Turbosound Ltd, the British-based manufacturer of live performance and installed-sound loudspeaker systems, announces the appointment of Dominic Harter as the company's new UK & Eire Sales Manager. Previously with BSS Audio, Dominic brings to the company a wealth of sales and customer-support experience in the sound reinforcement market, with specific emphasis on installed and touring applications.

Dominic is responsible for liaison with existing customers and developing new business throughout Turbosound's home territory. EML has been appointed as exclusive distributor for Crown in the Dutch market, in close cooperation with present distributor Iemke Roos Audio BV. EML NV, recently acquired by the German Audio Export Group, is an important distributor in the Belgium market, representing brands such as JBL, DOD/Digitech and Focusrite. Turbosound reports that leading rental company Britannia Row enjoyed one of its busiest Turbosound days of the year during September, with Flashlight, QLight and TFM monitor systems featuring extensively. On a single hectic September day, Britannia Row deployed Turbosound rigs at four venues across the UK: the Albert Hall for a two-night Morrisey concert, the Langham Hilton for a Natalie Cole BBC broadcast, the Astoria in London as part of Richard Ashcroft's UK Tour, and the Manchester Evening News Arena for James Taylor's European Tour.

Worms - Germany’s oldest city - was the setting recently for a major performance of one of Europe’s most well-known crime thrillers, the Nibelungen tragedy. Performed outdoors in front of the impressive backdrop of Worms cathedral, the show starred Mario Adorf and was directed by Dieter Wedel. The story about murder, revenge and betrayal is inspired by the myth of the Nibelungen. Moritz Rinke, one of the most important theatre writers of this age, has provided the actual text for the city of Worms.

Instigate Media, a newly formed Surrey-based loudspeaker manufacturer and audio rental/installation company, is specifying XTA DP Series digital loudspeaker processors for all of its products, following the use of two XTA DP224s during the R&D process for its Beamwidth Series of touring enclosures. A forthcoming range of loudspeakers will also be specified with DP224s.

Flying Pig Systems announces the first ‘Release’ version of its v1.0 software for the Wholehog III control system after completing its final round of beta testing. This is the first version of software for the state-of-the-art control system that has been given the coveted "show-safe status" by Flying Pig Systems. To reach this point it has gone through extensive testing, both within the company and with the many users who are involved in beta testing the product.

On Friday we received news that Playlight Hire Ltd - the Manchester-based lighting and sound operation - has been placed in administration. This is the latest in a string of high-profile companies to hit problems, joining a list which includes both Futurist Ltd and Lighting Technology Group.

The company, which operates out of headquarters in Manchester, was first established in 1976 by Mike McMullan to provide products and services to the entertainment and presentation industries. Over the years, it had spread its operations across the hire, installation and sale of lighting, audio and drapes, and also involved itself in television commercial production. Aztec, the groundbreaking live performance console from pro-audio specialist Audient has just finished a tour with German group BAP. Aztec was used for the final concert of the 35-date tour, in the Cologne Tanzbrunnen. It impressed the group and PA Company Sirius, so much that it was used again for their performance at the final election party of the SPD/Green party in Berlin, outside the Brandenburg Gate, which attracted a 20,000 strong crowd.

The Electrosonic Group has announced the addition of two companies, Lightinen and Qualitron, to the Group. Lightinen, based in Helsinki, Finland, provides audio-visual and lighting systems to the cruise ship, entertainment and corporate markets. The company employs 35 people and in 2001 the turnover exceeded US$10 million. Risto Oinaala, managing director of Lightinen, will continue the day-to-day management of the business.

Qualitron is a Helsinki-based broadcast systems engineering company serving the broadcast industry in Finland, Russia, Ukraine and other Confederation of Independent States (CIS) countries. The company employs 32 people, including a 12-person office in Moscow, and the emphasis is on the provision of the latest digital broadcasting technology.
