USA - The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has denied Epistar's request to stay enforcement of the US International Trade Commission's (ITC's) limited exclusion order prohibiting importation of Epistar's OMA, MB, and GB products into the United States. The ITC earlier denied a similar request by Epistar.

The Federal Circuit's decision clears the way for US Customs and Border Enforcement to enforce the limited exclusion order. The exclusion order prohibits importation of Epistar's infringing OMA I, OMA II, MB I, MB II, GB I, and GB II LEDs, as well as any other Epistar LEDs that infringe Philips Lumileds' US Patent No. 5,008,718.

A full size rink will showcase the battery powered Ice Bumper Cars and visitors to the company's stand will be able to experience the new family entertainment on ice. The responsive joystick controlled cars are suitable for drivers ages four and up. Cars can spin 360 degrees to go in all directions to pursue their targets, backwards and forwards and cannot be boxed into a corner. USA - GE Consumer & Industrial has announced that it intends to restructure its lighting business "to become more competitive and better positioned for global growth in the dramatically changing lighting industry".

The company says that this restructuring proposal, which would impact plants in Mexico, Brazil and the US, is a continuation of structural changes that have occurred over the last year and included facility closures, work transfers, employee reductions and the sale of operations at GE sites in Europe, China, Indonesia, the US, Latin America, and India that have impacted more than 3,000 positions.

Europe - In 2006, The Red Hot Chili Peppers began an international world tour alternating between Europe, North America, and Oceania, in support of the Grammy Award-winning album Stadium Arcadium, which became the best-selling CD of 2006 with over seven million units sold.

As a continuation of the tour, the band returned to Europe this year, taking in shows from late June to late August and making stops at various cities and summer festivals along the way. In July they performed three shows in three different cities (Paris, London, Copenhagen) in just 24 hours.

UK - White Light has announced details of the autumn and winter courses offered by its Training Initiative training and education programme. Between now and Spring 2008, courses are offered covering everything from moving lights to rigging to many types of lighting control consoles.

The autumn training schedule kicked off last month with White Light's popular Level 1 and Level 2 Moving Light courses, Level 1 offering an introduction to the equipment with first-level troubleshooting, with Level 2 offering a more detailed analysis of troubleshooting and repair. These courses will also be run on 19 and 20 March 2008.

Now the region's largest events venue, the Siegerlandhalle has a 1,800 m² Great Hall, with a new gallery that has capacity for 2,500 sitting or 4,300 standing audiences, encouraging big-name artists and groups to book the venue.

When it came to choosing the sound reinforcement equipment, the essential criteria were very good sound quality and very good value for money. USA - Elation Professional has entered the architectural lighting market with the introduction of two IP-rated LED products for indoor-outdoor use. The Elar EXFlood and the Elar EXPar, an LED floodlight and LED par can respectively, are the first of as many as 50 new products that will be offered in the new Elation Architectural series by early 2008 at price points never seen before, the company says.

The move into the architectural market is a natural expansion for the company, which has focused heavily on advanced LED technology in recent times, said Eric Loader, director of sales for Elation Professional. The emergence of LED lighting and RGB colour-mixing have changed the nature of architectural lighting, making it a more dynamic concept, according to Loader. Imagination will be responsible for ensuring brand consistency, design and content management and the implementation of all Shell exhibitions and trade shows worldwide.

The appointment is a significant win for Imagination, which operates a network of 10 offices worldwide. It has delivered the global autoshow programme for Ford Motor Company since 1999.

Germany - A four hoist Martin lighting rig totaling 40 MAC TW1 tungsten wash luminaires (80 V) and 16 MAC 2000 Performances graces the Saxon State Opera House in Dresden, Germany, better known as Semperoper.

Built in 1878 by the famous German architect Gottfried Semper, the building excels in its magnificent architecture. Destroyed in 1945, Semperoper was rebuilt in its original form complete with four balconies and a lavish interior abundantly adorned with paintings and stuccowork. Reopened in 1985, the Opera seats nearly 1300.
