The result of this invaluable meeting was an extremely carefully planned package of equipment, which managed to accommodate a wide spectrum of requirements.

The choice was Metrodeck and the final total was forty 1m x 1m modules, triangles and quadrants. Sets of legs were added to give both flat and raked stages also bolt-on kick-rails and black serge drape

UK - Wolverhampton-based Ra'alloy recently supplied Brighton Palace Pier with one of its Rapi-stage staging systems for promotional events scheduled throughout the summer months. Following its recent well-publicized fire, Brighton pier management had a very large repair bill and not much time before the peak influx of holidaymakers.

Ra'alloy's new Rapi-stage was seen to fit well with plans to promote the Pier. Copycat acts such as Queen, Shania Twain, Britney Spears and many more were scheduled to perform, aiming to encourage a full spectrum of visitors to the pier. The stage was manufactured in just four weeks and stands 25ft high and is clearly visible from the seafront. Face on the stage measures 50ft wide by 18ft deep.

The system was launched last year and is manufactured from aluminium and fabric. Rapi-stage is a fully integrated roof and deck system, therefore minimizing

Denmark - Martin's new MAC 550 features unprecedented illumination for a 400W fixture, astounding graphics and gobo animation system - the same as in the MAC 2000 Performance - all housed in the award-winning design of the MAC 2000. The combination of efficient lamp (Osram double-ended HTI 400/D3 - 750 hour lamp life) with new glass reflector technology produces a light output of 9,300 lumens, higher than most 575W fixtures.

In response to market requests for a zoom system in a mid-range fixture, Martin has included a fully motorized zoom in the MAC 550, capable of beam angles from 14-30°. Unlike step zoom systems that offer only two or three different beam angles, the MAC 550's zoom can achieve any beam angle within the range. Lenses inside the MAC 550 come with optical coatings to decrease light loss and improve projection characteristics. The lens system also comes with remo

Israel - The Kramer VP-724DS is a true multi-standard video to RGBHV scaler that converts video, s-Video, component video (SDTV and HDTV), VGA-through-UXGA, and DVI-D signals to 10 user-selectable pixel rates: VGA (640x480), SVGA (800x600), XGA (1024x768), SXGA (1280x1024), UXGA (1600X1200), 1024x852, 1024x1024, 1366x768, 1365x1024 and 1280x720. It has three additional output modes: 480p, 720p and 1080i in component format with tri-level sync.

In addition, the unit acts as an 8-input seamless presentation switcher, and digitally reprocesses the signal to correct mastering errors, and regenerates the video at a higher line and pixel rate format, providing native-resolution video for LCD, DLP and Plasma displays. It allows scaling of any graphics resolution to any other resolution (scaling for example, a VGA input to an UXGA output, or an SXGA input to an SVGA output, etc), and in

With its 49 MIPS throughput (at 48kHz), 28-bit internal data path, and on-board data and program memory (1K each), the AL3101 offers higher performance than many of the more expensive DSP chips on the market, according to Profusion. The AL3101 is capable of processing a 1024 tap FIR (Finite Impulse Response) filter; acting as a compressor/limiter, gate, or de-esser; serving as a speaker crossover or equalizer; or creating a wide variety of audio effects such as chorusing and flanging.

The DSP-1K offers large word size, providing easy, accurate algorithm creation for audio and other high dynamic range applications. The chip also operates stand-alone with a serial PROM (DSP-1KM) or in conjunction with a host microprocessor or microcontroller. Additio

UK - Leading Australian lighting manufacturer, Jands, will be unveiling its new console, the Vista, at the PLASA show in London (7-10 September). Featuring a major new design that takes advantage of the latest user interfaces, the Vista is a whole new world of speed, ease of use and sheer intuitiveness in lighting desks.

Dispensing with touch screens, keypads and tedious number crunching, the Vista uses a pen and a huge colour screen to give you unprecedented creative power and control over every aspect of your show. For the first time, the Vista incorporates a timeline that lets you see what's happening in your design in relation to time: when lights come on, when they go off, when they change colour and so on. You can jump in at any point to edit, and all the variables such as colours, focus and gobos are there on the one screen.

The Vista also features a generic fixture m

Malta - XTA DP226 digital loudspeaker controllers were at the heart of a Martin Audio line array system deployed by London's Capital Sound Hire at a one-off concert by Sir Elton John for 15,000 fans in Valetta, Malta recently. The show, part of the Elton John Solo European tour, saw Capital Sound fly in its W8L/W8LC system as a stand-in for the Clair Brothers i4 line array system being used on the remainder of the tour.

The very wide site - measuring some 160m wide by just 70m deep, with the stage on one of the long sides - created an acoustical challenge for production manager Henry Crallan and Capital Sound's techs Ian Colville and Finbar Neenan. With housing next to the arena, achieving coverage across the breadth of the arena without excess noise spill was tricky. The solution was to use two ground stacks of Clair Bros i4 almost at right angles to the stage as outfills to co

UK - The sleepy, south coast backwater of Bosham, seems a strange place to want to set up a new mastering house, but delve a little deeper and it is easy to see why it all makes sound business sense. Cut & Groove is ideally located to mine a rich seam of work, the South Coast Club Scene, the phenomenon that has spawned such mega artists as Artful Dodger, Craig David and Fat Boy Slim.

The duo behind this £200,000 venture is Duncan Davis and Adam Twine who have been immersed in the club scene since their teens. Duncan broke into it at 16 when armed with a couple of cases of albums, he bluffed his way into a DJ residency in Ibiza for the summer with no experience apart from in front of his bedroom mirror, while Adam ran a club on the Isle of Wight.

Though Cut & Groove only opened its doors seven months ago, it is already pretty busy. The facility's offer of a competitively price

One desk at FOH and one monitors was dedicated to Robbie while the support bands used the others.
