, which will take place in front of the highest Chinese authorities and the Italian Ambassador, more than 45,000sq.m of the four façades of the gigantic, modern building will be frescoed.

Created for sportswear giant Nike, the multi-projection is among the most complex and demanding ever performed, say Stark. The technical difficulties in achieving such a project in the urban centre of Beijing represent a technical and artistic challenge.

Paolo Buroni says: "This operation fits perfectly into my artistic career made up of invasions into, and virtual transformation of, th

UK - For the Dancing on Ice 2008 tour, LD Durham Marenghi used 46 Clay Paky Alpha Profile 1200 and 20 Clay Paky Alpha Beam 300, the new moving light beam launched this year.

Marenghi comments: "The main spectacular element of the television show, and likewise the tour, is the projection of the light onto the ice, even if the surface of the ice is four times larger on tour. There are five television cameras which film the presenters, the judges, the skaters and the 10,000 spectators at the ice rink."

Marenghi says he used Alpha Beam 300 lights mainly to light the perimeter of the rink, as the 'VIP' skaters are not experts and need to be able to see the edge of the skating area clearly during their performance. "The Alpha Beam 300 are ACL type projectors and provide incredible light. Moreover, they proved to be totally reliable and very practical for intens

UK - Lighting designer Mark Cunniffe utilised 24 of i-Pix brand new BB7 fixtures - a seven cell high power homogenized 10 degree RGB wash light using a custom Lamina light engine - to light the portico and columns of the main entrance to St Paul's Cathedral, London for the recent City Salute event.

With only six 13 Amp power outlets available to drive architectural lighting for the whole Cathedral exterior - due to cabling issues preventing the use of generators - Cunniffe's only option was to use LED lightsources. This BB7 fixture consumes just 210 Watts at 240 volts, and proved ideal for the task.

The 24 units were floor mounted, and illuminated the upper and lower Portico columns of the Cathedral's main façade. Cunniffe also used a variety of other LED fixtures for the project which involved highlighting St Paul's full entrance facade, commenting that the BB7 was &q
